For budget reasons I had ended up canceling my orders for Slushhead and NA Skeletor,  so it was a very nice suprise to be able to order them for $10 each.   I'll sneak them into my own stocking for Christmas   🙂

I love target. Don't know how they keep buying deep into Masterverse then just clearance them out, but it works for me.

Made a very small dent in the back log. Clawful, Slush Head and Ram Man. All solid figures!

I was careless popping out one of the tentacles from Slush Head's packaging tray.  I broke the tips on the "U" shaped arm.

Got irritated with the lack of leg motion on Sorceress and managed to find an extra copy of her on eBay to mod... used a razor to basically cut a V shaped skirt on the front and back removing the longer pieces and she looks... pretty good? I may cut it shorter for more range of motion but for now I actually like her with a shortened skirt better (more similar to the Origins version/cartoon). This, of course, means, Mattel will release an official version of her like that in like two months but it was only like a ten dollar investment to give it a shot.

Teela Sorceress is the same way. Her lower half is heavily restricted by the rubber skirt. I am also contemplating cutting the skirt up to allow better leg movement.

I cut the skirt on an extra Sorceress also. I’m content with it, I put her in with my Classics display. I’ve seen other more in-depth mods that scallop the skirt for the feather shapes, and abandon the wing cape to give her a high open collar.

It looks like it's pretty certain, the 4th figure yet to be revealed in the Wave with Revolution BA He-Man, New Eternia Mekaneck, and New Eternia Tri Klops is

Revolution Keldor!

How much did you remove on your Sorceress? I used the light feathering on the front of the skirt to make the V in the front then mirrored it in the back, but I think a little more might improve it. Followed the measure twice cut once rule to test it out first.

Even if it's a quick and dirty mod, I like the figure so much better I might pick up an extra Teela and do the same to her. The long plastic skirts look good at first but offer no ROM at all.

I’ve never been big into Masters of the Universe, but I’ve dabbled at a very surface level in Classics and this current line. I own 5 Masterverse figures, all but one of which I bought at discount: Series 1 He-Man, Battle Cat, Stinkor, New Eternia Skelator, and Clawful. I also bought Sun Man as a gift. All of them are excellent figures for the price. I’m surprised this line doesn’t have more discussion- it seems better than the Classics line (though I only owned 5 figures in that line too). The newer figures especially seem pretty great. Are MOTU fans not into this for some reason I’m not seeing?

Does anyone think they’ll make a Battle Blade Skelator figure? It’s so out of left field, but I really like the design.

@supreme_d

I don’t think there any one reason that it’s not selling better.  Rather I think there are a few reasons.
I’m a casual MotU fan.  What I mean by that, was that I watched the cartoons, but never collected the original toy line, or read many of the comics.  I, too, started picking up the Masterverse line by getting some on clearance.  I agree that they are nice pieces.  So why aren’t they moving better?

I think the more dedicated fan base has a nostalgic tie to the old sculpting style, and for some it’s their preferred style.  Combine that with the higher price point of figures, and they have no desire to pick up multiple lines of the same characters, in different scales.
Add to that, most collectors buy more than one toy line (Marvel, Star Wars, Mythic Legions, etc), and those collectors will stick to just one MotU line out of financial necessity.  Then I think they fall back to what has the greater nostalgic pull.
Everybody’s motives will vary, but I think some variations of that will apply.

@detectivehoag thanks for the reply. I never considered that MOTU is cannibalizing its own sales with Origins and Masterverse competing. Good point.

Now that you mention it, there also might be people who are on the fence because they dont think Masterverse will go as deep as MOTU Classics. While they are probably right, but I hope they aren’t. Masterverse figures are generally better articulated, cheaper, widely available (without some hokey subscription), and have a current media tie-in. Mattel usually screws up, but if a Mattel line ever deserved to succeed, it’s this one.

Interesting point about whether or not they're eating at their own sales. I collect both and both lines scratch a different itch. I love the nostalgia of Origins, but Masterverse is the style figure I want NOW. (Sort of like the Kenner-style Star Wars figures versus Black Series, the first one makes me smile but the latter is the one I want to display more.)

I'm close to having everyone I *need* from both lines though, so the newer releases are just getting me cos they're doing such a great job with both lines. I reckon both lines have me til they stop being fun.

Case in point - just picked up the Orko/Gwildor two pack and movie Evil-Lyn and I'm questioning my sanity on the latter cos I didn't get the movie He-Man and Skeletor earlier. Ordered Lyn not realizing the previous movie figures weren't easy to find!

The picking one MOTU line over the other applies to me but I’m the opposite where I kept collecting Masterverse over Origins. I collected both early on but the rising prices of the other toy lines I collected forced me to just pick one MOTU line. Origins was a headache to find for me so I naturally dropped that one with the exception of the occasional MOTU vehicle which can sometimes mesh well with Masterverse figures.

Finally set up some shelves for my modest Masterverse collection, still many missing that I'd like to buy but I really enjoy this line as a casual collector:

@leor I stuck with Origins, mostly because it was the easier one to find in Canada for a while, and was cheaper than Masterverse.  Also Mattel Creations really kept the line going for me while Masterverse kind of floundered at retail.

Pricing has kind of closed the gap up here, especially since no one seems to have sales anymore on Masterverse, nor much of any new product (outside of individual online retailers).  Origins can only be found, for now, at those same online retailers but they are usually $25+(Cdn).  Masterverse, what little can be found at regular retail up here, is $35+.  We did get sales/clearance early in 2023, but that has all but dried up except at TRU.  However the newest stuff at TRU is Two-Bad and Slushhead who are deluxe priced ($55?).  Again only online guys have new product and it really has killed much interest for me in Masterverse.

I think if it doesn't change much in the new year I am probably going to be done with MOTU outside of the few Origins figures I want and maybe stuff I can find on sale.  However for now lack of product on shelves is killing my interest.
