Placed a pickup order for Carno. Came out to a little over $27, which you can't beat! It's a location that's always been iffy when it comes to following through on pick-ups, but it was the only one that had it available (which also worries me). Been loving the reviews, though. Truly is a beautiful figure. Methinks it's finally time to bid adieu to my Toro figure

Well, Target came through! Picked up Carno today. Haven't gotten to take it out of the box yet, but it looked beautiful in package!

Picked up my carnotaurus today.  Went to two Targets, and neither had started their Christmas reset yet so he wasn't on the shelves in either store.  He's spectacular.  Slightly harder to pose with regular-sized feet, but no harder than human figures really.

I know the one carnotaurus fossil that has been found had no elbows whereas the one in Jurassic World does as does this figure, but I'm fine with it and often wonder just how sure archaeologists are that they just aren't missing an arm bone and he did have elbows.  I'm sure they've debated about it more than a little since they found the fossil in 1984, and I wonder if the Jurassic World designers just overlooked the missing elbow or decided it's more likely that the species actually did have them.

Take it with a grain of salt for now, but some leaks have suggested that the Pyroraptor and Delta from the Raptor Squad are the next Hammond Collection figures being released. Would love to get Pyro; was just tossing the idea around of picking up the basic figure to have in the collection, but I'll obviously wait if it's really coming. Nice to get the rest of the Raptor Squad as well.

Ross stores seem to have gotten quite a few JP toys in stock
I've also seen some at TJMaxx/Marshalls

and Big Lots

Saw this raptor on BBTS today.  Obviously JP-inspired, but not official: https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/262809?o=4

Looks nice to me.

At $52 they look really expensive for a 1:18 scale Jurassic Park velociraptor with almost the same design as the 1:18 scale Mattel velociraptors.  Can you tell what added articulation it might have?  All I've spotted so far is an extra diaphragm joint mid-torso.  The Mattel Rexy has that same joint, but the carnotaurus and brachiosaurus both lack it.  The carno in particular needs it because its biggest weakness is it can BARELY turn most of its body to the side.  Her neck has the least side-to-side articulation range of any Hammond Collection figure I know of except maybe ankylosaurus who is understandably limited by its turtle-like armored torso.

But maybe the joints that line up with the Hammond Collection raptors are just better and have a premium articulation range that make these two raptors the best ever made.  We'll see after it releases, but right now I don't care at all about these.

Wait--I just realized the mid-torso articulation point I mentioned is in some of the promo shots, but not all of them.  WTF?  Here are two of the pics from BBTS, and in the first I see no mid-torso joint but I see one in the second.

You're looking at everything I know about them.  THey appear to be imports to me, which would account for the pricing.  Other than that, I don't buy the JP stuff (I prefer the more scientifically-accurate stuff like Beasts of the Mesozoic), just thought they could be of potential interest to those who do.

I haven't been able to pull the trigger on them.  The paint aesthetics have always looked wonky, and the design decisions are often weird.  The T Rex with a neck that looks like a hoodie plus the unarticulated legs to overcome the weight distribution issues on the joints just aren't acceptable.  I really wanted a 1:18 triceratops from that line, but the paint on all of them just looks bizarrely unnatural.  I'm fine with the brightly-colored dinos I see in nature specials because the color quality on the CGI is generally really good, but the paint on Beasts of the Mesozoic looks unnaturally garish.  I'm also HIGHLY skeptical of paying a premium for inferior articulation.  The Hammond Collection figures all have better articulation than the Creative Beasts figures, so I'm just not sure what we're paying for from that line aside from funding a smaller toy company.  I'm all in for doing that, but not if they're worse than the much cheaper Mattel or Hasbro toys in too many glaring ways.

I really want articulated dinos in either 1:18 or 1:12 scale so I'm generally interested in those imports, but I'm skeptical.  They do look better painted than Beasts of the Mesozoic so I'll be interested in the reviews once they release.

I will say, those Raptors look hella sexy. The JP3 raptors have always been my favorites, and it's nice to see they've been getting a lot of love lately from a few different companies. I only have 1 other Nanmu Studio piece- the Spino, but it's a glorified statue, with only a hinged jaw. That said, the paint work is stellar, as also appears to be the case here. I'm curious about the articulation as well- how tight it is, and what is/isn't included. I wasn't aware Nanmu did articulated figures, or if this is their first venture into it, in which case I'm curious to see how the QC is. Will be keeping an eye on these for sure.

It's just the angle of the photo -   they've hidden the mid torso cut cleverly with the angle and the arm positioning.  You can see on the top photo just above and behind the "elbow" that the prominent stripe coming over the thigh joint stops and that's the cut.    The arm is positioned with the edge running just along the torso cut and you can just almost make it out just above the "wrist".      So I think that's more clever photography to minimize the sight of the cut than anything else.

He bases the decos off of existing reptiles and birds, and while I'll agree that the schemes don't always map that well onto the dino figures (and I don't buy every figure anyways), I don't agree on the other stuff.  For my tastes all the Mattel stuff just looks like toys, and the JP aesthetic doesn't work for me knowing what we know about these animals now, so there's no question between the two for me. But don't worry, I'm not gonna press any further.  I don't hang around these parts of the board and really only came to point those figures out to folks I thought might care!

Snagged 2x Hammond Concavenators at Ross for $10 each yday.  Hopefully a BossFight saddle will fit in front of that ass-crest as a rider would look fantastic on it, imho.  The ass-crest would make for perfect support for a jouster.
