Yet they keep making versions of the Turtles to get out there. It's not a corporate blunder at all, it's honestly showing how well off the line is that we even have that many secondary and third tier characters. I think it's a bit silly to claim that.
No Turtles now, but to NECA's credit they've got the Punk Turtles and Ultimate Turtles on deck.
I just don't see them continuing this line for that much longer. I think they'd be wise to re-release a few of the main characters again, alongside the main Turtle re-releases. I'd like to pick up another Bebop and Rocksteady pack due to my Bebop breaking an ankle. They might pepper in some of the few remaining fan wants like Tempestra, but I think the days of obscure two-packs may be over for this line.
A lot of TMNT fans have moved on to the Mirage, Archie, and Last Ronin lines now and when on a budget, D-List toon characters just aren't going to compete with A & B list Mirage, etc. I think Neca knows that.
The new checklist has been released.
There doesn't appear to be any out-and-out new reveals, but we get clarification that the large Krang is not part of the 1/4 scale line and is indeed part of the normal line, so completionists will need to pick him up. Also, like I noticed before, the Pizza Club Edition Turtles do seem to have a different yellow front chest plate that helps differentiate them from earlier releases.
The checklist as a whole looks fantastic as a visual piece too, and we are getting plenty of versions of the four turtles being released soon that should help breathe new life back into the line for those that feel it has perhaps been slowly sagging a bit of late.

I completely disagree with this personally.

Hoping these ultimate Turtles are not impossible to get, and would definitely be in for an Ultimate Shredder and Ultimate Bebop and Rocksteady releases.

I'm hoping that they re-issue them regularly so that if anyone does find them difficult to find in Target initially, they aren't just a ''one and done'' release like so many of the other releases.
It would be great if each year they keep putting out these Pizza Club Turtles to allow new collectors to enter the line.
Pizza Club Turtles?
Pizza Club Turtles?
This is NECA's name for the upcoming 'ultimate' turtles. They're regarded as a new variant with a slightly different paint job to the earlier original cartoon versions.

I'm right there with you. I have some great secondary characters, but the Playmates turtles, Shredder, Bebop, and Rocksteady are in desperate need of an upgrade.

Is Pizza Club a reference to anything? We sure it isn't a new type of exclusive?
And as far as the longevity of the line, TMNT was always about the wacky fan favorite characters. The line is rather expansive to the point where it actually works having different turtles in the display as the variety of displays that can be created is pretty vast. I have turtles in the sewer lair, turtles in the van, turtles on the street set, etc. All these scenes can have various supporting characters alongside them. If NECA only did turtle variants, the. I would say it's in trouble.
This line still has plenty of life left in it. Especially now that the floodgates are open for Fred Wolf inspired looks.
For characters from the show I would still instantly buy...
- Tempestra
- Tiffany
- Shreeka
- Medusa
- Merdude
- Tattoo
- Lord Dregg
- Carter
- Captain Dredd
Then for Toon Inspired stuff the possibilities are just about endless. I'd instantly buy all of these just to name a few...
- Karai
- Venus
- Aska
- Jennika
- Pizzaface
- Scratch
- Tatsu
- Tora
- War
- Hothead
- Sisyphus
Not to mention turtle variants and figures that need re-do's.
to me the biggest redo this entire ine needs is the main villain of the show itself, Shredderis in DIRE need of a 2.0 fully original sculpt. The old mirage body with an overlay just doesnt cut it anymore and it better come with an unmasked head too, that would get me to buy 2
Veebs' interview with Trevor is up. I haven't watched the whole thing, just a bit of the Toon section.
He does mention a new Shredder coming next year that sounds like a redo or update. And he mentions a new Bebop and Rocksteady, but it's a little unclear if it's an update or just a new variant look?
Also mentions they're doing the tooling for Donnie's lab.
I've pretty much said my piece. I don't think it's worth the asking price. I definitely don't like that it has a pair of stickers or that the foamboard isn't flush, but it will probably get the job done for those who did grab it.
Agreed. It looks really cool and fun, but not at the price they're charging. I know it's fucking tedious as shit to have someone sit there naming off other things they think are similar that cost a different amount of money or whatever, so I'm not going to do that. But I -could-, pretty easily.
I think there's a deeper problem here where companies kind of decide where their pricing structure is and that's where they live, regardless of the value. 'We make 50 dollar action figures.' There's not necessarily any guidelines in what MAKES a figure worth 50 dollars. You've just decided that whatever you make, that's what you're going to charge. And everything else you design builds off of that.
TMNT is easily NECA's biggest line ever, so I'm not even willing to consider the 'small company' aspect of pricing.
I definitely feel like NECA decided what this was going to cost based mostly on a percentage or scaling game, rather than what it's actually worth and what's gone into it. It's a big shell (no pun intended) with a little paint and some accessories. You will not convince me that this thing is orders of magnitude more complicated to design than a figure. And since raw materials right now are much cheaper than tooling and labour, you also won't convince me that 'it has a lot more plastic than 10 figures' because even if that's true (I don't think it is), that wouldn't even really matter.
Barely any assembly required by the factory. The top of the dio is a 24-cent piece of foamboard.
Where is the gigantic cost in this thing? Tooling? That's it.
But it's BIG. And even if it's mostly a big open space, the size of it allows a mental justification that it -should- cost a lot more than what value it actually presents. All in my opinion, at least.
