I LOVE Mars Attacks! and had 3 on pre-order, but after seeing a video of them, I just don't see the money there. Add that to the fact that I don't think I've had a figure from them yet that didn't have at least some problem... can't justify the cost.
Awesome! Thanks for the heads up! Grabbed Scumbug for $38 as well. I think I’m still going to hold out for $55 on Wingnut. I think we’ll get there.
So Super7 is doing an SDCC… party wagon?! That’s crazy. An entire van repainted to match the Mikey’s Pizzeria theme of their figure. It’s pretty cool and quite the exclusive, I just can’t imagine how many people are going to want to pony up the (probably) $500+ for it. Could make it quite “rare and collectible” though!
That's the PERFECT type of con exclusive. It's not an iconic character that has no other way of being released, and for those that want this, and have the money for it, they'll get their chance. Everyone else can easily pass and ignore it (but we all know THAT part won't happen on social media).
I dig the Pizza Party Van, I’m certain I won’t want it for whatever insane price it ends up costing, but I think it looks great!
somewhere in the multiverse I’m displaying the GitD Turtles I also didn’t buy because of the additional $10 mark up with that van! But not this reality.
The van seems like them scraping the bottom of their very unimaginative barrel. That's a terrible exclusive.
A variant Party Wagon is perhaps the most insane thing Super7 has done thus far. Maybe it will be super limited, otherwise I can't imagine demand being very high for such an item considering the assumed price tag. Hard to imagine anyone who passed on the first version wanting this instead and equally hard to imagine those who did buy the first version having the room to display both.
Or even having the room to carry the thing home with them on a flight? The box is huge for the van, so what, you just pay the shipping for it? Geez.
They must have quite the profit margin on the van itself if they think this is a good idea. Or they're high off their own farts if they think there's more than 100 people who would want to pay $500-600 for this. Just baffling, as Super7 decisions often are.
I think this is another case of Brian (and possibly only Brian) saying “you know what would be cool?!”
It’s certainly never been done, I’ll give them that.
I wonder if it is possible these were produced while they were making the original Party Wagon, as a way to meet their production numbers? I don't know a lot about the technical end of toy manufacturing but I know it has to be worth it with cutting the molds and I'd imagine the classic style Party Wagon probably didn't sell just a ton. Maybe they ran this different paint deco at the end of that production and then warehoused it for later? I doubt they made very many of these and I can't see them doing a whole factory run for just this, even with it all being reused tooling.
This does seem very much like a Brian Flynn pet project and if the rumors are true and he isn't calling the shots at Super 7 anymore, that would have put the decisions surrounding this SDCC exclusive as having been made back when it was under his control.
Just something to think about I guess.
It was either part of the production run of the original Party Wagon or likely went into production right after. I'm sure it was factored into the costs of the initial run as a way to make more money off the molds. And to make sure stuff is actually available at the convention these things have to enter the planning stage well in advance so the timing makes sense. It's still not a cheap item to produce though which makes it an odd choice for this format. Especially considering SDCC is a big destination event - how are people going to get this massive thing home that didn't arrive by car? If they're smart, they'll offer to ship it for you (for a price) so you don't have to lug the damn thing around and find somewhere that can take care of that. Sort of like how Disney World and Disneyland will basically ship anything you buy while on your vacation if it's your preference (and you're willing to pay for the service) so you don't have to transport potentially delicate items on an airplane. Needless to say, those who want this thing and can't attend SDCC probably have little to worry about as I'm guessing they will have some to sell either on their website after the event or to offload onto a retail partner. Unless they only made an absurdly low number.
Veebs has another interview with Flynn up:
Nothing of particular note. They do talk about the 2k3 turtles and there's the usual silly mental gymnastics on display when discussing the double-jointed knees and elbows that will make most roll their eyes. Some look at the exclusives and the note that, should you actually want one of these re-deco'd Party Wagons, they take orders at the event and ship it so at least they thought out that part.
so at least they thought out that part.
Is bad that this was the most shocking part of the interview?
Wave 10 review:
April looks bad and boring, Karai looks like she's fine (but limited due to the Super7 articulation), Casey is Casey again, and Leo is...fine too? The wave seems ultra dull to me.
