@freditor I wasn't going to get him, because I'm not into space stuff.  But the storm trooper helmet cracks me up too much.  Something I didn't really notice before.

Super7 revised the release schedule for this line confirming that the current wave rolling out will be the only one that makes it out in 2023. The new dates:

Wave 9 - March 2024

Wave 7 - June 2024

Wave 10 - July 2024

Given their delays already, we’ll be lucky if these dates hold.

June for wave 7 now?!?

Yeah...I think I'm about done waiting for Triceraton.

I loved the update for the Wave 8 figures that have apparently still not hit Super7 proper and will be shipped to direct buyers in November...well after BBTS.  Super7's going to be pushing those dumb extra accessory bonus packs for TMNT in the future SO HARD, because there is absolutely no reason to buy from them directly.

@hopethisworks If it makes you feel better, I almost spit out my drink when I read your comment.

@freditor  I've seen a few different versions of Undercover Don customs, but I think I might like yours the best. Not enough to spend all that money on the stuff to make one (I was never a big fan of this variant anyway), but it's very cool to see. Thanks for sharing. And don't sell yourself short because it certainly looks like it required a bit more skill than you let on.

This line isn't bullet proof, and they aren't going to take a loss on a wave just to make some small group happy.

Exactly right. And moreover, I don't think it's shitposting on Super7 to point out that, like virtually every toy line ever, this line WILL end at some point and SOME things will just go unmade. It's inevitable. And that's okay. But it does mean that it doesn't serve any use to plug your ears and pretend every single thing anyone might want is probably going to happen or even has a good chance of happening. Some things are definitely less likely than others.
I would hazard to guess that a lot of the less popular Turtle variants are never going to get made. I would also be very surprised if S7 was willing to go anywhere near 'Chief Leo' or even 'Bandito-Bashin Mike.' If you know you know. So there's stuff that'll just stay in the '90s (in some cases, where it definitely deserves to stay).

And if S7 is listening to fans at all, I think they're going to have to be careful to make this line too much about Turtle variants and not enough about creating a TMNT universe for the shelf. I think the most common complaint here and elsewhere outside of quality control is the number of unique characters they haven't gotten to yet.

@theknightdamien I think you are just being a jerk.  Have a nice life.  On the ignore list you go.

I don't blame you. Some people just have nothing better to do but complain all day every day and try to ruin everything for the rest of us.  It's not helpful. It's not fun.

It's strange how some people view 'discussing reality' as 'complaining.'  Especially referring to me when I didn't complain -once- about Super7 making or not making any particular Sports Turtle, but rather just discussed the reality of how they were likely to approach their options. Some people just want to be offended and play the victim, in my opinion.

I wouldn't be surprised if this one is already discounted a bit on Amazon by Christmas. For the real patient, I would guess come this time next year is when you'll be able to get it for 40 bucks or lower.

I hate myself a not inconsiderable amount for saying this, but if I'm being honest...  If I see Raph for somewhere in the 40-45 CAD mark, I'm gonna end up buying him. He was a figure I really liked a lot as a kid and I'm more willing to put up with the deficiencies at that price point. Still won't love it, but at least I won't feel like I got completely cheated because he'll still look pretty good on the shelf. He just doesn't seem like he's fun to do anything with.

But at the regular 80 CAD these go for new... yeesh. Can't do it, even if I would like to have him on the shelf with the also-incredibly-disappointing Samurai Leo.

But I'd wager that "new" slot in every vintage toy wave is often also going to be the turtle of the wave and that it's simply easier to design new turtle costumes that "fit" the style than it is to count on the success of characters like Karai.

To piggyback on this line of thought; It's also worth considering that nostalgia tug being why most of us are here. If S7 creates a brand new character for TMNT there's a really good chance no one is going to care about that figure because the big draw here is notalgia. But Donatello is Donatello - you can put him in any costume, even one totally new to the character, but he'll still be Donatello and create that nostalgia tug for a lot of collectors. So Turtle variants are the safe bet if you're going to do something new.

I would say the further you get from the Turtles the less successful you're going to be trying to do a new, unique costume variant that's going to draw those same people in because you have fewer collectors nostalgic about that particular character. Whereas virtually all TMNT fans are nostalgic about the Turtles themselves. In short - I agree with you. If S7 wants to do something totally unique to them, it's probably going to be a Turtle variant or maybe a Shredder variant.

Certainly, the easiest thing for Super7 to do if it wanted to do more sports turtles and skirt around the whole Playmates thing would be to just switch up the pairings. Instead of baseball Raph make hockey Raph, instead of a football Leo give him baseball - and so on. Of course, the problem there is they already did Slam-Dunkin' Don so people want the other versions and might not settle for new mash-ups. We already see some of that sentiment with NECA's Universal Monsters x TMNT where a lot of people wanted Mike as Frankenstein, Donatello as Dracula, etc. Though they did pair up Leo and the Creature like Playmates did. And yeah, there's some definitely some variants from the old line that wouldn't be made today. I'm not sure if they'll even have interest in the military stuff, though Brian was a military brat so maybe he has some nostalgia there, or maybe resentment, who knows?

