Fwoosh Happy Hour- Guardians of the Galaxy, DC Collectibles Orion, and Marvel Legends Infinite!

This is a quickie because it’s New Years and everyone should be out there celebrating! A new year, new toys, Toy Fair right around the corner. There is a lot to look forward to in 2014! I haven’t even thought about resolutions. If I were name one it would be…to spend less money on toys. Yeah, this is the year I slow down and start taking myself seriously as a responsible adult. Maybe I’ll start gardening. Or a nice stamp collection. To hell with all that, my resolution is to spend MORE money on toys! That one I know I can keep! Belly up, it’s the last Happy Hour of the year!

Marvel released the first official promo picture of Guardians of the Galaxy today!

gotg-bitWe saw a grainy partial pic of this after last year’s SDCC so it’s great to get a better look. I’ve said it before, this may be the movie I’m looking forward to most next year. Here’s the official info:

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team–the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power fo the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is presented by Marvel Studios. The film releases August 1, 2014, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture

Like I said above, we’ve already seen this pic so we know it’s old. Well, apparently James Gunn has done some tweaks to Rocket since then.

“Thanks, guys. I had no idea they were putting this out as the image (although I had read over the press release a number of times, trying to eliminate spoilers!) This was an image we put together in a couple weeks just for Comicon. I have worked a lot on Rocket since this time, so in the final movie he will look a little different.”

Can’t. Wait.

I also can’t wait for the toys. We already have a little preview of Star-Lord in the form of the new A.I.M. Soldier that’s hitting now. We first saw the digital sculpt at SDCC and now we have a plastic representation in our hands. I love the A.I.M. grunt but it has me itching for Quill.

DC has posted the newest episode of DC All Access and it give a slight preview of DC Collectibles Orion!

Jump to about 6:50 to see Jim Fletcher pull the figure from his zebra striped hat. Yeah, you read that right. Zebra striped hat.

Okay, I know I said Marvel Legends Infinite, and I do have a slight bit of news, but if you scrolled directly down here for a mind-blowing picture or world shattering news, I apologize. But you’ll be happy to know we now have another outlet besides online and Target to hunt. Seems Toys R Us is now stocking both the Captain America and Spider-Man Legends Infinite lines. They are higher than Target (big surprise!) but what’s odd is that the Captain America wave is $17.50 while the Spidey wave is $22.99. TRU, you so cray.

In a related but wholly unimportant to the rest of the toy news world note, I am enjoying the bejeezus out of Superior Spider-Man.

Superior Spider-Man

He held himself balanced with only the grippy hand holding the base for about fifteen minutes before toppling over. Amazing.

And then there’s this…

fwooshlogoPart of New Years tradition is to look back over the past year and ponder on all the good things that happened. I may have pondered back too far. Old timers will remember this logo. Good times, with hopefully more to come. Happy New Years everybody! Happy Hour’s over!
