Ask Matty – 4/15/10

It’s the 15th so time for your mid-month Matty fix!

1. According to She-Ra’s bio, a group of he allies travel to Eternia in pursuit of Hordak after he abandons Etheria. Does this mean that only a select few PoP characters will make it into the MOTUC line or is this just a part of the history and all the PoP characters will have their time in figure form?

Whether or not a particular POP character follows She-Ra to Eternia has no effect on whether they will be a figure in MOTUC. A POP character’s bio could just as well tell the story of what they did on Etheria before She-Ra left. After all, the bios have already established that there was a long war between the Great Rebellion and the Horde on Etheria that involved many POP characters!

2. Do you have a date for when DCUC 13 will be available on Matty Collector?

Not yet since right now that is up in the air. The response to Wave 11 and Wave 12 on Mattycollector.com was very minimal and we are reviewing whether or not the box sets will continue. We can only sell items on Mattycollector.com if there is enough fan support.

3. Do you think a truly giant character like the Anti-Monitor would be acceptable as a regular C&C in the DCUC line or do you think there is a possible better way to release him (not many people got the giant DCIH version)?

We could certainly do the Anti-Monitor in the DCUC line, but due to package size the limit would be about 12-inches.

4. Quite awhile ago you said that some civilian characters were in the works for DCUC. What is the status on that? Sometime this year? Jim Gordon is the most current obvious hole in the Bat-Family display.

We do have plans to get to civilian characters and Gordon is at the top of our wish list. It is just a matter of finding the right time.

5. Will you be announcing any new properties at SDCC this year?

We do have some big announcements to make, but what they are is still under wraps!

  1. I do look forward to Commissioner Gordon, Alfred Pennyworth and maybe a Lois Lane. Perhaps even the GCPD as a DC army builder. And who else can’t wait for Plastic Man?

So the DCUC Metallo Series is being re-released as a set only on mattycollector. Eh. If I still need Riddler and Atom I have to take out a second mortgage to buy 4 characters I couldn’t give 2 *expletive*s about. Amazo will look great in my firepit.

Any chance we’ll see Grodd, Grundy, Metamorpho and maybe Giganta released complete and in their own package? Giganta = want. Gentleman Ghost = not paying $150 for. Savvy?

  2. totally poor planning/marketing on the DCUC box sets. we cried for em to be offered in the first place was because Mattel’s retail distribution was so irregular…So then they go and offer these sets after they increase store availability?! HORSESHIT!

  3. I would love to buy DCUC sets on mattycollector.com as i almost never see new figures in stores. However a set to me is the full slate of 9 (all variants in the wave). You’d think a “collector” site would appreciate that.

Plus honestly, the ordering system on matty is so crappy the day items go on sale it’s practically unusable.

  4. I interpret that a lot differently.

since DCUC is available at retail first, I think what this means is that collectors are able to find what they want in this channel. so, by the time it’s available onlne, collectors don’t need to buy the sets on MattyCollector.com.

so, I think this is more about how well DCUC is doing at retail vs. how badly it’s doing on MattyCollector.

  5. 2. Do you have a date for when DCUC 13 will be available on Matty Collector?

That’s kind of sad actually. I can only assume that at retail DCUC is selling a TON better than at mattyC.com, but that’s pretty hard to believe if Mattel is considering to not continue selling them on their own site.

How are retailers supposed to feel confident selling product that even Mattel won’t carry on their own site? :/
