Not a lot of TMNT news during the blackout at Fwoosh, but one piece of news was that the 2k3 TMNT from Super7 will go up on June 13 and they'll include double-jointed elbows (ooo!). It was all discussed in the latest interview with former Fwoosh master Veebee. And if you like Brian train-wreck interviews, oh boy is that one for you! The justification for the added joints was pretty laughable, but I don't want to spoil the fun for those who want to watch it.

Please feel free to share. I have no interest in watching those interviews.

So, nothing new, since everything was already revealed in that reddit post, just same old cringe-worthy dialog and typical excuses from Brian.

Also a 20% defective rate on the legs on the Devil Flanders in SImpsons Ultimates. Good thing they hid that in an interview and didn't release something telling people to contact them for a fix.

@thewyldman and that 20% is a bunch of bull. I did reach out and their customer service rep said ALL OF THEM are defective, hence why they couldn't replace it (and apparently have no interest in fixing it like they have past figures). I have yet to encounter someone who has legs that work properly on that figure.

@nilocomic he tried to spin it that the kids who bought and grew up on 2k3 TMNT were accustomed to double-jointed elbows and that's why they had to include them, but didn't have to on the Playmates homages. Which just felt like Brian backing into the decision when the real story is likely contained in that Reddit post from a few months ago that basically said he's being overruled on a lot of decisions now and has to go along with it.

Brian Flynn is the very definition of a one-man clown show.

Look, every single interview he does further convinces me that he's a piece of trash. A scapegoating, whiny, entitled little liar. BUT.. this one, folks. This one took the prize for him not even trying to seem reasonable anymore and I can't imagine ANYONE with a brain is buying his excuses anymore.

Like, when discussing a group of people that all collect modern toys, he's going to say only the ones born after a certain year care about articulation? Dude, you're a fucking liar because there's zero chance you're not aware of every other toy line that exists right now. The same people buying your Turtles are buying Legends, Mezco, Jada, NECA, McFarlane, etc. Get off it. You're just bad at running a toy company because you only care about what things look like in a package.

The worst part is, he would be so much more likeable while still being kind of cagey about it if he had just said 'we're re-evaluating what the customers want and people really want to see more articulation.' That would legitimately make him look like a toy-hero that cares about what his customers want who just came to the realization a bit late. Instead of being the cranky asshole lamenting that 'them youngs need to be treated special.' AND, AND... fuuuuuuuuucking AND...  by extension acting like all of us older collectors were happy with the way he was making the previous figures. Speaking as someone that did not grow up in the era of 200x, and was watching the original airing of the original cartoon... fuck all the way off with that.

Anyway, I'm never getting Rocksteady so I'm selling off my Bebop and probably Shredder? Selling my Mondo Gecko. Undecided on Muckman and Mutagen Man, but there's a good chance I'll keep those. I think I want to keep my Foot Soldier, but I'm afraid he'll blow apart like so many others' did. Gonna keep Samurai Leo, because I can't resist, Slash, and the four brothers for sure. And unless there's a massive quality improvement, I won't be even considering my beloved Rocker Turtles. Tired of waiting for this guy to get a clue, and I don't trust that adding a few more points of articulation is going to have any real impact on the quality of Super7's products. If anything, it's just more failure points. Not to mention it wouldn't be surprising for the double joints to be almost as limited as the single joints just because S7 generally sucks at making articulated action figures.

Hey, the forums are back!

Anyway, yeah, his excuses really bother me.  I didn't have air conditioning in my car when I was a kid, and I had windows where you had to turn the handle to lower them.. doesn't mean if I'm buying a car in 2024 that I'd want the same thing.  If we just wanted duplicates of our original toys, we'd re-buy the old Playmates toys.   Besides, the original 2k3 toys didn't have double jointed elbows either.

And he keeps talking about the aesthetic.. double jointed elbows and knees don't look bad, just about every major action figure company in the market today does them and has figured out how to make them look good.  I've never seen a double jointed elbow and thought "that looks terrible" as much as I did when I saw the waist gap on Super7's Casey Jones.

I had almost two dozen of these, but I sold all of them except for the four Turtles and canceled all my BBTS pre-orders.  I kept the four turtles because I really, really love their toy colors, and no other brand, Neca, Mezco, SHF, have done those so it's my only option.  But I sold the rest, at a bit of a loss because most of them are still available brand new for less than retail.   The Turtles were my biggest fandom in the '80s, and I prefer the toy looks for most characters over the cartoon, movie or comic looks, so this line should have been my dream line, and when it started, I thought it would be.  But yeah, the constant QC issues, the frustrating character selection, and Brian's condescending interviews really turned me off.  I realized collecting this line wasn't making me happy, so I got out.

I caved on Wingnut/Screwloose and Scumbug off Amazon, using rewards points for the majority of the purchase. Wingnut and Scumbug are really good quality. Mine have no quality issues, feel very sturdy, look well painted. Wingnut is massive. I like that the "bionic" wings can be removed from his actual wings. Screwloose has minimal articulation, but it works.

Scumbug is also a lot of fun despite colors not being fully accurate to the vintage toy. I have tiny nitpicks about him: his jaw is hinged but won't shut more; he comes with six bugs that can plug into five holes on his body, the sixth of which I drilled a new hole for; and he has a second bug sprayer that has no where to be stored except an odd peg on his backpack that doesn't actually seem to hold anything. Haven't found a useful video or review to show me otherwise. He would otherwise be as perfect as Wingnut.

I don't know what you're talking about - mine totally have double jointed elbows, knees, fingers, toes, jaw, tongue, and movable eyes like in Hot Toys.

All from 2003 Playmates.

Get on it, Flynn.

@normdapito I ran into Wingnut in a comic book store and agree, he actually does look pretty nice. I'm not paying what they're asking though (and I think the comic store tacked on another five bucks), but if he drops I may reconsider.

I do agree with all who point out that adding a second hinge to their elbows and knees isn't going to be a cure-all. I prefer double-joints, but I can live without them if the single-hinged option actually, you know, works. I think the standard turtles are mostly fine. If anything, I don't care for how they did the heads (and the hips, which we've all beaten to death at this point, though range there is at least good if it's not floppy), but not enough so that I'm asking for a redo. And I'm skeptical as well that they'll engineer said joints properly. They still have trouble with basic ball and socket hip joints, ab crunches, or ball-joints at the waist. I'm betting on double-elbows with big, cavernous, gaps like some of the stuff McFarlane has put out even though double-jointed turtle elbows should be really easy given the presence of the elbow pad. Watch them also up the price of the figures again for this addition. It will be their version of Hasbro's pinless joints.

If anything, Brian will sabotage the double joints by intentionally making them look as ass as possible and then use the complaints about it as 'proof' that he was right all along about how to articulate the figures and that he should be allowed to make all the decisions. A little conspiratorial? Sure. But, to my mind, entirely plausible and maybe even likely.

@thewyldman No, don't misunderstand me. Super7 will almost definitely fuck this up even if they TRY to do it right. But a) I don't expect them to do much in the way of 'trying' to do anything right, and b) I think it's just as likely they'll fuck it up on purpose, if Brian has any say over final construction and design.

If I knew they could figure out how to make joints tighter and not have a floppy mess like Krang, I'd be more excited for double joints.

They’ll make double elbow joints with less range than single swivel hinge joints.
