I love it when a company shows off unpainted figures and the inner workings of their action figures! Bandai posted pictures of their upcoming Kinnikuman action figure without paint and “exploded,” reminding me of how much engineering goes into making an action figure. It’s not just about sitting with a piece of wax or Zbrush and “pushing” clay, it’s about making all the parts work and function together, keeping the aesthetic and then working with a factory ensuring that each and every part retains the sculpt and functionality. It’s a reminder that I take the designing of toy for granted.
