Last week I took a look at the Kaiju Ultra Deluxe figures from series 3, so today I will be looking at the two Jaegers from the normal series 3 release. I am not going to go into what Pacific Rim is about again in this review, so you should really go read last week’s review for more background info if you need it.The first figure of this series is none other then the great Russian Cherno Alpha. Cherno is a Mark 1 Jaeger and was one of the main featured mechs in the final part of the movie. He stands roughly 8 inches and has over 20 points of articulation. According to NECA, both Jaegers are created from the actual digital files utilized by ILM in the creation of the movie.
His “head” does not really look like a head per se, but it gives him a very nuclear industrial look, which I happen to love.I love all the added paint details all over the figure. Also, the paint job really gives him that battle worn and weathered look.
Normally I am not an articulation junkie, but I did feel like most people in that the first few Jaegers from NECA were lacking in some key points of articulation. There was a reason for this design choice in the first few series, but luckily that is in the past, and the future looks great for these guys. The only articulation I feel is lacking now on Cherno is a bicep twist, but it is by no means a deal breaker. You can see from these few pictures that Cherno can really get down.
His forearms and hands have a few extra points of articulation that really add to the figure. First, we have his forearm that extends with piston power to deliver some deadly blows. Also, his hands can be open or closed for punching.
The next figure is the Japanese Jaeger Coyote Tango. This guy only appeared in a memory of Mako, the new Jaeger pilot of Gipsy Danger. He is also a Mark 1 Jaeger and comes in just under 8 inches tall. Coyote features more than 20 points of articulation for great battle poses.
The head on this guy is a much more “classic” mech head. It almost looks like it could be a helmet on a solider.Again, NECA does not disappoint with the paint and decals on Coyote. Everywhere you look you can see dirt and grime from battle.
Coyote includes two mortar cannons attached to his back. They are attached to a rear mounted “track” that can be used to move the cannons up to his shoulders and ready for battle.
Now that we have all five Jaegers featured in the movie, they look amazing standing together, so one might think NECA is done with Jaegers. Well, that person could not be further from the truth. NECA plans to dig deep into concept art and anywhere else they can to bring us more Jaegers. We do know that Gipsy Danger 2.0 is coming, but other than that, the sky’s the limit.I have had a blast reviewing these last four Pacific Rim figures and cannot wait to add more to my toy shelves. If for whatever reason you are not collecting this line, you are really missing out on one of the best action figure lines in the past few years. And we just found out NECA is releasing two of the older Jaegers! So there is time to catch up. They are affordable, full of detail, and look great displayed together. Go buy some!
