I used to be embarrassed by buying toys. I remember having excuses in my head prepared just in case I was questioned at the register. Maybe it’s because I’m approaching my 40s but I’ve come to accept who I am and don’t let it bother me anymore.
I also know that people really don’t care near as much as you think they do about what you do. The person checking me out at the register isn’t going to remember me 10 minutes later.
I've been going back and forth on the new Pizza Club Turtles and two things are really bugging me. The first is that they went ahead and made that cool new actiony accessory for Donatello, but took away the one they already made for Mikey. Like.. why? I know these aren't being sold as 'ultimate' versions of the characters, but that doesn't mean you need to intentionally make them less desirable than they could be, right?
And that kind of goes to my larger problem; NECA did a pretty poor job of making sure these figures work together. The reality is that these aren't really a release for people that already have Turtles, right? If even the faces were swappable with all the previous versions (they're clearly not). So you've got happy or worried Leo, serious/angry Don, VERY angry or mildly outraged/shocked Raph, and happy Mikey. They feel like very separate releases meant to be different places in a display. But like.. how many people are buying the Turtles to display them all in different places doing different things?
It's only particularly off-putting because of how easy it would have been to make sure they all head an extra head that tonally matched the other figures. So everyone gets an angry head, or everyone gets a happy head, or whatever. I really don't understand why they'd choose to do it this way. Again, you can't use the 'they want you to buy all the previous versions' argument because you can't even mix-and-match with all the previous figures.
Leo was so close to being perfect in terms of being able to fit in with 'relaxed' or 'action' scenes, but then they went and gave his serious/angry eyes the all-red 'evil' treatment and completely ruined it.
The fact that they don’t fit in with the previous turtles is completely deliberate. I feel that they are also not as confident in some of their other releases like the Samurai Mike / Astronaut Don, Punk Turtles, and whatever future turtle releases may be. Most of us have turtles already. Not everyone needs every turtle. They essentially released a main new buck for each turtle with the pizza club versions and they want to catch as many of us as they can with their net for other turtle releases so we can get more heads/hands etc. They want to make sure we buy new product. The pizza club versions are begging for more faces and they know they got those of us wanting more locked in. It sucks, but it will work for a lot of us.
I have mixed feelings about the new shade of green, mostly because I know they are putting the squeeze on us. The pizza club turtles are lacking and it’s very intentional.
At least, I'm HOPING all that other stuff that showed up in Target's system is for the next event.... because I'd have to tap out otherwise. lol
What else is there for Toon in Target's system right now besides Vacation Rocksteady and Bebop?
@catromaji I store my accessories in one of these: https://super7.com/products/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-reaction-figures-carry-case-with-michelangelo-metallic?variant=39450247430277
I have almost everything in the toon line and I'm just now running out space in it. It's sold out in most places now as it's from a few years ago, but it's still out there for about 45-50 bucks in most places. I'm tempted to buy another, but I could probably get the same amount of storage out of a tackle box for a lot less money. It just wouldn't be TMNT themed (unless I seek such a thing out on ebay).
Got my AliExpress pizza club turtles today. About a week and and a half from shipping to delivery. The fastest yet for an AliExpress order for me.
Donnie's shoulders and elbows are a little stuck, but nothing beyond the odd for any regular NECA figure I've had before.
Same! My Pizza Turtles came today. One kind of stuck elbow, but then again so did the Baxter I got from Target. Seems legit. The April I ordered the same day for $20 from another seller hasn't arrived and when I click on tracking I get a "Page not found."
@salemcrow They're probably gone now, but link & price?
Even a little cheaper than when I bought them.
I've supposedly managed to snag Don and Leo off the Target eBay store today, but we'll see what I end up with! 25% off and free shipping!
So I’m not able to find any clear info on this…
do the Ultimate Turtles come with unique faces or are the same ones from the disguise set and the main draw here is just the little buddies and the tapes and the pizzas?
Target had toon Leo today as far as Haulathon stuff goes, but since I (hopefully) got him on eBay, I skipped it. No Bebop/Rocksteady, which is what I was really looking for. What's the price on B/R now, by the way? $55, $60? Need to gauge whether it's worth it once it hopefully pops up on ali.
I got my order from Ali with April. She seems legit. Joints are a bit loose, but that also means none were stuck. The only "problem" I saw was that some of the plastic tie thingies weren't in properly.
I ended up ordering the cartoon adventures two-pack from Ali. Hasn't even shipped yet so... who knows how this is going to go. I expect it's way too early for this to be an actual bootleg, so the real question is whether or not it'll ever show up.
Also made a separate order from a different store for cartoon Usagi for my son. That one shipped almost right away and has already made it through customs.
Still couldn't bring myself to order the Pizza Club Turtles since all four comes to around 260 Canadian and I still don't know how I feel about them.
I stopped at an out-of-the-way Target today because I had to drive my mom to the airport. Jackpot!
Found 3 of the 4 pizza turtles and some other stuff on the shelf today. Having never held, or even really seen, the new pizza turtles in-hand before, I couldn't resist. They were really impressive. AND IT'S THE REGULAR TURTLES which you never see or find. So I bought those three, and that's my quota for this month.
It's pretty wild paying $150 for these sets these days. I didn't even get much of what I wanted. It's still fun scoring though, and so is hunting.
