It has been stated by the writer in discussions that he is indeed who everyone says he is. I guess they originally wanted Yoda in that role, but it wasn't something they could get together.
George said he was 70 as of Episode I. Acolyte is almost 100 years before Episode I
It'll be odd to an extreme if we don't see Yoda in the show. 🤨 I've been guessing they're saving him for some big reveal or hero moment.
Yeah, I thought since Yoda, Yarael Poof, and Oppo Rancisis feature in the High Republic comics that we'd see one or all of them in the Acolyte. But I get the feeling we won't be seeing Yoda. I'm not certain, but that's the impression I get.
@supercamel-1982 Right... it's really about being realistic with yourself, giving yourself some permission, and also some discipline. I don't preorder everything I'm tempted to, but sometimes... I give myself a present or two. And that's okay. You gotta let yourself have some stuff. No one gets hurt, heh.
When I have so many people in my family with various addictions, and I know this is justification, but collecting my little plastic people feels pretty benign really, heh.

It's funny because some of the more angry comments sections I've seen, it's almost as if people are digging out their pitchforks in case Yoda appears. I didn't realize that was such a triggering idea.
I really don't mind Ki-Adi being in the show. I've never really wondered about his age, to be honest- he's an alien, so age probably works differently for him. If anything, this means they have more room to play with him and tell more stories, which isn't a bad thing. Thing about canon is that it's always changing, even with more established, non-Legends things. It's just part of fandom and a side-effect of there being so many hands in the pot, both good and bad. Even Dave Filoni has kinda changed/skirted around some things in canon, and nobody has Star Wars' best interests in mind than him.
I'm glad to see another Kel Dor besides Plo Koon, even if they are a clear red shirt. Don't know if we'd ever get a figure of them, but I'd take it if we did (though I still want a Clone Wars Plo first). I'm expecting Yoda to show up too, but probably not until the finale, or even season 2. I feel like he's an inevitability, it's just a matter of when. And what he'll look like- part of me wants the same design, but part of me would also kinda dig something like the fan art design I've seen of a young Yoda, with long dreadlocks. I'm sure even Yoda went through his "cool" phase. I like that they're trying to establish Jedi that can stand alone without the "big" names. Since the Jedi are being Silly Billies anyway, and denying the possibility of a Sith (if that's even what Darth Smiley turns out to be), the Council wouldn't necessarily need to get involved. Vernestra seems to kinda be the show's mouthpiece for the Council so far, but after what Smiley inevitably does to the group of Jedi in the next episode, I have a feeling the Council's attention will be turned to the matter more. I have a feeling (and I hope I'm right) that there's still a fair amount of story that's yet to be revealed, not only in the past, but the present as well. I'm interested to see some of these much hyped fight scenes that supposedly rival Duel of the Fates.
All that said, I really hope the divisiveness of the show doesn't turn Hasbro away from future figures like it did for TROS. Even with my distaste for that movie, there's still plenty of figures I want from it. And for Acolyte, it would feel wrong to me not to get Smiley, Vernestra, and Kelnacca (especially after we see him in action, as that one brief clip from one of the trailers suggests us we will). I'd even take a Torbin, just to have all of Mae's hit list. And a Mother Aniseya, since she got a Retro series figure, and is undoubtedly an important part of the show. I quite dig the aesthetic of the show, if nothing else, and hopefully the latter half of the season will bring more fans around. Star Wars fans (myself included, at times, I'll admit) are notorious for pretending not to like something, while secretly kinda digging it.
I don't fully get why anyone expects a lot from the Jedi Order anyway. Sure, they're honorable and stoic, etc. But slavery is outside of their jurisdiction. Also, "Hey, Yoda, we found an entire army based on the guy who was trying to kill us and can't fully explain their genesis!"
Also, as far as onscreen stuff changing canon established by EU stories, I've mentioned before, but Fett fans had to just deal with it back in 2002. Oh, Ki Adi is older than you thought he was? Try having his entire, detailed backstory COMPLETELY rethought.
In other news, I FINALLY ordered Momaw Nadon. I had a couple other figures I wanted and was able to get the free shipping from EE. I'm pretty excited to finally have that put to bed.
Hammerhead for the win!
I added him to some Pulse Exclusive G.I. Joe order to get the free shipping - he's one of those that has to be on my shelf.
I've decided I'm not buying another Star Wars figure until I can buy Kelnacca, so there.
Wow, I respect that you've drawn a line in the sand.
Since we can say his name now in this thread:
My work has me chronically online so avoiding ugly discourse is kinda tough, but the funniest thing that has happened to me all week is people pushing back on the toxic fandom by saying "nobody actually cares about Ki Adi Mundi, it's just rage bait" and every time I see one of these posts I look up to the bookshelf next to me where the new Ki Adi Mundi figure is in a "come at me bro" pose next to Baylan Skoll and slump my shoulders sadly.
Like, I don't actually care at all what they do with him lore-wise, I just like the old egg-headed samurai, but for a fandom where the goodest dude in the galaxy once yelled something about how only the bad guys deal in absolutes, this fandom LOVES absolutes, doesn't it. (Fanatic isn't a compliment, it's a warning, innit.)
Although I reckon online it's the toxic "they changed the canon" folks and the "you only care because you want to be mad" sides of the argument are very loud where us guys who are like "heh, neat, it's him!" while quietly posing our action figures and hoping nobody yells at us.
@docsilence Heh, thank you. I would love to focus more on the 'neat, it's him' side!
@ru1977 I would love to transition all of Star Wars discourse to "OH NEAT ITS HIM!" It'd be good for my stress level. Marrok cameo in Tales of the Empire? OH NEAT ITS HIM! 🙂
(Not that i think people shouldn't have opinions, but between Star Wars, D&D, and publishing in general I feel like all I do is try to avoid getting caught in argument crossfire these days.)
