Ah, out of context examples to support one's argument...
The bowing was on the prototype, which they acknowledge was something they needed to fix before putting it up for preorder/sale.
I have no hands-on experience with Ramen Toys, but the notion that you can’t make a plastic topper that will perform as expected for such a thing is laughable. When Trevor talks about it, what he’s really saying is they couldn’t find a material that fit within their budget, so they went foamboard. Doesn’t mean Ramen will deliver, but they should be able to if they want to. You just have to use a thicker, harder, plastic.
That's precisely it, right? And I'm not saying Trevor is lying, either. I just don't think that people who make toys for a living feel the need to qualify their statements about what is or isn't 'possible' to do. We all know MANY things are -possible- that don't happen with action figures because they'd be far more expensive to do.
But I will say this - FOR THE PRICE - it seems like a better solution could and should have been found versus using foamboard. It's not even that the foam is a bad idea. It's more that it feels a bit more like a shoulder-shrug 'good enough' kind of solution that's a little beneath a product you're asking this much money for, from a company with this kind of pedigree.
Here's a quick possibility just from someone that isn't a toy maker; Two straps that plug on to the top of the sewer's shorter walls running across the width of the top. The top would be totally flat, so the street can sit on top of them, but the underside would be sculpted like shallow pipes or whatever. Not only does that add some detail to the ceiling space, but the thickness would allow those pieces to kind of act like girders/I-beams in real life construction. The thickness/shape would allow them to drastically resist bowing themselves, which would mean the street sitting on top of them couldn't bow either.
It's a little more plastic, paint, and sculpting. But almost definitely is going to be more secure, more stable, and provide longer life to the toy than foamboard.
You know, a thick, hard piece of plastic might add a lot of cost (as if this set wasn't already way overprice), but how about instead a more thin layer of metal, or possibly even a hollow plastics with like metal pipes that are both decorative and provide support?
Got a shipping soon email from NECA on my Sewer Lair. It's coming out of Memphis. No movement on tracking (yet).
I got the email notification for my accessory set this morning. The old tracking number vanished from my FedEx app, so it's not the same number, just like the van.
Today I got an email from NECA stating that my accessory set is about to ship. I received the set a week ago.
The tracking number NECA sent for the Lair this morning is the same one that was created at FedEx two months ago.
I'll get more excited when it moves beyond label created.
I got my notice too, and it's a label created in Memphis just like the van was. This one was created in November 3, so maybe my lair will get here in February, if the van was any indication.
Question about the turtle van. When putting together the laser gun, once the parts are assembled can they be taken apart? Just in case I no longer wanted to display and put everything back in the trays and into the box. Thanks for any replies.
Yes, they can be taken apart and the van can be re-boxed if needed.
I'm ready for the Turtle Lair to get here already!
Remember, they're unvaulting things in 35 minutes! I don't need anything Toon, though (already grabbed the April they threw up in November, just waiting for her to ship).
$10 flat shipping tells me there's no way the Toon street scene will appear in this sale, but one can hope.
I'm hoping for the 1990 Movie Accessory Set myself (which went up WITH the Toon Street Diorama - in the middle of the global pandemic lockdown). At least today.
I get paid at the end of this week or beginning of next week (the 15th being a holiday is causing my uncertainty), so I'd prefer to not have to spend THAT much until then lol.
Just some Xenos this time, and the Django Unchained set (which sold out immediately). Wallet is safe.
