This is a figure I've wanted for years, and I've always been wary of price and seemingly indeterminable authenticity. But, as I approach my fortieth birthday, I'm thinking I deserve something nice. I can't afford a vacation or a car or anything major, so I'm thinking of treating myself to this.
Problem is, I can't for the life of me figure out how to determine the authenticity of these things. There are a number of them on ebay right now, and they're all 200+ which would SEEM like an authentic pricepoint. And yet, I've heard of people spending more than that for this figure and still getting bootlegs.
Is there an safe way to figure out which of these are legit and which aren't? 300 bucks for a figure is definitely pricey, but I'm willing to spend that as long as I'm actually getting the real deal.
Alternatively, any news on other MGS figures dropping in the future that might make this one obsolete?
I just took mine off the shelf yesterday to pose around and admire on my coffee table. He’s honestly one of the best figures I own.
In my experience of buying import figures, I feel like in general, if they’re expensive and coming from Japan, you’re good. I’d probably avoid anything from China and be somewhat wary of stuff from the US. If the price sounds too good to be true, it is.
Unfortunately, nothing new on the MGS product front. I’ve been wanting a Figma Simon Belmont for years, but apparently Konami is a bitch to deal with as a licensor. And I’m not sure if MGS stuff is even more complicated with the fall out between them and Kojima.
Yeah I made a authenticity guide photo for myself a couple months ago for the figma Snake. Still haven't bought him yet, but I can upload the photo if you want (just not sure how to upload photos in here).
If you're willing to be patient, you could keep an eye out for Snake on Mandarake. They're a used goods shop that ships straight from Japan and I've never gotten a knock-off from them. Everything is usually in great shape too.
@themostshyguy I'd be interested too but nbd. mostly replying just to recommend using postimages.org, and copy the second link, the one that says Direct Link and post it here, should post the image.
