It should say a lot that I sat there staring at my screen for a long time at work earlier today when I got the email about this and I just... still couldn't do it. My son LOVES cats and cat-related stuff, so I wanted to grab Scratch for him all along and this was a great chance for that. And maybe pick up a couple figures I missed. But even at 20 bucks.. I just can't. I told myself 'you'll regret it if you don't get them at these prices.'  But.... will I?

Will I? Am I really 'missing out' by not having more Super7 junk in my house? Especially junk for a line that's clearly failing. I mean, I don't think I need ancillary characters for a line that's probably over. If they were selling Rocksteady at 20 bucks? I'd grab that, I think. That would basically 'complete' my collection outside of the deeper cut characters Super7 will definitely never get to now. So.. I just don't see the point.

A little miffed that I was stupid enough to buy these at full price. Fuckin' practically could have had all of wave 5 for what it cost me just to get Leo.

Never mind, I found the answer on a blog, and they do! That's great, I think I'm gonna pick up him and Ray.

Speaking of which, was Ray Fillet a grail figure for anyone else as a kid? I fell in love with him from the back lineup but he was nowhere to be seen in stores for the longest time. I had dreams about him. Eventually I saw him in person at Toys R Us while I was with a babysitter (a friend of my parents) and my jaw hit the floor. The lady was kind enough to buy him for me, what a gem.  Been trying to decide if I wanted this one or the Archie version, but I think my heart is with this one.

Also, if anyone wants to buy a Sewer Surfer Mike body and accessories for a couple bucks LMK.

Yeah, I really wanted Ray as a kid. I think it was just from seeing the cross-sell too. Something about that design worked for me. I'd get a kid's storybook of his origin first, which was more or less the Archie comic of the same, and I read that thing cover to cover many times. One of my friends got the figure before me, but wouldn't let me play with him. I did eventually get him though. I thought I'd get the Super7 version due to my connection to the vintage figure, but seeing him in a store and knowing his joints are likely loose and floppy was enough to convince me that I didn't want this version. It bugs me that the chest and sleeves don't match. I thought maybe I'd get him when he did hit clearance, but I'm still not feeling any pull. If they ever did a variant that was in his colors after sticking the vintage toy in hot water (powder blue and yellow) then I'd reconsider. Even though it makes way more sense to wait for deals like this current one, I think I'm only going to get the figures that I'm actually tempted to get when they're full price. Doesn't mean I'll get them at full price, but if I don't really want them at $55 I might not really want them at $35. Sometimes it's hard to fight the urge to just buy something because it's cheap, but a mediocre toy is a mediocre toy no matter the price.

I had to get Samurai Leo and Surfer Mikey at these prices.  I wasn't going to get any of the disguise figures but at $22.50 apiece after shipping and tax I feel good about the purchase.  Now I just need Krang to get down to $20ish and I'll be done catching up.

This stuff has to make Super7 nervous.  As has been said many times, what's the point in preordering these already expensive figures when we know they'll be cheaper later on?  It's hard to position yourself as a maker of collectibles when your product can be had at 65% off from one of the biggest toy e-tailers.

It's definitely not the sign of a healthy line of products. Veebs just posted an interview with Brian where he talks about how preorders went down last year for the stuff arriving now. In other words, he's suggesting retailers won't have the inventory they have had for past waves and is trying to drum up sales at full price. TMNT Wave 8 is in stock everywhere though, and in great numbers, so I wouldn't adjust any consumer behavior based on that.

Oh wow I think I had the same book! From one of the Scholastic book fairs at school. I have a vague memory of being confused because he was different than the toy. The toy seemed younger and cooler while the Archie version was more... paternal? Oddly.

I had the magenta version, and I'm thinking about customizing him that way since I would only need to paint the chest. Will pick up a bottle of kiki or polyurethane to see if it mends the joints.

I passed on Ray when he was $27 at Amazon, partially because I just purchased three of the turtles and was wary of getting anymore S7 product until I checked them out, and $27 still did seem a bit high. This time it was more of an impulse purchase along with Surfer Mike which I got primarily for the heads, but I'm also happy having one figure representation of the bizarre vibe of that period of the early 90s. $54, tax and shipping included, so a 2 for 1 basically. That's how I reasoned it at least.

