Am I being too negative or does Wingnut not look so good anymore?

His proportions are so weird with the larger head and the angle is making it hard to get a good feel for the figure, but it doesn’t seem too bad to me. Definitely need to see more of him though.

@nilocomic I believe those are test shots. Farther along than prototype.

Not giving them a pass. Just saying.

Oops, my bad.

@nilocomic Thanks for posting these. Finally a slow drip of some new product.

Wingnut's head is looking pretty big compared to the body, but maybe it's just the angle of the photo? He looks great, and there's something about the brown used for the body and the claws that just go so well together. I dunno, it just stood out to me, along with all the accessories.

Scumbug? Looks great, but when you put him next to Wingnut and Screwloose...what are we paying extra for? Some slightly more difficult to paint swirly eye paint? I'm not seeing the extra value, especially because he seems like normal scale for the line, or even smaller.

Big gorilla is looking like a big gorilla. Glad that my preorder from zaavi got cancelled as I really don't need him taking up a ton of space on the shelf, and needing his own bin to store his accessories.

And it looks like Ghengis's eyes are less stoned looking than the promo pictures?

Triceraton looks great, Splinter having pupils on one of the flocked heads makes him 10% more enticing, but I'm not still not buying the same figure I already have because he's flocked, and Zak is actually looking like I might pick him up, he's just pure 90s.

I'm still salty about robot bebop and rocksteady taking up true vintage character slots that could have went to more desired figures.

That Gorilla figure is absolutely enormous, I'll definitely give them credit there. IF that figure turned out to be free of QC issues, it would 100% prove to be worth the asking price.

I'm gonna laugh if Punker Don shows up with the continuing saga of shitty joints, because the test shot on display certainly seems to imply that even Super7 can't get the figure to stand up straight.

@detrimental-fig I think the brown is darker than on the renders.  It's like a reverse of Ultimates Ace Duck where the brown was lightened on the final figure.

The gorilla certainly looks promising. I’m skeptical they’ll stick the landing. I don’t know if it’s the lighting there or what, but I’m not digging the colors on Wingnut and Scumbug. I’m a little surprised the Triceraton isn’t bigger given how big some of the others are. At least that wave exists though after being delayed for so long.

I am very excited for the Triceraton, and seeing all the test shots and closer-to-finished-products is a nice bit of salve on all the waiting.  Sort of.  I will say, looking at Scumbug, he's showing some of that frustrating Super7 shiny-smoothness to the body and arms. Which makes him feel more cheap looking to me, which is definitely not jiving with that price.

As upset as I've been with their quality & prices, I definitely like how those look. I was even wanting an extra Screwloose to put in my NECA Toon display until reminding myself that Archie WN/SL are my preferred looks anyway, so the Toons' shelf days are numbered as is, lol.

Playmates is re-releasing those 2003 Turtles...  Is that going to stick a needle in Super7's eye again, or do we think something got worked out where Playmates goes first, then Super7 is allowed to follow later?  I would hope Brian didn't make that announcement only to have Playmates surprise him with their stuff.

Man.... $450 seems steep for that Turtles van.   I guess that's how much they charged for the Thundertank,  but the Tank seemed more substantial somehow, I guess -  although I suppose they have the same level of detail.    I don't know.

Glad it's not something I was tempted to get.

@detrimental-fig assuming Super7 is doing a more toon accurate approach then I don’t think Viacom would care if both companies are releasing 2003 product at the same time. They’re not likely to compete with each other since the price difference will be pretty substantial.

No, because the situation surrounding that was a little different. Playmates main gripe was essentially "Hey, those were OUR designs and we are currently re-releasing those designs".

And Viacom, wanting the big merchandising push with Playmates and Mutant Mayhem, was essentially throwing Playmates a bone and said "Hey, okay, fine. Super7, you can't do those specific designs down to the exact details anymore".

That's why you started seeing little things here and there like a belt buckle being different, or what have you. Playmates being Playmates, though, continued to bitch, and Viacom again folded and said "You can't do Playmates designs in any fashion anymore".

Here is the kicker, though: All this, even though Viacom/Nickelodeon owns the toy designs that Playmates was bitching about, and could have told PM to fuck off at any time.

But NOW...it's the same situation as with NECA: different price points, different areas of the store, exact designs to the media, not touching what Playmates is doing. Super7 is doing the cartoon designs rather than the Playmates interpretations of the designs, which weren't exact. Playmates has zero standing here.

I'm also hearing there's a real possibility that Super7 used the backlash with Anime Rat King to go to Viacom and work some more Playmates design styled figures into the line.
