YES! It’s almost August, which means the Bandai Star Wars model kit Sandtrooper is nearing release. Sure, it’s probably towards the end of the month, but it’s closer. And Boba Fett is coming sooner than I expected!
Bandai has released promo images and info on the Sandtrooper model and it’s looking pretty sweet.
What catches my eye first is the brow, which seems a little low compared to movie references. Also, I have a buddy putting together a suit of Stormtrooper armor and the brow is what jumps out at me there. It’s accurate but I feel the lower brow just looks cooler. So I’m personally good with this but that’s a personal preference that goes against all movie accuracy.
Here’s the model Sandtroopers…
And here’s the Sandtroopers from the movies..
The other big thing is how clean the models are but that was expected. Paint brush, do your thing!
The kit also comes with different pauldron options. Orange, black, and white. It’s probably decals.
Looking at pics from shows, I guessed that the backpack had different configurations, and that seems to be true. The model does come in pieces so this is an easy but brilliant solution to having multiple figures look different. You also have the choice of using or not using the shoulder pouches.
The weapons are reuse except for the large rifle.
The base takes a page from the Biker Scout with Speeder Bike kit, where it represents the environment the character is known for. Faux sand. It’s pretty much the right color so it won’t need much paint, if any at all.
Finally, as usual, the kit comes with several sets of hands. Two triggers, two splayed, and a set with a right fist and pointing left.
The Bandai site also confirms the release of the Star Wars model kit Boba Fett.
And best of all, it’s due out in September! Pre-orders should be dropping soon. But with Boba Fett confirmed, what could the next kit be? He finishes off what I expected for the line, mostly armored characters. IG-88? Tusken Raider? Royal Guard? I need to know NOW!
