I was scooting around Google earlier and ran across a few pictures of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Michelangelo and Raphael loose. Even though I am hesitant to pick any of these up I’ve been curious about size and articulation. While these shots don’t do much to alleviate my concerns or tempt me to go full bore, they are interesting. Maybe interesting is too strong a word. Perhaps “telling” is a better choice.
I’m going to guess that the head is on a ball joint but the rest of the points are obvious. Swivel hinges in the shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees. The exact articulation set-up as the Nick Turtles. Which is odd because I’m completely good with that scheme on the cartoon style Turtles. Is it because of the source? I mean, this is a supposedly huge movie coming, wouldn’t you amp up the toys? We’re getting super articulated figures of the old TMNT movie but this is what we get for a new movie that is about to be up in everyone’s faces?
As far as size goes, they are 5 inches. Slightly larger than the Nick Turtles.
Now, given the scale of Raph to the Nick TMNT figures above, watch the trailer again to get an idea of size.

Notice Raph’s size compared to the Humvee he crashes into. Then the way April has to look up at Mikey at the end. And while this doesn’t give us any idea of scale between the figures…
…April is going to have to clock in at about 3 1/2 inches in order to look right. Human characters at 4 to 4 1/2 inches. Weird that Playmates would make a promotional image where April is the largest image on the page. Unless, you know, they are playing to the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles- Starring Megan Fox!” hype.
All in all, the more I see of these, the more I feel this line is the equivalent of Monday morning when it comes to my toy interests. Okay, that’s a bit dramatic. I don’t dread these like I do Monday mornings as I can choose to just ignore them. Unlike Monday mornings.