It's interesting how our minds/intuition find value and the line we draw between what's too much, what feels fair, and what we'd purchase because we perceive we're lucking out on a bargain. Maybe the jokes on us and Bryan is a marketing mastermind-- Super7 made cheap figures to sell at $27 all along, knowing that even if people eventually revolted around the inflated price, he'd still make enough at discount to make $$$

This is where I landed as well. I argued with myself for quite a while over these sales and I just had to come back to the fact that at full price I didn't even care that those figures existed, because I don't think they're good figures. But like you said, you get that urge when you see something really cheap, compared to its usual price, that it almost feels silly NOT to get it.

But the reality is... just because I paid less for it doesn't mean I'm going to like it more.

Having all the TMNT figures that are on sale right now (and damn it, I paid full prices for all of them lol), I can tell you the ones that are the most worth getting at the prices they are, are as follows.

Slash (a freakin steal at $20)
Ray Fillet
Mondo Gecko

Slash and Rey are so big and bulky.  So much plastic.  Well sculpted, great paint apps, and fun accessories.  Mondo isn't as big, but again, great sculpt, great accessories, and like Rey and Slash, just didn't seem to have many, if any problems be it loose or tight joints, etc.

Those 3 figures at the prices they are, are worth having.  Slash is worth having even if you have NO OTHER FIGURE.  It just looks great.

The others, while nice looking, all had their little (or big) issues.  Parts that need attached that were hard to get on, or didn't stay on, loose or way to tight joints, odd sculpting decisions, strange articulation or poor posing ability, etc.

But, man, I understand anyone who just doesn't buy any. Even at the cheap prices.  I stuck with Super7 for some time, but over this year I have just kind of given up on them.  I'm going to get the final 4 ThunderCats I need to feel complete, and I think that's it.

These figures just cost too much anyways, but then you figure in all the constant little, or big problems that each and every figure has over each and every Ultimates property, it's just ridiculous.  It's not acceptable. Especially in the current high-priced world we live in.

Seeing that even the Thundertank made it on sale, I wonder if the Party Wagon'll get dropped in price...

@supercamel-1982  I would argue that Slash is -easily- one of the best Ultimates figures Super7 has ever made. And they can't even get rid of it at 20 bucks. That's very sad.
Hard agree about Mondo as well. While I think his ROM is more limited than it should be, he's still a very solid and fun figure and, again, probably one of the best Ultimates figures Super7 has made in terms of quality for price (especially given he was 40 or 45 dollars, not 55).

The only one that's still even remotely tempting to me is Ace Duck, because that was a popular one for me as a kid. And I think, even with some of the imperfections that figure has, I'd probably have gone in for it if they'd made his coat the correct color. But that entire figure just looks so washed out that I can't make myself do it.  Just crazy that even at 20 bucks so many of these figures still don't feel like a particularly good deal. At least not SUCH a good deal that you're insane not to buy them.

But Slash and Mondo? Yeah. If you collect TMNT at all and don't have those two, you're nuts not to bite at 20 bucks.

I’ll co-sign the endorsements for Slash, Ray, and Mondo. I’d throw in Leatherhead too, if his joints aren’t loose. I lucked out with all of my copies having decent joint tolerances, and personally, I think they’re worth it for sales prices like the ones on BBTS. I even paid a little more than those prices for most of my Super7 TMNT figures, and I’m perfectly satisfied with them. Full price is definitely way too much though.

The only one I’ve had regrets with getting is Ace Duck. There’s just not much to him and that brown is definitely too light. If the brown had been darker or even if the figure had just been bigger, I might have liked him better.

Muckman is a little tempting, but I know the articulation is pretty limited, and I don’t have much attachment to the character. If I could get him for the ridiculous price I got Mutagen Man ($5), I’d jump on it immediately.

