Okay, you know what I usually say about the Variant Play Arts Kai figures. Interesting concepts but most of the time a little wacky. Well, guess what character fits the wacky concept better than most. That’s right, Deadpool. C’mon, Square Enix, play fair.
I just can’t pass on a Deadpool. It’s coded into my DNA, gotta buy all Wades. Super realistic (Hot Toys), super stylized (Amazing Yamaguchi), or comic accurate (Marvel Legends), I grab them. And those are just from this year, two of them this within the past month. With another movie coming it’s only going to get worse. So perfect time for Square Enix to roll out one of their damn expensive trademark who-knows-what-the-scale-is-going-to-be reimagined action figures.
This figure follows all of the guidelines set by past Variant Play Arts Kai figures. Armor it up, distort the proportions slightly, give it a lot of sharp points and hard edges, but make sure the character’s color scheme and basic costume beats are incorporated. Unlike most of the past figures you can actually imagine Deadpool wearing something like this. For no reason. Middle of a comic, walks out wearing this, five panels later he’s in a Marvel Girl costume. Wacky. Wade.
The figure includes a stand, two heads, eleven hands, and seven weapons. Impressive.
To top it off, it includes personality. Or maybe I’m just projecting that trait upon the figure. But in my head I can just hear him telling me to push the pre-order button while looking at the below pic. I’m either crazy or, well, who knows where I was going to go with that sentence. I hear the pic talking to me. Not much else to say.
Variant Play Arts Kai will release March 2017 and will run you a whopping $105.
Only 100?!? That’s pretty cheap considering ply arts kai raise the price every other day!!
