@ru1977 This just made me realize I'd completely forgotten that was kinda canon and not just a fan theory based on everyone thinking "him? But Zaddy Kenobi is RIGHT THERE."

@docsilence I think I originally saw something about it in the novelization. I think ROTS was also the first time I ever read a novelization of a movie before seeing the movie. So I already had it in my head that Anakin would outright accuse her of hooking up with Obi-Wan, as well as the conversation between Yoda and Qui-Gon Jinn toward the end, before I went to the theater. That bad is at least a little mine since I didn't go into the movie cold etc.

If I'm not mistaken, and earlier script for RotS had the whole "Anakin thinks his wife is stepping out with his mentor" thing, but it was abandoned in later rewrites.

Which makes sense it was in the novel since the author probably had an early script to work from.

@ru1977 I looked it up as well and it does seem to be obvious in a few different sources, if not in the films. I actually like the idea - that as his contact with the Dark Side grows, all the worst tendencies in him, jealousy, rage, distrust, would bubble up and ruin the best parts of his life. But I also find it funny that it's been as solid couple of decades where I thought that was just a fan theory I liked, no memory of it being in anything official!

@docsilence that is funny, but not strange when there is soooo much out there.

Well, when ever they get around to remaking the movies (which I still feel confident will happen one day), maybe they'll play that aspect up more. But yeah, it's definitely something that ties in well with his dark siding. And makes total sense with how much he hates Obi Wan for the rest of his life. Even after Obi Wan is gone, Vader still wallows in it. ("His failure it now complete!" Etc)

I gotta say, the ROTS novelization by Matthew Stover was, and still is, one of my favorite novels- not just of a movie script, but in general. He really added so much to the story and script; it's part of why I love Grievous so much- he really gave him a lot of character that was left out of the movie. I'd reccommend it to any Star Wars fan who hasn't read it

@joshsquash729 I haven't read it in ages, but remember enjoying it immensely. I went on Wiki to read up on it, and they have a handy 'how it differs from the movie' section which brought back a lot of the things I'd wished to see on screen. Some you can't because the novel can do inner dialogue obviously, but some of the plot points he did that weren't in the film were really great ideas.

The other one I remember really enjoying was Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader. I couldn't even tell you what happened in that book except, I think, it was where Kenobi learned his apprentice survived Mustafar before Disney bought Star Wars. I think it also showed Kenobi finally communicating with Qui-Gon, so his show hit some of those beats.

Yeah, I always thought it was the assault by Anakin that led to complications with the birth of the twins that killed Padme. A whole dark twist thing - he went to the dark side to save her but he was the eventual reason for her death.

I'd be fine with that.  So why did that medical droid say it couldn't explain why she died and that she had simply lost the will to live?  Pregnancy complications sound like something the droid would have been able to detect.

There are plenty of people who have lost the will to live who linger on for years or decades in nursing homes and hospice centers.  Doesn't make sense.

The Shmi thing was just handled poorly from the start. I kept waiting to hear later in the movie or in ROTS that the sand people were acting on Sidious' behalf or something. Makes no sense to me that they just randomly grab people and haul them around to torture them. Of course it makes even less sense that she was just left a slave after Phantom Menace.

Completely agree--particularly about the sandpeople torturing Shmi.  Given that he seemed to be grooming Anakin as a Sith from a young age I also wondered how many of his life events were controlled by Palpatine.

I think the most popular theory is the one where Palpatine drains Padmes life force to keep Anakin alive. But, with the emotional stress of everything that happened to her, and then being choked out, and then having to also give birth, it very well likely could be her body just gave out. Extreme stress I believe can complicate labor, to the point of killing both the mother and/or baby(s). And not all droids are made well lol.
