So . . . you may have heard that there is a new Star Wars movie coming out this week. Do you know what goes great with a new Star Wars movie? Some free Star Wars toys! Well, we have partnered with our friends at Entertainment Earth to get you the hook-up on their exclusive Star Wars Black Series Imperial Forces box set. What are you waiting for? Read on to figure how this can be yours, absolutely FREE!
The Force Awakens merchandise push is in full gear, and for us action figure collectors, that is some great news. Hasbro has already released two Black Series waves in support of the movie, and it looks like there is a lot more to come. The exclusives and box sets have been coming as well, and if you are an army-builder collector, this new Imperial Forces set from Entertainment Earth is a set you will want to get your mitts on. The set is diverse in terms what you get, and the reach of the Galactic Empire is shown via this lineup.
Featuring some in-film canonical characters like the Sand Trooper Sergeant, as well as expanded guys like the Crimson Trooper, your Imperial ranks will certainly diversify with this set. Personally, I was not aware of the named character of LT. Oxixo or the Emperor’s droid R2-Q5, but I have taken an instant shine to them due to their backstories. Even the vibrant Crimson Trooper fits right in with the collection you are already building, so if you are going to hold order on Mustafar, you are now set.
So, while this set does not have a lick of new tooling to it, that does not hold over as a weakness. The Imperial forces are all about numbers and ranks, so part of what makes it so impressive is seeing the sheer quantity of troops, all assimilated and uniform. Sure, there are subtle differences here and there, but armies of the Empire are made in the image of the Emperor who, and you will remember even dating back to his days as a senator, promised order and organization.
The set we are giving away is the one you see here in the pictures, so it will not be mint on card, but I did preserve the packaging, and I will be putting all of these figures back in the box to send them out as close as possible as they were when they shipped from the factory. We have all of the details on how to enter the raffle below, but first, let’s take a look at each of the figures in the set.
SAND TROOPER SERGEANT
Of all of the army-builders we have seen thus far in the Black Series, the Sand Trooper is by FAR my favorite. I mean, I think some of the best figures in the line are the army builders, but even in those strengths, the Sand Trooper still stands out. The original Sand Trooper was my first Black Series figure, and later the version with the black pauldron was released, but he been missing this white pauldron version. I had a feeling it was going to be a matter of time, so I am glad we have gotten him now, and he really completes the look of the Tattooine forces. This figure carries all of the strengths of the previous versions, and I am very happy all of the “dirty” paint details have been preserved.
CRIMSON TROOPER
So here is the thing: I have always said that the design of the Stormtrooper armor would look good in ANY color, and it looks like Hasbro is doing their best to prove me 100 percent right. I mean, I have never seen this guy in any movie, but look at him — that red and black is AMAZING. There is nothing new here in terms of sculpt or accessories from the original Trooper, but that simple red color change just looks so fantastic. Plus, the idea of this guy being a trooper that works in a volcanic setting is just perfect, and now he can explore Mustafar and sightsee the spot where Obi-Wan chopped up his boss’s boss’s boss’s boss’s boss’s boss’s boss. I would take an entire rainbow of Stormtroopers.
LIEUTENANT OXIXO
Well, here a bit of backstory that I can really appreciate — we have been given a name for one of the last remaining Imperial TIE fighter pilots who flanked Darth Vader during the Battle of Yavin. Sure, those guys were pretty inconsequential save for being told to stay away from the leader of X-Wing formation, but now we can go deeper. The TIE Pilot sculpt has always been on the best of the Black Series, so this one definitely has that going for him (I LOVE that they are short, just like a flyboy should be), but for being almost solid black, he is still very visually interesting. I appreciate the rank insignia on the helmet and the silver belt buckle, so this guy is prime to boss around any rank and file pilots you might have standing on your shelf.
R2-Q5
Apparently the Emperor mirrored Princess Leia in his penchant for hiding important messages inside of an astromech droid, and it seems as though R2-Q5 was his personal favorite. While R2-D2 has been capturing our hearts for decades, it stands to reason that the Empire was crawling with like droids, and I am sure they were all at the disposal of the Emperor. A perfect counterpoint to R2-D2, this guy foiled a coordinated Rebel attack to turn all the droids against the Empire. The R2 is a simple repaint of the original R2, so it employs all of the features of that figure, so you should be pretty hip to what you are getting. At any rate, the new color scheme looks great — and completely evil.
All of this can be yours if you enter to win our giveaway! The set on the whole has great construction and quality control, so you can be confident in that. Plus, it really helps bolster those Imperial ranks, so the more the merrier. I am a bit surprised by how much I enjoy this set, and I am likely on the hook for a couple of them.
