Medicom: MAFEX Star Wars Rogue One Darth Vader

I can only guess that Medicom saw a lot of success with their first MAFEX Darth Vader. Well made, nice look, doesn’t fall apart easily. So I can’t blame them for going back to that well two more times. Well, now three times. It’s looks like they are about to solicit a Vader from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. And I’m okay with that.

Especially when it looks this good.

The first MAFEX Darth Vader has it’s ups and downs. Not a bad thing at all. In fact, a lot of people use it as their main Vader. Mine flips between it and the model kit any given week.

Then Medicom released a translucent blue version as a Wonder Festival exclusive.

This version is apparently seeing a general release in December with a 4500 yen price tag. Can’t blame a company for capitalizing on the movie release.

And then there’s the upcoming Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith Vader. It is mostly reuse of the first version.

And finally, the pic of the Rogue One version that is now floating around.

It looks to be an all new sculpt. The biggest differences to be seen is the head being a new sculpt and bigger, the chest box being higher, and the crotch cover being padded. But little things like the gloves being ribbed different and the lightsaber being hung from a clip instead of straight into the belt. It looks to follow the same rubbery inner skirt/cloth cape with wire scheme though.

All in all, it looks awesome. So don’t let me down in the QC department, Medicom. This Vader looks like it will toe to toe with the rest for shelf supremacy.

It’s due August 2017 (ugh) and will cost around $50.
