Hasbro: Marvel Legends Hulkbuster Series Thundra

Hasbro Marvel Legends Hulkbuster Series Thundra featured

Thundra is one of the last female figures that we will more than likely see in 2015 from Hasbro’s Marvel Legends. Part of the Hulkbuster Build A Figure series, she is companion to another classic female that will be reviewed tomorrow: Valkyrie.

Thundra is another classic character that many collectors wanted for some time. She is a classic, strong female character that saw her birth in the early ’70s. My earliest exposure to her was in Marvel Two-in-One and I’ve had a crush on her every since. She’s been portrayed as a fighter, getting into brawls with Hulk and Thing, both of whom she had intense affairs with. Yes, she likes her men big and monstrous. Her alternate timeline daughter with the Hulk, Lyra, is currently walking around the Marvel Universe. Actually, she’s stuck in a pocket dimension. Or, rather, she was while Doc Green was being betrayed by his artificial intelligent Bruce Wayne program. Or something like that. I’ll be honest, I don’t know what is currently going on with Thundra, but whenever I need a good Thundra read I head back to the ’70s. Thundra’s been around the Marvel Universe for a long time and has been a bit player, so it’s great to see her getting some time in the spotlight as a Marvel Legend!

The core figure is based on the Red She-Hulk figure that was released in the Hit Monkey Series. VeeBee did a great write-up and there isn’t much to add. Thundra has a different chest, more than likely the one planned for Lyra, and has some new forearms. Her biceps look like the original Red She-Hulk ones, and if memory serves, that figure received some grief for having “T-Rex” arms; her arms look short compared to the rest of her body. I’m not certain how big an issue that is on this figure, but I’m certain there is a collector or two who are not impressed with her arms. She does have a belt and unique head sculpt. The belt is not glued on and flops about, nonetheless a great-looking belt. And I love the head sculpt. It’s smoking hot and looks like it jumped straight out of the comics, with fantastic hair sculpting and a great face sculpt. Even with the parted grinding-tooth mouth she’s got a rocking look to her.

The articulation is pretty much what you can expect from the Red She-Hulk figure. It’s got a lot of great movement, but she is hindered by those hips. Well, not so much hindered, as you can achieve a lot of good poses with the hips, but they are a monumental pain in the ass to pose. I get that Hasbro is doing it’s best to get the most mileage possible out of the tools made for this figure, but it would have been an ideal opportunity to upgrade the hips to match the new ball-and-sockets being used on current female figures. The ankles are solid, but the ratchet joints make it somewhat challenging to work with them. Here’s the breakdown:

Rocker ankles
Hinged ankles
Double-hinged knees
Swivel thighs
Ball hips
Ball Chest
Ball shoulders
Swivel biceps
Swivel elbow
Hinged elbow
Swivel wrist
Hinged wrist
Ball head

Thundra gots some accessories. Well, one beside the Build A Figure arm. She’s got a ball and chain that she’s looking to swing around. Maybe at Hulk’s head to make him hers. Or something like that. She doesn’t need a lot of accessories as she’s super strong.

Thundra is a great figure, despite the hips, and I’ve had a lot of fun posing and playing her over the last few days. And, yes, I know how wrong that sounds. I’m certain Woody is giving me the face … I highly recommend picking up Thundra as she is a great fit into any modern or classic Marvel Legends collection. You can pick her up at:

  1. Methinks her arms are just a tiny tad too short. Not seeing the hair thing you see.
Hairlines can be adjusted with the styling of hairdos.
However,we agree on liking her, capt! (Maybe not as much as Pablo–lol)-but likes all around still the same.?
    Shalom.

  2. I like her, the only issue I have with her is the hair is set too low on the forehead.

  3. I’m surprised you’re harping so much on the hips when that massive head of rock-solid hair makes that neck balljoint completely useless.
