Night Stalker is one of the last beasts from Mattel’s Club Eternia Subscription, and it’s a pretty great way to finish out. Check out some pics and thoughts about Mattel’s Night Stalker after the jump!
You know, I find myself missing the bios with Night Stalker’s release. I remember reading Stridor’s origin, but I’m a little curious about the origin of his evil counterpart, Night Stalker.
The sculpt is pretty fantastic, though I do have some minor complaints. The body has some great curves and lines and the techno details look really nice and sharp. I don’t like the sticker control panel since the sculpted and painted panels looked so cool on the Wind Raider and the Battle Ram.
The only part of the sculpt I don’t love is the neck. The pieces don’t quite flow as nicely together as they do in the prototype. I think it could be because the plastic is a little warped since it’s a softer gauge or the ball joints between the neck panels are a little large. It still looks and moves well; it just doesn’t look as good as the proto.
A new feature for this version of Night Stalker is the helmet. It’s pretty cool and I think once I get used to it, I’ll use it more because I like the extra purple it adds.
The figure fits in there well, almost more like riding a car than a horse if you sit him with his legs out straight.
The articulation is pretty good, but some of the joints are a bit too loose. He has ball joints between each neck piece, a ball joint at the tail, swivels at the guns and hips and hinges at the knee and foot.
The head movement is fantastic, but the hips bum me out because my Night Stalker can’t hold a rearing-up pose without assistance. The legs do pop out of the sockets if you grab the figure by the legs.
The paint is very cool with some metal flake in the gold that shines well when hit by the light. It seems to me that the teeth should be a different color, but that’s a bit of a nitpick.
Overall, nitpicks aside, I’m really pleased with this figure. I really hope we can get a Stridor as well at some point in the future.
