Looks like the only toon stuff for this week's online Haulathon drop is the Punk 4-pack. Otherwise it's three different Mirage Foot figures.
Forgive my ignorance, but do all the Usagi releases fall under the cartoon banner, or are they their own separate thing?
Ignorant fool!
Lol, nah, you're good.
If there's a Turtles logo, it does. So, this Samurai Usagi, and the previous Space Usagi.
The "Year of the Rabbit" 4-pack, did not have said logo, so it does not count (maybe because of the Stan-style Usagi in the box?).
Thank you both! I did pick up Samurai Usagi. He was just too damn cute to leave on the peg.
I just love that except for the main head, they've managed to do a completely unique facial expression for all of the alternate Usagi heads.
I have them all on display (Stan-style with Mirage), but only one as Miyamoto Usagi, and not a single one is sharing a headsculpt.
My favorite face/outfit is either the single pack Space or 4-pack Samurai (that red & blue just sings). Even more than "regular" (which, I put the original head on the 4-pack brighter body).
Got the Leo and Don that I managed to catch off hte Target eBay deals page. 25% off and free shipping, and there doesn't seem to be a thing wrong with them other than some dented packaging which is of no matter to me. Also was able to catch a Raph listing earlier today, so now I'm just down to needing Mikey and the Bebop/Rocksteady 2-pack as far as toon stuff for this Haulathon.
Raph's back up with "more than 10 available" if you hurry!

The 25% comes off once he's in your cart.
EDIT: Gone. Lasted maybe 10 minutes, not bad. Could be more later.
So, for someone who only has the original two pack toon figures (eg, the repackaged SDCC 8 pack), what are the "new" turtle bodies like when you compare their articulation? I seem to recall hearing that at some point, NECA made some articulation upgrades to the base body, and am curious if it's worth trying to track one down to get a more poseable turtle to go in the display.
I still vastly prefer the headsculpts on those first release version, where there isn't some big sculpt cut across their nose, and their eyes aren't super cartoony, but there's something to be said for the more cartoon look too.
The Ultimates versions have me tempted if I could track down one or two.
@karl_space NECA has made only incremental updates to those turtle bodies, none of which really add much to how well they pose. They got rid of this hinge and pin hips in favor of ball-sockets which maybe give a bit more thigh swivel, but mostly are just less prone to breaking. They also swapped out the ball-socket ankles in favor of hinged pegs with proper ankle rockers. An improvement, but not a hugely impactful one. Heads have a bit more clearance now because of the head shape difference. That's pretty much it though. Leo and Raph still come with the vertical hinged wrists while Don and Mikey have the horizontal hinge for their gripping hands.
Cool, thanks. Doesn't sound it's really worth replacing the ones I have now. Best to put that money to the Fury toys Samurai turtles which are a joy to pick up and pose, and the new Mikey sculpt looks to be even more fun.
It's amazing to me that we went from a time of zero collector TMNT figures to the overwhelming glut we have now, which is amazing, don't get me wrong. But it's a bummer that the closest we've got to some amazing modern toy versions of the brothers that mixes all eras and media into a be-all set of figures that are well articulated and fun to play with seems to be Mezco's $400 set, which has now skyrocketed in price after it took everyone by surprise.
I'd kill for some non-media specific versions of TMNT from one of the real companies. Maybe similar to what Mondo did with their 1:12 versions years ago. A mix of comics, toys, cartoons, and movies all distilled down into the core of the characters would be amazing. I guess it would be the Super7 Ultimates, but with actually decent articulation?
Yeah, even with all that is out there’s still some room for a super-articulated set of turtles. The Bandai ones are pretty spectacular, but very much in a toon style. It would be great if another company ripped-off the design of the articulation but applied it to a different era.
They got me. Went to Target and saw a wall of new Turtles stuff. Pizza Club, new two packs, 4 pack in punk disguises, all the new Foot Clan, you name it. Picked up Adventures of Usagi (the samurai version), since I never found the other version and looks sort of like the old toy if you use the included extra set of ears.
Really like him, but I cant get the lower portion of his left knee to bend- any advice? I tried hot water, but no luck. I dont want to accidentally snap the upper knee joint trying to bend this…
@supreme_d if heat doesn't do it it may be paint that has gotten into the joint and dried. I usually stick the point of an exacto knife in to free up the joint. Sometimes you have to kind of wedge the joint apart a bit with it and it will usually free it up.
Concerning articulation on Turtles; I actually don't particularly care for the style of the knock-offs or even the Mezco ones, although I recognize I'm in the minority there. But what both products do really well is obliterate the Super7/NECA/Playmates position that the -design- of the Turtles inherently limits how you can articulate them and so they sort've 'need' to be low-ROM.
When it comes to the Turtle designs I care about most - it's always going to be the vintage toy designs. And boy howdy would I LOVE for someone to come along and make Mezco/Fury-type figures of those designs.
I broke down and ordered the Pizza Club set from Ali. So we'll see how that goes. I haven't even gotten the Cartoon Adventures 2-Pack yet. But Nostalgia Unboxed sold me on the PC turtles by showing that the bandanas can -technically- be pulled off and swapped around as well. Done. Need them. I've got plans.
What did arrive today is Usagi. The original cartoon version. Never saw him locally or anything. In package he looks great and I'm almost 100% certain he's legit. I've had a few knock-offs in my time and this isn't a knock-off, I'd say. However, I didn't open him yet. He's actually for my son. With many of the lines I collect, I like for my son to get his own stuff for the collection as well. Unprompted, he's always pointing out Usagi when I'm looking at peoples' collections or reviews or whatever. He's asked me for this one a few times so I'm putting it away for his birthday in a couple of months.
Let's see if I can wait that long to let him open it up.