I'm still skeptical their new figure approach will even be successful. The new April and Karai look all right, but there's nothing linking them to the old line except that they're both characters from TMNT. The vintage line had its own unique qualities, most of which was found in the texture for me. Both of those figures lack that and feel a bit uninspired as a result. I'm curious what the new turtle is in the next wave. There are a few spots where one turtle was left out or came up short like the birthday wave of figures which didn't feature Donatello. It could be something like that, though is anyone really pining for a birthday party Donatello? Donatello and Leo are also the leaders in terms of variants so far (unless you want to count Metalhead Michelangelo) so I would guess the next figure is either Raph or Mikey. Or it's out of left field and it's Venus. As was stated previously, it's going to be a hard sell for a nostalgia-dependent line like this one to succeed with anything that's completely new.

I wonder how the sales for Guerilla Gorilla did.  He was a non-OG figure design that should blend in quite well from what I've seen.  Of course he was also priced as a deluxe so maybe he's not a great barometer for how a non-turtle original will do, but I also don't think Ninja April and Karai are going to give good data as they look incredibly dull and uninspired (human characters aren't the line's strongsuit though).  I hope whatever new design they reveal in the next wave is brightly colored and full of texture as I think those two things are key for nailing the aesthetic.  Bonus points for one mutated hand and foot and they better be on opposite sides.

I received the Genghis Frog figure and he's honestly one of the best figures I've ever gotten from Super7. He's one of the figures that shows just how amazing this line CAN be when everything comes together.

Unfortunately I do have to agree with the statements of a lot of other people as I feel all the delays are going to hurt this line especially as they start bringing in the characters from the 2003 incarnation of the Turtles. It's sad as there are many characters specifically from that series that I'd love to see get made into really awesome figures. I just don't know if Super7 will get to them or how long will it take for them to get made.

@mikeysee The idea of doing the two other mutant frogs that never got playmates designs has been thrown around for awhile now in various interviews and I feel like that would be the easiest thing to get people's attention again.

I'm curious if they're even keeping track of number of variants or just starting with a design they like and doing it.

They teased a crossover with something they have a license to. They said it's never been done before but is something Playmates could have done.

The two things that come to mind that would approve a crossover (rule out Disney and WB stuff) are Mission Impossible and Toxic Crusader.

MI because it's from Paramount, just like TMNT. Same consumer products rep and I think there have been rumblings that S7 got a ReAction license for Top Gun and MI (no Cruise likenesses but ReAction have been done many times without actor involvement).

Toxic Crusaders because Troma is down for anything.

Either of those SOUND like Donatello variants to me. Especially Toxie. Nerd with a mop isn't far from nerd with a bo staff. Hacking, tech gloves, masks? That's Donatello again.

Maybe you could do Mission Impossible Leo, riffing on his 80s voice actor being Solid Snake.

Or maybe you do all four TMNT dressed as Tom Cruise characters. Top Gun Leo, MI Donnie, Risky Business Mikey, Days of Thunder Raph.

Anyway... I think it would almost be a miss to do Toxic Crusaders crossovers and blend anyone other than Don with Toxie.

@pg-superfan I pretty much assumed that cross-over was with Toxic Crusaders. Playmates had that license in the early 90s and could have done it, but didn't. It even felt like a sister line to TMNT given the approach they took with it. Viacom didn't own TMNT back then so M.I. would have probably not been possible without Playmates also getting the toy license at the time like they did with Star Trek. TMNT x Toxic Crusaders could be okay, though the two are almost too similar making the mashup feel kind of pointless. A goopy, gross, turtle with a mop though could be fun. And it lends itself well to a glow-in-the-dark variant which we all know Super7 loves.

Got Genghis from BBTS today. I agree that it's a very strong figure. The major flaw I'll get out of the way, and this is really just personal preference, is that he's big. Not HUGE like Muckman or anything, but big like Ray Fillet. Bigger than the Turtles, MUCH bigger than Ace Duck or Mondo Gecko. I feel like he should be closer in size to Ace and Mondo or at least the Turtles. Other than that, I think the figure is great and functional and well accessories (though I didn't even realize the grenades are not removable from the belt). The tongue gun is ridiculous, but "works" just like the vintage one did. Oh, the other flaw is the thread holding his boogie board shield to the strap is VERY thin elastic string. That really feels like it could snap at any moment, and I don't get why they wouldn't use better string. The eyes are not nearly as stoned as I had seen from earlier shots. The open mouth with the extended tongue is insane, but I probably won't display it. The shades barely stay on, pretty much just by gravity.
