Amazon Preorders for Evil-Lyn are slated to ship around the end of January so I expect many stores to ship out around then.
So I have to say I am quite impressed with Slush Head.
TRU is having a BOGO (free) sale and my local one only had Two-Bad ($13.98Cdn) and Slush Head ($19.98Cdn) for MOTU stuff. Shocking I know, but MOTU has all but disappeared from regular retail in Canada (only online e-tailers and Amazon).
Anyway, with the current tax holiday (no sales tax until Feb on select items, kids toys included) it means that I was able to get two Slush Heads for $19.98 all in (already have two Two-Bads). So basically $10 each. Not bad considering when he first was released he was around $60Cdn plus tax.
I have to say I am pretty impressed with him as a figure, and I absolutely love the mix and match of the pod and tentacles. I am disappointed they glued the helmet to his body armour, but I guess I can just use the hot water trick to loosen it up enough to get off. Also his feet and lower leg bracers are not good. They make it hard for him to stand in any position without some real trial and error.
I was never a big fan of NA, and only watched a couple episodes. So I don't have any real attachment to him, but he is a pretty good figure with all the deluxe parts.....and for only $10Cdn.
New pre-orders up at BBTS for New Eternia King Randor, New Eternia Beast Man and New Eternia Roboto. They all 3 look very nice and I pulled the trigger on each of them. Roboto in particular looks very clean. Interestingly Beast Man seems to have taken some cues on his attire from the TMNT Crossover Beast Man - but I like it. It's a new element to a costume that's been done alot.
King Randor also is fun as he comes with both a crowned head and a helmeted head so the old ruler can still wade into battle if necessary.
I love that new Beast Man, he has Lords of Power/concept art vibes and I love that he looks *evil* and intelligently “savage” rather than brutish and dumb.
Random, pointless first impressions:
Tempted to get Roboto just to see how much mold builds up from washing my new figures.
King Randor's tights make him look like a female WWE wrestler since they all have to wear flesh tights for the last five years or so. It's neat that he has swappable hairs but I would have loved if that crown were it's own accessory to share with other figures.
Hard to top the Deluxe Beast Man but this one is fun. I've been sealing those little "jewels" like on his belt from this line with Future floor polish to give them extra shine. His tassets really go a long way to make him fit in with other NE villains.
Roboto looks great. Beast man went way too hard on the blue lipstick.
Has anyone got the Vintage Skeletor yet? Mine's supposed to be arriving in next couple of days.
Skelcon goes really nicely with the Throne display- I had two of the Ladybird books when I was younger and the original versions have stuck with me since then. Maybe would have been nice to have them recreate the original version as it was presented, but still a great figure nonetheless.
Robots and Beastman are also up for preorder on Amazon for $21.99
I don’t love how this Beast Man looks so far. Maybe I’ll change my mind once he’s in hand, but as is, something looks odd about his proportions. I wish they’d lean more 200X with his design. That’s been my favorite modern iteration of him.
I picked up all three new figures. Randor's a bit odd with his leg color, yeah, but I dig the face sculpt. Roboto looks lovely. Beast Man is one of those villains I generally will support any iteration of (I recently screwed up and had the movie version in my cart on BBTS and didn't buy him before he sold out again). I think he looks a little off but I also liked how the deluxe New Eternia Beast Man indicated he was part of a tribe - I could see them on the shelf together as different characters.
My other goof - had BBTS ship the new Fisto and He-Man and then 24 hours later Evil-Lyn hit my POL. Been looking forward to her most of all so I'm not even waiting to ship though. That's the Evil-Lyn I've wanted in this line since it launched.
On Beast Man: in general, I wish the line supported branching out into more characters of the same species or tribe or whatever. Granted, I don't know all the lore so closely that I'm aware who is a member of a larger group and who is a unique individual, but the subline is NEW Eternia, so more Stinkor people, more Beast Men, more Stratos-folk, Buzzoffs, Mer Peeps, etc. I think would make for some fun designs/takes. I know at least three of those have had other individuals at least shown either in animation or packaging art!
I would be in favor of more characters from the different Eternian races. More Bird people of Avion, more Beast people. But I wouldn't want to get too carried away. I feel like some could be released as tribe builders, with more generic, swappable parts. Definitely would want female versions.
Side note - Lyn finally hit my PoL as well. I only have Secret Wars Spidey in there with her, so it'll be a while. Hopefully Silverhawks Copper Kid makes it in soon. I'd probably ship if he was the lone addition.
I'd be game for at least one "generic" version of all the creatures in MOTU. I actually use the comic version of Stratos over in Origins as a generic, separate avian character - he's like Stratos' lieutenant or whatever. I don't know either how the lore works out but I think there's at least confirmed other beast folk (like the female one above - LOVE that character art!) more bee-folk, mer-folk, and Stratos' people.
I don't know why, but I've always pictured Merman as the sole Mer-person. Like he's the most evolved of all sea creatures, and his humanoid form gives him the versatility to exist out of water. That's what edges him out as ruler of the sea. Similarly, in my head, there are no other moss people, just Moss Man, but he has telepathy/empathy with all foliage organisms. But the other guys come from a broader race. Whiplash is from the dragon/gator people (I'm sure all these races have their own names), Buzz Off and Webstor come from their own insectoid/arachnid rival races, Clawful from his own crustacean race (that answers to Merman).