The only figure that's actually tempted me so far is Casey, not helped by the fact that NECA's offering only hits the mark for a Mirage Casey if I squint, but even at $25 I just can't bite the bullet. If my wallet had a lot more funds right now, maybe. But at this point I'd rather just wait on Mezco's version, or the inevitable billionth other company that'll license TMNT and make a version of all these characters.

I've ended up with Lanard and Spinmaster figures and had fun with em, $10 for a cheapo 4-7 inch figure is nice, $25 for a subpar figure is... okay. $50+? That figure better be godly quality. And a character that I absolutely need.

Super7 actually shared the links and promos for BBTS's sale on Facebook. "Here's our product for way less than what we charge to begin with! Buy it anyway!"

I do have a tendency to buy extras if the price is low enough, but I didn't give any TMNT a second look. I do however, have other Ultimates in my cart at the moment: Snake Eyes, Pinocchio, Animaniacs Yakko, Wakko, Dot. I haven't pulled the trigger on it yet, and I even pared down Ren & Stimpy from the cart. I've got issues with most of these, that despite the lower prices, I know I won't be satisfied with the figures. The Animaniacs have HUGE heads. Just way too big. This is also not the version of Snake Eyes I would want, I'd prefer the ninja version in all gray. The only one I don't have much doubt about is Pinocchio because he can be kind of a one-off and fit into other collections.

I will echo that there are definitely some TMNT that are must haves, that were still satisfying to me at full price. Slash, Muckman, Mondo Gecko, Ray Fillet, Leatherhead, are all figures I really love and are worth sale prices for sure. I say, if you're on the fence about any of those, go for it. I think in a year or two, if you change your mind, those will double their original prices.

@nilocomic I think Muckman is at or near the top of "Best in the line" lists. His paint and sculpt are that good. Articulation actually isn't too bad - he's a big, pile of garbage so he was never going to do anything too crazy, but he can do what he needs to. If anything, he's just light on accessories. It would have been cool to get an alternate head or something, but Joe Eyeball probably ate up most of the accessory budget.

Hang on a lantern on it, right? I can't see any other way they could have responded. If they just pretend it isn't happening, we react how we're all reacting. If they advertise it like it's no big deal, it gives their supporters at least some (almost certainly manufactured) ammunition to say 'see? Super7 isn't worried so that means everything is fine.'

I fully broke down and went crazy on the BBTS Super7 Turtles stuff.

Full disclosure that the only Turtles stuff that I have otherwise are the 4 Playmates Turtles 4-packs (with the Turtles, that terrible Shredder, BeBop, Rocksteady and Triceraton) and an older Playmates set of the four Turtles with Splinter. I also bought all of the Hasbro Turtles/Power Rangers mash-up from another recent BBTS sale. I bought all of those listed above at least 50% off original retail. I also have only one lone NECA ultimate Foot Soldier that I bought for full price from Walmart recently, otherwise I have no NECA Turtles stuff or anything from any other Turtles line.

However from this BBTS Super 7 sale I bought:

Wave 1 Set of 4 Variants (Raph, Splinter, Baxter, Footsoldier)

Wave 2 Set of 4 (Leo, Bebop, Shredder, Mutagen Man)

Wave 3 Set of 4 (Mikey, April, Metalhead and Rocksteady)

Wave 4 Set of 4 (Donny, Casey, Mondo Gecko & Muckman/Joe Eyeball)

Wave 5 Set of 4 (Krang, Leatherhead, Ray Fillet, Sewer Samurai Leo)

Wave 6 Everyone except Sewer Sufer Mikey and got 2 sets of Mousers instead (Ace Duck, Scratch, Slash, 10 Total Mousers)

It was close to $700 after taxes and shipping ($4 flat rate), but I couldn't help myself. This was basically a complete upscale (compared to the Playmates stuff I had) Turtles collection at a tremendous discount. Six whole waves for that price so I felt like I had to do it and caved. I probably could have stopped with the first 4 waves and been completely satisfied, but decided what the heck?

The question will now become whether I now will feel like I have to have anyone from Waves 7 or 8, the Party Wagon or any of the other variants --- or anybody from the NECA lines that haven't made their way into the Super 7 offerings yet.
