Hasbro – Marvel Legends SDCC 2014 Thanos Imperative Box Set Medusa

“Gimme a head with hair, long, beautiful — wait — I already did that lame lead-in.

Can you believe, after all of this time, we finally have a Medusa figure? As a staunch Inhumans fan, I have been waiting for this for a very long time. Black Bolt has been hanging around my Marvel Legends shelf for such a long time without his lady love, and now he can have the most important person in the universe to him at his side, just so he cannot talk to her, either.

I kid, but really, I am over the moon (you know, where the Inhumans live?) that the SDCC 2014 exclusive Thanos Imperative box set got us a great reboot of Black Bolt (reviewed HERE), and, for the first time, this first lady of the Inhumans. Way back in the ToyBiz days when we would do our wishlists on the forums (before they got so ubiquitous), I would have all of the members of the Royal Family on my top ten list. Sadly, even to this day most of them remain outstanding, but damn it feels good to cross off Medusa.

The “we finally got her” sigh of relief comes from a classic Inhumans fan, even. Her modern costume is a nice homage to her iconic look, so I am pretty darned happy with the overall aesthetic of the figure. If I could change anything in terms of costuming, I suppose I would like to have her domino mask of yore, but there is no way I am going to raise a stink over that one. The pink and purple are definitely consistent with the original look, and the shiny paint looks good on the body used for her, which is completely appropriate. It does not use all of the parts of the more muscular Moonstone body, so Medusa is imposing, but still quite feminine. Hasbro and Gentle Giant have been doing a great job revamping their female forms, and I think they have the best frame currently on the mass market.

Medusa’s signature feature is, of course, her “living” hair that she uses for offensive and defensive purposes, and I really like the form and sculpt of it on this figure. It is appropriately long, and it has a bit of life to it without looking too ’90s wind-swept. She can stand reasonably well for being so top-heavy, but you might have to finagle with the posing just a bit to get her to stand in some positions. Now, I know there is a contingent out there that would have liked her to have a bit of articulation to her, much like the Masters of the Universe Classics Entrapta, but I am fine with it the way that it is.

Her articulation breakdown is as follows and clocks in at about 25 points:

  • Ball head
  • Hinge neck
  • Partial ball shoulders (x2)
  • “Elbros” (x2)
  • Twist wrists (x2)
  • Hinge hands (x2)
  • Ball torso
  • Partial ball hips (x2)
  • Twist thighs (x2)
  • Double knees (x2)
  • Rocker ankles (x2)

Medusa! Medusa, my love — I am so glad to add you to my ML shelf after all of these years. I know it is scary getting unique characters in a show exclusive set, but I would encourage any Inhumans fan to try to acquire this figure; it is just very satisfying to finally be building that team. You know I want the rest, but I hope that Crystal’s importance to the Marvel universe and Gorgon’s awesome look will help bring them close to the top of the pile in terms of possible Legends slots.
