I wonder how a Death Star set would go, centered around the Hangar bay they held the Falcon in. Make it big enough for the BMF and add other locations as tiers that could be arranged around the Hangar as you please; Ben's tractor beam work station and Luke/Leia's canyon swing, Palpy's throne room, a Command Deck where Vader interviewed the bounty hunters, and a prison deck. Screw the canonicity of it and make it a generic Imperial Installation to be used for any scene focused on the Imps.
This is the 4th Vintage HasLab and the 2nd focused on Tatooine. Spread the love around, Hasbro.

A nice idea, but if the Cantina is $400-$500, I would hate to see what they would have to charge for something big enough to house the BMF and be reasonable accurate to the movies.
I am thinking that all the teams at Hasbro will be watching this Haslab to see what happens. This is the first "playset" only Haslab to be done. Other Haslabs have been vehicles, that can double as playsets, so it wasn't a specific idea of "playset" being sold. I know in various ML threads I see people talking about doing a Danger Room /X-Mansion type of playset as a Haslab. Or some form of the original GI Joe headquarters. Both of which I would love to see, but if the Cantina struggles with funding I could see the other teams take a step back from any thought of doing a playset as a Haslab.
It'd be cool, to me, if Hasbro adopted some form of modular set designs so we could get large playsets/etc piecemeal.
IE: Design a Death Star and split it into quadrants. Sell each quadrant (or whatever #) throughout the year with the intended goal that if you bought all of them over time you could then assemble a massive Death Star, if you wanted. (Or display them separately, or in halves, or whatever)
Could be used for the Terrordome, Joe HQ, Aircraft Carrier. Whatever.
Of course Hasbro would have to be dedicated to following through. It'd suck if they sold 3/4 of a product and then ditched it. hah.

One issue working against the Cantina is that there wasn't a whole lot of action that happened there. Ben's sword-cut of Ponda's arm and Han shooting Greedo, with every other moment just people standing around and talking. It's basically the same issue Jabba's Throne Room has, it's literally not got much play value beyond being an extravagant figure stand, imho.
And yeah, a 4-section plastic re-do of the Palitoy DS would be a fantastic HasLab project, imho.
@kvhulk I don't know how it did overall, but the Tantive hallway set they released didn't move much around me, even at discounted pricing. I can still snag it online for relatively cheap, at least cheaper than retail here (Canada). That was an attempt to provide modular design sets and it seems to have just fallen flat.
I would love a colllect and connect style playset, but there are just too many variables to account for that I think it would inevitably suffer the same fate as the Tantive hallway.
@adrienveidt Yep, and I would argue that Jabba's Throne Room was a more dynamic set during the film. Lots of creatures and a more universal interaction with most of the denizens participating, even if it was just watching.
I think GI Joe had some of the best, and most interactive playsets of any line. However most of them were "vehicles" rather than playsets. I would love a new Terrordrome or Headquarters but size would probably make a lot of choices too expensive.
Also a lot of playset choices have the issue of not only being static but, as you said, they are basically glorified display stands. Also I have some people complain about no floor or roof for the Cantina, but I saw someone talking about this and they made a good point. If you put a roof on it then how do you see what you are displaying?

Well that is a nice little bump. Glad to see it get a bit of a boost. Still a long way to go, but basically 70% funded right now.
Very tempted by this, but trying to downsize and not sure where I would put it. But nearly perfect for those who have all the Cantina patrons from over the years. Will likely cave and get it.
@fac it’s modular! It can be displayed in small sections or as the entire cantina. You sprinkle alcoves over a couple of shelves, have a bar centerpiece, or any combination that fits your display area. Hasbro’s pictures haven’t sold that idea very well but their live streams have shown that off better. I suspect not knowing how customizable this is is holding a lot of people back. That’s on Hasbro for it conveying that clearer on the Haslab page.

But, but, but.......there's no floor!!!! 😆
That video they did with Shootingthegalaxy where they did exactly what you said was great for clearly displaying those options. Like you said, I don't know why they haven't added something like that, even just pictures, to the main Haslab page. Maybe they want the shots from Shootingthegalaxy, and really can you blame them? I mean he does great photos all around.
Either way it is on track to fund, but the tiers might be tough
Get out of the way Greedo!!!! Where's Han when you need him?
Coming Spring 2025!
I'm seriously thinking of dropping TVC altogether but this is tempting and looks very nicely done - though I wish there was some type of floor. It can be flat so the pieces can stay modular, but for $500, there should be a floor.
However, the part that tempts me the most is the entryway - I like the look of that and want to use that in displays. But if I sell everything off I wouldn't need it at all.
It's really hard deciding to drop a figure line you've collected - oh $#!t! - for 29 years!
well they might do something like they did with the Skystriker where there was a runway printed on the box
the floor could be printed on the box
@buttmunch Yeah, I get the modular part - if I went for the full deluxe version, I'd need to fudge the "real" layout and have the two "walls" be more perpendicular than parallel I think. So maybe the non-deluxe would be enough. I'm not sure I'd like t across multiple shelves.
Its more that I need to have my collection to take up a lot less space, so I am trying to be ruthless about downsizing after being a completist for 3 3/4-inch SW from 1978 to 2015 or so. Meaning adding at this point feels like an addict relapsing. But items like this are so tempting though. as its one of those "I've always wished they made it" things.
