People are over the turtle 4-packs for $150 at retail.   I've seen the punk turtles several times now, at most stores I've checked, and I haven't even been out much.  Maybe they sell slowly and it's fine.  But the other Haulathon-type stuff is flying off the shelves and these 4-packs are def not.  It's been super easy to find, and sometimes the only thing left.  It is not what the people want; specifically this "Punk turtles" 4-pack.

My biggest issue with the Punks is their new lower face sculpts.

I know the animation sucked for most of the series, but I don't want my figures to look sh***y, too. 😆

Which sucks, because we totally needed more expressions for the TiD heads, but even if they did match, color-wise (and they do not), they're still fugly. And making all of the new Turtles not match any of the previous releases' skin colors is an even bigger misstep, because it removes the incentive for mixing & matching for those who have previous releases.

I love Mikey's darker green, though. It just leaves me with a brownish Donnie away from my ideal Turtle skin colors (TiD matte Leo, Style Guide Raph, and Pizza Club Mikey don't match the vintage Playmates perfectly, but enough for my personal satisfaction). I'm super tempted to try to add irises to their eyes, but my hands were shaky before arthritis started setting in in my early 20s, and I'm in my early 40s now & can barely write my own name with a pen on paper. But man, if I can get the 2012 eye colors (Leo & Mikey - blue, Raph - green, Donnie - brown) on top of the vintage Playmates skin colors, those are my ideal Turtles right there.

I mean, you can use the new turtles that came out with everything else, but you'll need the full set of them, because they don't match previous turtles.  But you can use old turtles in a display, new turtles in separate display, etc.

@nothing  I think there's a good reason why the Punk Turtles set isn't flying off shelves well beyond just 'it's a lot of money.' NECA Turtles collectors have proved time and again they will throw money at TMNT stuff.

I think there's two issues here; the first is very similar but different just bare pricing. Rather, it's that it's a lot of money -specifically for one-off (two-off?) episode variants-. Do people want the Punk Turtles bad -enough- to spend that kind of money or is it the type of thing that everyone says 'oh, that's neat' but doesn't actually buy unless they're really hardcore into the line?

The other issue is the (IMO) misstep with the heads. There isn't a compelling reason to make the lower faces not swappable on the sunglasses heads. I'd be all over that set if I could have the sunglasses with different expressions. But from everything I've seen - you can't do that. The sunglasses heads are a solid piece. So NECA takes this great, innovative thing they've done with the newer Turtles, and opts to not use it because they don't want a visible line there or something? Silliness.

Give the Turtles their weapons (on the original Usagi box-art, Punk Leo is literally holding his swords, guys), make ALL the heads have swappable expressions. Maybe throw in a couple more expressive hands. And I bet people would have been a lot more interested.

The Punk Turtles were an easy pass for me. Frankly there is so many really good Turtle sets out right now, I am overloaded and had to cut back. It's a good problem to have. But this is a niche set.  Cool for those that are all in on the toon line, but very skippable for everyone else.

Punk Turtles sold out around here. The store down the road has gotten probably 7 total and they all moved (plus the one I bought). And the set sold out at the other two Targets in the city that I've been to.  The price ain't great, but I don't think the set has too much trouble moving.  I don't think it's as much of a "necessity" set though, so the amount of people wanting it are probably lower.

Man, I'm glad I'm not interested in any of this stuff because I haven't seen any of it at my store.  I always check just because it's fun to see new stuff even if you're not buying and all I've found is Evil Rex.

That's crazy that the punk set doesn't match the TiD figures.  That's a real Super7-style blunder right there.

I'm also not seeing the set linger in my area. I would suspect the Punk Turtles set isn't as in-demand as the original Turtles in Disguise set and I'd actually be shocked if it were. It's probably around the same level of popularity as the others though. The re-issue Turtles in Disguise hung around in my area for a couple of weeks, maybe an entire month, but that's it. The style guide redo from a past Haulathon would hang out a bit here and there, but sold within the month. I've seen this set at Target a couple of times, but it's always gone when I return. The online sale lasted awhile, but I think it eventually sold out as well. Turtles sell, they just don't vanish the second they hit the shelf which is a good thing. I think NECA is doing a reasonable job of estimating demand for the past few four-packs, including the Mirage one, where it seems like most people are able to get it without much hassle. I am pretty interested in seeing how the Pizza Club editions sell online, assuming they get put up. I was expecting those to be the most popular figures for this event and so far they seem to be.

Pizza Club has been selling faster in stores than Punk disguise, but then they also were only packing one of each at some stores for a while.

I still would like to get the new Bebop and Rocksteady set, but folks on FB were saying it won't be on the website because apparently it's not part of haulathon.  🙁

So feel free to disagree with me if you want (it’s the internet, disagreeing with strangers is among it’s top 3 purposes!) but I don’t think the Punk/Pizza Club Turtles are so different in color their mouths can’t be used with the TiD Turtles.

Maybe it’s my eyes, maybe it’s the lighting in my room, and don’t get me wrong it’s definitely a different shade… but I put the closed TiD mouth on Punk Leo and the two side teeth growling Punk mouth of TiD Leo, and if I didn’t tell you “the colors aren’t an exact match” you wouldn’t notice.

again, your mileage may very, just saying if you have the TiD and don’t want to buy a pizza club Turtle to use more expressions on nude Turtles, you might also find it’s good enough

@doc-baghead gonna have to strongly disagree. My pic makes it look better than it does in person, but Leo looks like he spent the entire summer wearing a baseball hat and just took it off. I think if you swap the whole head, just having the dome and mouth match looks okay even with the body being a little different. I personally wouldn't display any of my Turtles in Disguise figures with an original top of the head and new bottom and vice versa.

One thing you can do with a little persistence is swap bandanas so if you have a Turtles in Disguise set and buy Pizza Club Michelangelo and want some angry eyes, you can swap between the two. Per the one YouTube video I watched on it (Nostalgia Unboxed), the new head parts might have some glue behind the bandana, but it's nothing that can't be pried apart still. The old sets weren't glued. And as I mentioned before, Dark Turtle can basically use any mouth you want.

I've skipped out on the toon line in the past because I never found the brothers in store. Yesterday, I came across a lone Pizza Club Leo in Target and bought it. Today, I went to another Target and the rep was building the display, so I grabbed the other 3. Talk about sheer luck. May just call it quits at this point. The toon line is a slippery slope and there are tons of figures to collect.

I've seen both Leo and Raph at my store, but Mike's the one I need.  Unless the Raph that I got from the Bullseye Store ends up being broken or swapped or something.  Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Otherwise, just need to catch the Bebop and Rocksteady re-release and my Haulathon is complete.

And THEN all I need is a Shredder update/re-release and my toon collection is complete.

One thing I'll say based entirely on other peoples' photos is that the new turtles and the old turtles are WILDLY different colors. But I'll also quickly point out that I'm colorblind, and so I see colors differently than the majority of people. So I recognize the possibility that whatever tonal value or whatever I see could be further apart while the colors themselves are closer? I don't know guys, I'm not a fuckin' scientist. But to -me-, those colors are so markedly different that I would probably notice the difference in a dark room.
