I can't remember, was there a race of Monkey men that could potentially be army built, like the Lizard men that Slythe comes from? Otherwise, yeah, this case pack or whatever is resulting in so many Monkians on the pegs is a big mistake.

@normdapito I'll be hitting Target after work/gym...If they still have a Lion-O, I will happily pick one up for you.

Just let me know!

@andru I very much appreciate the offer, but I've been trying to find it in person so I can judge for myself whether or not this is worth the purchase. I also don't want to compound its price with a shipping reimbursement!

Then of course there is the problem of not evenly packing cases.

Yes Lion-O will easily out sell Monkian, but then if you say double the Lion-O numbers in a case.  So 2-1 Lion-O/Monkian, then all of a sudden people (collectors) start thinking that Monkian is "rare" and complain that he is short packed.

Kind of a damned it you do, damned if you don't situation.

I disagree, if Monkian is genuinely less desired by 2:1 say, then even if some collectors might complain that Monkian is ''rare'', the ones that want him would all have one, and the ones that don't want one, wouldn't have one, so demand would still be filled and everyone would ultimately be happy, therefore why would anyone actually even complain?

There would only be complaints if demand wasn't filled, but if packing the cases in a 2:1 format, correctly fills demand, there wouldn't really be any complaints as everyone that wants a copy of each figure, manages to get one as Lion-O would be twice as popular say.

So I don't think that that can be the real reason that they produced so many Monkians, (to protect themselves from hypothetical complaints about rarity); it is more likely due to factory MOQ etc.

So, to answer the question posed in your first sentence -  this is taken from the the Thundercats wiki at Thundercatsfandom.com:

"Monkeys, or Monkians, are one of the major sapient races on Third Earth. Like many of the other animal races, they arrived on the planet thousands of years ago after escaping enslavement from Mumm-Ra and they are currently at risk of falling into his clutches once more."

So, you can certainly army build them credibly if you so choose (which I do)

I look forward to seeing how you differentiate them. And let me know if you need some. That Target by me still has six on the pegs.

Thanks for the offer -  going to see if they turn up plentiful around here.    It will be interesting to see if that is an item Target sends to clearance or if Super7 takes them back instead.

Been a loooooooong time since I've been on these boards but I got Deluxe Lion-O today so I needed a place to share my thoughts on him.

Let's start with the bad to get it out of the way:

- The shoulder and hip joints were insanely stuck. Like, really really stuck. Almost to the point where I was longing for the loose Super7 joint days. Using a hairdryer did nothing so I used hot water which did eventually loosen things up but goddamn... I'm normally not someone who starts whining about "we shouldn't have to do this to our figures" but yeah...

- The sword is absolute garbage. It's probably the first Super7 sword of omens that I got that didn't have any warping but the plastic is so cheap that you can see light shining through. Not a big deal since I have a better one that I can give him

- I think is funny how Brian Flynn is always like "yeah, no... no double joints. Because of aesthetics. We really care about aesthetics". Then you see those ugly ass knee and elbow flaps and you think "yeah, that's real aesthetically pleasing". Again, not a huge deal but a well executed double knee or elbow joint can be much more appealing while giving you more range

- I do think he's a bit too pale but I'm not that bothered by it. There are definitely reference images where the skin tone is very close to what we got here. I do think the hair is a bit too bright so i'll probably repaint that.

- My biggest issue is the face, the eyes to be more precise. He's definitely cross-eyed with the pupils being too far to the sides. makes him look more like Derp-O than Lion-O

That's it for the negatives, on to the positives:

- The sculpt and proportions are so much better in my opinion. The slimmer legs, slimmer torso, the cut for the ab crunch...

- Speaking about ab crunch... the articulation is definitely an improvement. Love the ball joint in both the waist and at the chest, gives you so much more posing options. It's also nice that you can bring the arms completely down to the side now

- Paint (other than the eyes) and finish looks really good, nice matte finish and I do like the colors on his outfit a lot more

- I like the smaller claw shield a lot more, paint on it is also fantastic

That's pretty much it, sorry for the wall of text. All in all I am very happy with him and I do think this is the best looking Lion-O figure to date (which is gonna be completely subjective). I do still think these are overpriced, especially when you look at other toy companies that give you better sculpt, paint, articulation and more accessories for less money. Throwing in the alternate head that will come with the light up eyes version and maybe 2 fist hands would sweeten the deal (but that might bring it to close to an Ultimates figure).

I will be repainting the eyes, can post pics of the results if anyone is interested.

What the heck! I just saw that Target had canceled my preorder for Lion-o. Originally when they just shipped me Monkian they just had Lion-o delayed. I would have never bought Monkian if I knew I wouldn’t be able to buy Lion-o. Also why let me preorder it if you cannot fulfill it. I am not a fan of Target.

Finally found a Deluxe Monkian on the pegs at Target (though not at my local store) so, I've got the two I wanted for now.    If I get some coupons or if Target puts it on sale I may pick up a couple more.

got lucky and found a lone lion-o at target this morning, i used the 25% off coupon along with circle reward cash and got him for $20 bucks.

seeing some reviews and reading some of the post here i see how this guy is not worth $35 so im glad i got him for $20.

this is my first S7 figure, didn't get the mattel version so happy i got it but this is very basic figure and not a deluxe.

the joints on mines are stuck but i haven't put him in hot water yet, and would have liked a small sword of omens.

overall not a bad figure but needs work, i do hope if these two work out we can see the rest of the team done in this "redo" style.

I put in a PO at BBTS for Lion-O. Hate having to do it blind, but there’s no sign of restocking at my Targets, and I’ve been checking regularly.

Shoot....  Saw that the Ultimates Toy Version of Monkian was on sale at BBTS for $32.99 which is cheaper than the Deluxe Monkian at Target -  so went ahead and pulled the trigger on that for another custom ape fodder piece.

Was tempted to grab a Lynx-O at his discounted $35 price.   But put a pin in it for now.
