Naruto is the uber-popular manga/anime that started in 1997 and is ongoing today. The main character is Naruto, who is a firecracker of a ninja and is always getting into trouble, either of his own doing or because some other ninja baddie wants to kill him. Bandai’s S.H. Figuarts action figure is based on Naruto in the Shippuden era, which is about three years after the initial Naruto series.
This figure was first teased a few years ago and it’s great to see it getting released. It’s an awesome toy and another great sculpt coming from Bandai. Between Bandai and Figma, I’m not certain who is cranking out the better action figures. Like Luffy, this is the perfect action figure rendition of the character. Out of the box, there is no question that this is Naruto, and each extra face is a perfect representation of Naruto. The only gripe that I have is the bagginess of the sweatshirt makes it look like he’s got a muffin top. It’s not a big deal, but it does look odd for young lad.
The articulation is just spot-on and can achieve just about any pose you can think of. The forward movement of the legs allows him to sit without limitation. The one area of articulation that’s off for me is the shoulder, or the “rocker” part of the shoulder. There is a piece of loose plastic that sits on top of the shoulder joint that is meant to look like part of the sweatshirt. This doesn’t seem to work fluidly with the shoulder movement, and it’s difficult getting that “shoulders back” look right. The articulation breakdown is as follows:
ball toes
hinged feet
ball ankles
hinged ankles
double knees
swivel thigh
hinged crotch
ball hips
ball waist
ball abs
double ball neck
hinged jaw
moveable inner mouth
double ball shoulders
swivel bicep
double-hinged elbows
swivel forearm
swivel wrist
ball wrist
swivel hand
ball hand
There are a number of faces, hands, kunai, a butt pouch, and a chi ball for you to interchange and play with. The straps on the headband are also packaged separately. There is plenty of fun to be had with this figure, and he plays well with other action figure lines…
