There'll hopefully be more than these to talk about in the future, but for now I figured the recently revealed listings would be a good starting point for talking about the 40th anniversary.

Anyways, I have no real idea who to expect to see from these listings. Given the retro moniker I'm assuming they'll be more G1 reissues/repaints. I'd love to see one of them turn out to be Soundwave. Then again, I've been feeling some nostalgia for cassette tapes recently, and I do regret not getting one of the previous reissues Hasbro did for him, so I might be a tad biased there, lol.

There have been a handful of Generation One reissues, in their "original" packaging. Optimus, Starscream, Soundwave, Rumble, Ravage, Frenzy, Laserbeak, Blaster, Astrotrain, Hot Rod, Devastator, mini cars Bumblebee, Warpath, Gears, Swerve, Tailgate. I may have missed some. TFTM has been giving us the anime repaints with Starscream, Thundercracker, Hot Rod, Hound, and the upcoming Kickback, Perceptor. I'm not sure what's on the list of lost/broken molds, but I would really love to see reissues of Jazz, Mirage, Wheeljack, Sunstreaker, Grimlock and any Dinobots they're willing to give us, Shockwave, Metroplex, Blitzwing, the Coneheads.

I have Optimus, Hot Rod, Starscream and Soundwave from the retro line that started in 2018 I think.  And some of the minibots. Haven't bought the movie-specific line that appeared recently, but am tempted.  I'm looking more seriously at any retro releases now that Missing Link is a thing.  Those Optimus' are the toys I didn't know I needed.  I expect more over time and it might raise my interest or need for the other classics.

I really hope those 40th retro figures are more G1 reissues in vintage boxes.  Hopefully it's nothing we got with the recent reissues, but I feel like that's what we will get.  Maybe Perceptor and Hound since we know they did them in the movie line.  I'd happily get both of them in G1 boxes.  Is Megatron even a possibility if they put an orange plug?  That's my most wanted figure right now.

Looks like two of these have been revealed. They're Soundwave and Blaster:

Blaster is an easy pass for me, but I'll definitely be getting this Soundwave. The lack of chrome will be a dealbreaker for some, but it doesn't bother me. The retro packaging is cool, and I like the addition of the 40th anniversary logo. Won't stop me from opening him, but it means I'll find a way to store the packaging nicely. It's interesting that Soundwave comes with both Laserbeak and Ravage, while Blaster only has Steeljaw. Don't know if they will, but I kind of hope they also put out a 2-pack with reissues of Frenzy and Rumble.

So are these like the releases of the Seekers, Insecticons, Hound, and Hot Rod, related to the movie with anime color schemes? The differences between these releases and the retro reissues are hard for me to see.

They're not marketed as such, but given the lack of chrome and how they're colored much more like the G1 animation, they do seem like they're meant to fit in with the movie repaints they've been releasing. Also fits with them being Walmart exclusives.

Something I forgot to mention in my previous post, is that these are each apparently set at $45 for their msrp. Definitely cheaper than I was expecting for a modern reissue of Soundwave.

I think it was clarified in a post I saw from one of the TF webpages, that yes, this IS a continuation of the anime color repaints on the G1 molds. So I guess that means I'M IN. more stuff to spend money on!

Makes sense. Don't know if they've been a huge hit, but I guess this means they've been selling well enough to continue. It'll be interesting to see how far they go with these repaints. I don't expect them to, but with the advancements in tech, I would love to see them finally bring back some of the lost G1 molds, like the Dinobots. That said, I'm just happy enough to see a new release of G1 Soundwave and for a reasonable price. Makes me regret missing out on that TRU exclusive they released years ago a lot less now, lol.

I had caved and bought the retro reissue of Blaster, so I'm definitely interested in grabbing this new Soundwave reissue.

There's no way I'm not buying Soundwave again even though I have way too many versions of that mold.  It looks like the weird blue on his chest is from a cassette since it doesn't show in the package.  Hopefully that's the case, because it looks awful.

I received this Blaster and Soundwave. Both are handsome figures, and I'm happy to add to this cartoon aesthetic line. I'd love to see more of the "new" line up, like Kup, Blurr, Springer. I have my original Targetmaster Blurr and second hand copies of Kup and Springer, but would love to get my hands on fresh, complete versions with all their original accessories.

I guess this is the closest thread for missing link discussion? Anybody else picked up the prime? Absolutely wonderous. Maybe my favourite toy?! The upcoming arcee blows my mind, too.

Don’t know if this counts as a 40th anniversary figure or a G1 reissue, but Walmart is shipping the Optimus Prime in anime colors already. It wasn’t even available for PO.

So, are Blaster and Soundwave the only 2 they've done so far in this 40th offering at Wal-Mart for the G1 characters?

And is their retail price $45?
