Like MANY people that grew up with the vintage line, Triceraton was also one of my favorites. While I didn't pre-order this one like I did with Punk Don (by the looks of it - a figure I may regret paying full price for), I was really hoping he'd turn out in such a way that I'd get excited and want to get him immediately.
I'd certainly like to have him in my collection just for the nostalgia of it. But given his unnecessary limitations... it's a figure I can't imagine ever buying unless he's in that 40-50% off range. Because that's what he's worth, Brian.
Also, hard agree that Slash being a goofy wimp in the cartoon was a letdown -- best possible way to describe it. So much potential for that to be a really cool, sinister (ish -- the cartoon wasn't known for edginess) villain. I had a whole head canon for Slash as a kid and boy.. mine was better.
I just need my TMNT 03 figures. I am getting to that stage in this pre-order period where I'm about to start frothing at the mouth for these figures.
Triceraton is in my PoL but I'm waiting on a couple more MotUO items to get in there too. They sent notice that these items would be charging soon, so it would be foolish to ship without them.
I'm keeping Triceraton despite some of the negative reviews. Without General Traag, I need someone to fill that "space soldier" role. The figure still looks good to me, and I don't have space to display, let alone display in dynamic poses anyway.
I have Don in my PoL. For whatever reason, Bebop is lagging behind. I haven't even seen one of those processing soon emails for him.
I ordered Triceraton when he became In Stock on BBTS. He should be here in a few days. I don't know if I'll end up with anyone else from this Wave or not. Punk Don would be the most likely.
But for now, just Triceraton. No matter what I want all the unique characters inspired by the vintage Playmates toy line. It's crazy to think, but Rat King in a couple months may be the last TMNT Ultimate I ever get if they don't make any more Playmates inspired Ultimates.
No matter what I wish we could get General Traag, and on a very personal level I was hoping we'd get Sandstorm. I love Camels (big surprise, I know). And since they made Scratch, I was always hopeful they'd do Sandstorm. Who knows. Maybe Super7 can get by with a few more Playmates inspired characters over the years.
I cannot overstate how potentially violent I will become if we seriously don't get Heavy Metal Raph because Super7 stops doing vintage redos. Cannot. Overstate.
Whatever loophole allowed them to do Hip Hop Mike should be in play with Raph. Some were guessing it was related to some ephemera produced back in the 90s that had those designs on them so they existed outside the Playmates toyline. I guess the real fear with Super7 is for the 2k3 waves to do too well that they just say "screw it" to the vintage-inspired stuff and go all-in on the 2k3 line. I don't think that will happen (at least not this soon), but I also didn't think they'd botch Disney so bad that they'd get the boot from all of those licenses so never say never with this company.
Mostly just posting this tease to say if Super7 is going to start doing Mirage turtles in lieu of the Playmates stuff then I'm going to be very upset. They have already done ReAction Mirage style turtles, but it's possible this is their plan for TMNT in their budget line of Ultimates. Repaint the existing turtles with a Mirage inspired deco along with April, the Foot, and Shredder. They've already done Casey though, and the existing Shredder would be a bad fit for a Mirage one, but when has that stopped Super7? They have also been doing blind box ReAction figures and these could be for that. I guess we'll know in time.
Okay, so my last post is a big "never mind." These are just straight, new, ReAction figures with no gimmick attached. That's good, I guess, but even for ReAction these figures look mostly terrible. April and Casey are fine, but has Super7 ever looked at the Foot or Shredder in a Mirage comic book? I mean, they shared some images from the comics so I guess they did, but whoever designed or okayed these designs apparently did not. These are about as lazy as it gets, but I don't know if anyone really cares. I see so little excitement around TMNT ReAction that I genuinely don't know who is buying them.
Those Mirage color ReAction figures are just that, recolors. The sculpts they're using are just the cartoon figures, but those are among their weaker sculpts, especially April. I had a feeling the teaser would be for ReAction, because I got excited at first, then remembered this is Super7, and most things are set for disappointment from them.
Yup, and it's just plain weird they still included the cape with Shredder when he didn't wear one in the comics. Why bother? It just highlights even more how they're repurposed figures. At least the toon turtles they did recently got new heads, but I guess the Foot wasn't deserving of that. If people really want Mirage five points figures, just get the Mezco set. It's actually a better value, though there's no guarantee they ever do more characters in that style.
In actual, Ultimates, news there's a glow-in-the-dark Scratch on the way, if you're into these. I'm guessing this is a NYCC timed release.
Triceraton arrived from BBTS and I love it. Yes, reviews prepared me for the limited articulation in the biceps and elbows, but the shoulders work fine. I really dig the number of accessories he comes with. Almost all of them made it onto the figure, though I can't find a place for the two grenades and the extra rat. I'm sure that rat tail can tuck into the belt somehow, but I wish there was a more secure place for the two loose grenades. The weapons are all great, especially the big bulky ones the original came with. The look on his face, in his eyes, is so intense! He is really here to mess stuff up. Again, in absence of a General Traag, I'm happy to have this Dimension X denizen in his place. As big as he is, he doesn't seem overwhelming. I'm really pleased.
Yeah, I got my Triceraton too and though he certainly has flaws I'm kind of giddy to have an "ultimate" version of one of my top 5 vintage figures. As always though, the good things about this line always make me even more salty about the ineptitude of Super7 and the almost certain demise of the vintage redos.
Speaking of ineptitude, yep, when I saw that Mirage tease I immediately thought to myself "those are going to be straight repaints of old ReAction figures". And yep, that's what they did. What's funny is these won't even match the "Mirage" turtles they did because those are grayscale with pops of red.
And yet another GitD figure... yes we all saw it coming but this one makes even less sense. What a joke.
Looks like you can add a glow Wingnut to the mix as well:
