Shush! My credit card would go through thermonuclear meltdown if Hasbro did that.
Itβs not in Hasbroβs best interest to put out the best version of a character, because then they lose potential future sales. You see it in every line they put out, from Star Wars to Transformers to GI Joe to Marvel.
Yeah, of course. It's at the core of Capitalism; keep them buying. But as Norm correctly points out - there won't ever be a 'best' because of ongoing improvements in technology and manufacturing. So Hasbro isn't at risk with evergreen properties of running out of Wolverines or Vaders to make. So you have to weigh that against how many they actually try to get us to buy. There's a difference between 'keep them buying' and 'viciously take advantage of them.'
In my opinion. But I'm notoriously unsympathetic to the desires of the uber-wealthy and their corporations. Although, frankly, it IS in Hasbro's best interests to foster a good relationship with their consumers since those people are how they stay in business. If people spend long enough feeling taken advantage of, that's not good for your company or its shareholders.
Isn't the overall goal of humanity and society to eventually improve what came before it? There's never going to be the best version of any toy or figure because eventually there will be methods to improve it that didn't previously exist, or they didn't have the means to at the time. This is the way.
But that's not what we're talking about. Because the issue isn't that technology and manufacturing improves, so Hasbro uses that technology to create a figure that's better than what they did before. The issue is that Hasbro intentionally subverts this process by choosing which steps forward and which steps -backward- to put into each figure to make SURE it's never the definitive version you can get for the technology/manufacturing of the time.
I heard a while back that, technically, we know how to make a lightbulb that lasts forever (don't know if it's true, I'm no scientist). But it wouldn't be a good business venture to sell that, so they make one that only lasts X amount of hours so that people will keep buying more. That's any business, really.
If this is a subject that interests you, and just the general state of throw-away-Capitalism; here's a great video. The lightbulb issue is discussed very early on as well.
New Reveals!Β I don't care about that version of Mace, and I don't care about Clone Troopers very much either. Especially not the cornucopia of lollipop flavors they come in. But I'm happy to see a (more accurate?) Paz. I sold my original one during the Great Purge and I've been hankering for a new one.
Β
I don't mean to come off as terribly melodramatic but every single Hasbro Pulse showoffathon that has a Star Wars panel where Lobot and/or Nien Nunb isn't shown off is a bleak, existential tragedy of near Wagnerian depths.
That seems pretty reasonable.
@theknightdamienΒ I think that might have actually been the video I saw. I don't fully remember, but it feels familiar. I went down a bit of a rabbit hole that day with Capitalism and the like. 🤣Β
Well, I was not on my game yesterday. I missed the 1027 stream and then missed the pre-order for the Mace 2 pack. That's fine, though. I mostly wanted Mace, but I can live without him, having already gotten the previous Clone Wars Mace.
I agree- the packs would be a cool way to get us new Jedi as well, but I don't want them to be 2 pack exclusives. Maybe a few new parts for a CW version, or if they have to make an exclusive version, one of the lesser known Jedi like Tsui Choi or something; something akin to the old Order 66 2 packs from back in the day would be cool, but I agree- the best implementation of the Clones of the Republic line would be new Clones. New paint schemes- I'd take a Kashyyyk Scout Trooper, or new helmet designs- Airborne trooper, etc. Would be a good way of getting us notable Clones without using up a slot from another subline (though that doesn't really matter to me). Give me Bacara, give me Mayday, give me all them yummy Clones.

Some product and pipeline reveals from MCM, via YakFace.
Anakin and Padme look pretty good! Wouldn't surprise me to see a Podracing Anakin down the line.
Stoked for the ROTS Palpatine reveal. About dang time. Hope he comes with a regular Palpatine head as well, so we can have either version. I hope we see a fair amount of stuff for ROTS' 20th anniversary. More clones, more Jedi. At the rate we're going, they're just gonna hold Ki-Adi over until then.Β
Enoch and some Night Troopers got revaled for TVC, so hopefully it's only a matter of time before we get them for BS.
EDIT- whoops. Not sure what happened with the other 2 links posting properly. But if you click them, it'll take ya to the photo.
Yeah, the clone set made me a tiny bit nostalgic for those target sets they did for the 3 3/4" line with a Jedi and clone, but at this point I really only want Bacara and an Airborne trooper. And I'll take almost any version of an Airborne trooper anymore..doesn't have to be orange. Do a 501st one, I don't care. Just. Do. It.
Ani and Padme do look good... wonder if we'll get a reissue or new/improved Obi Wan, Qui Gon and Maul to go with them.
Β
Β
That would be really smart. I never got Obi-Wan or Qui-Gon, so that's kinda keeping me from grabbing these. If I could order those two, it would massively increase the chances of me ordering these.
Yeah, especially in this Padme outfit I'd only get her if I could display her with Qui Gon and Obi Wan when they go back to reclaim her palace.Β
Will they do a deluxe handmaiden version of that Padme? Same body with three heads?
I went for years waiting for Senate Duel Sidious in the original TVC run, and getting him finally in the Black Series is such a cathartic moment. It's my favorite look of his and no wonder TCW used it for his Maul/Oppress duel.
First star wars post since the retcon. Got commander Appo, itβs my first standard clone figure (my other clone is Echo from Clone Wars). I really appreciate the articulation in the figure, and I hope they make some standard clones available as troop builders because itβs common sense. Short of that, releasing clones with their commanders seems like the next best option to get some new versions of the sculpt out.
Also- went and dug my Walmart Jedi Knight Luke out of storage for my current display. I forgot his tunic doesnt go low enough. Bought Lightcruiser Luke to replace him and go next to the Dark Trooper on the shelf.
My last few figures have been impressive. Overpriced, but impressive. Black Series is kinda killing it lately.
Β
I really liked the reveals.Β Always happy about anything Prequel Trilogy, and there was plenty of it.Β EP III Darth Sidious I have wanted for ages.Β Now I just need Black Series Palpatine from his Office Duel with the Jedi.
That Expanded Universe 3 Pack was a nice surprise as well, and I guess from what was said on Yakface, there may be more EU figures in 2024 than just that pack.
Still, and I think I say it about once a month....... we need more Prequel Jedi!Β UNLEASH THE FURY!!
Kyle Katarn better be on the short list. And Dash Rendar. Jacen and Anakin Solo. Darth Talon. Darth Krayt. Shit I know they won't make em all... sad panda...
Is the Archive Bo Katan any different then the original release? Like, more accurate in any way, shape, or form? Or is it literally the same figure? I bought a couple GI Joe Origins Snake Eyes Scarlet figures for cheap for the heads and I wanna put one on a Bo Katan body and paint it up as a custom Mando character. So if the Archive one is different in any way I'll wait till it comes out and grab that and use the old figure for my custom. If not I'll just try to find a cheap older one to buy. She went on sale and discount a few times, so she probably won't be super expensive. And the Archive one will most likely go on sale or discount too, considering the last one did.
