I wish I knew how much like the old Technodrome this Classic Re-release will be. Like, what will they paint different, what will they not paint at all, what stickers will they exclude.
Sometimes when Playmates re-releases vintage Turtles stuff, the skimp on paint or leave out stickers.
But screw it. I'll take a chance. I pre ordered one.
This is a vintage vehicle I never had as a kid. And even now, all the vintage TMNT figures I have, I don't have the Technodrome.
@therealsmallville thanks! I've been pretty much checking daily for the Technodrome to go live and I'm glad I got a preorder in.
As of this morning, it lists as temporarily out of stock, but I was still able to place an order. Hope it’s the real deal and it goes through. Never had this one as a kid. Wouldn’t mind a reissue of the drill module or the flying Cadillac.
BBTS has a four pack of reissues available to preorder.. I already have Mutagen Man, but I’m all about Slash, Rat King, and Casey Jones!
They definitely need to do the Drill Mutant Module. It goes with the Technodrome playset, so it would be great to have.
I really wish they'd re-release Krangs Android Body.
The fact that Super7 was able to recently release their Krang in android body tells me that Playmates likely had no immediate plans for a re-release, but they would be stupid not to. So many would buy it just to have an intact antenna on the top of the head.
As long as this stuff keeps selling expect to see Playmates reissue a lot of it. Maybe not that fast, especially if they have a ton of merch planned for the new Paramount+ series, but it has to be easy money for them. Hopefully the Technodrom reissue turns out well. If it's like the Party Wagon, it will be pretty faithful to the vintage release just likely missing some decals and there could be some very rubbery plastic used in places (like the two feet that fold out), but as long as they include all of the pieces and don't mess with the eye decals, I think people will be pleased.
Well, and remember, for the blimp "reissue" they even used the glider from the 2012 blimp, so it wasn't even really what was on the box.
Watch this be the Out of the Shadows version in the old plastic's colors, lol. With no paint or stickers.

You just scared actual p*** out of my body.
The new figure re-issues, unless I'm missing something, seem to be a LOT closer to the vintage figures than some of the early re-issues. Maybe Playmates is learning that you can't re-issue a toy based entirely on nostalgia and make it objectively worse in every way?
I'm actually tempted to grab the new ones - I've always liked Casey, Slash, and Mutagen Man. Those are three of the figures I still have from the Super7 debacle.
It does seem that way KnightDamien. And I hope that holds true, especially with this Classic Technodrome.
I love the Playmates reissues and have been picking up a lot of the stuff I don't have in vintage form. It's still definitely a mixed bag though. The last set I picked up was the Movie Star turtles. They look great but Playmates gave them all the same body and accessories (aside from their key weapons). Meanwhile the Super Hero set is pretty much dead-on as far as I can tell. The accessories are different colors than the vintage ones but I'm ok with that, it helps keep them from being passed off as vintage on the secondary market. But then I see Baxter and Wingnut at Target and they're both missing key paint.
So yeah, good and bad. I'm sure they have a budget they need to hit with every figure and that's why some are pretty much perfect and others are lacking. I still think they're fantastic for the price either way and I really hope they continue with it and release some figures they haven't yet.
@mikeysee I think, and no offense here, that it's overly kind to offer even the hint of an excuse by mentioning budget. And if I ever heard anyone from Playmates so much as whisper about hitting a budget with these I would honestly knock their teeth out right there. These molds have paid for themselves a thousand times over already. Playmates could likely charge the original '91 price tag and STILL make money. So they can fuck off if their excuse for missing paint hits or accessories is 'well, the budget, you guys!'
They're just lazy and bad at making toys, and have been for decades now. Even these re-issues, while welcome, are the most lazy, cynical cash-grabs because they can't even bother, more often than not, to do it WELL.
I wouldn't give them too much credit yet, at least, if this is the final figure we get for Rat King:
And Mutagen Man is missing claw paint (that's easy to fix at least):
Yikes! That Rat King looks rough.
Damn, that Rat King is nothing like the solicitation. I already have a vintage carded one so I don't care too much, but I hope that Casey and Slash aren't that bad. If so, I'll have to cancel my order.
