Super7's humans continue to be pretty awful (that new chick from the latest Thundercats line looks pretty bad still), so woof, not sure how these could turn out better than Hasbro's attempts.  Though Hasbro felt like they weren't even trying...what a strange set of circumstances.

I don't think she looks bad. She would look way better if fully painted, but that's the story with most Super7 figures. At best, they seem to only have interest in painting faces, but they can't be counted on to even go that far. I don't think the Hasbro ones were painted either so I guess if it didn't bother fans there it may not here, though it's certainly fair to argue that the standards for a $55 figure should be higher.

I wish the sculpts were just a little more "realistic" and a little less cartoon accurate.

Flynn's dedication to "cartoon accurate" is my other sticking point with him.

Yeah....  honestly it's an issue that's been bugging me to a greater and greater degree.  When he first relaunched Thundercats Ultimates I loved them so much... but as the figures moved away from the work Mattel had left for Super7 and they started doing cartoon only characters the liknesses have gotten "cartoony-er" and softer and I don't prefer it.

I am a huge fan of the Masters of the Universe Classics aesthetic -  which hews closer to Marvel Legends and DC Classics and such - where the sculpts typically don't look exactly like the artist drew the character but use a more standardized, unifying look.

I loved that MOTU Classics took a guy like Nepthu and didn't make it look like a cartoon, but what the character from the cartoon would look like in this classics style.   Same with Masque or even Plundor.

I really would have preferred if these D&D Ultimates took that approach -  that would have made the figures fit better with what NECA is doing as well.

I think it’s fair to say that those of us who have been wanting these for 40 years and were disappointed by Hasbro’s failure in providing a quality animation line probably wouldn’t buy these had they went in a creative direction other than that look. I do understand wanting something that will blend in with NECA’s awesome figures. Maybe NECA will add the animation characters into their own lineup at some point too? Likewise I hope Super7 can add those LJN characters in with their Reaction lineup or even better yet in a D&D O-Ring line.

I mean.... to be fair those fans DID just get very cartoon accurate figures from Hasbro - even if the quality wasn't very high.    So I think it's a tad disingenuous to suggest there were fans waiting 40 years for Super7 Ultimates versions of these characters.

They are what they are at this point and not the figures I'd prefer - so hopefully there are enough guys like you that are dying for the same figures Hasbro just put out only bigger.      I've resigned myself that if I end up buying them I'll probably end up trying to do head swaps or something to make the faces less animation specific.

This is rite up Super7's alley, cartoon stuff, mostly all their figs are cartoony. they are known for that style. heard someone say they wanted more realistic. im fine with S7's ultimate figures articulation, its decent. ive always liked S7.

They're actually up for preorder on Pulse now.  Has that been the case with other Super7/Hasbro stuff like GI Joe etc?

Wanting or expecting Super7 to make non-animated figures seems odd.  Their whole gimmick is selling animation-inspired/looking figures.

Wanting realistic-looking versions of the animated D&D characters seems like a niche desire.  I think the designs for the show were fine, but I wouldn't want them realistic-looking.  I don't like the character designs that much.  Something which always bothered me about the show was some of the weapon choices, like a bo staff and wood club.   If I'm going to get realistic looking D&D figures, I'd rather have something like Dragonlance characters.

I mentioned this in the Hasbro D&D thread.  I think these Super7 D&D figures may not even get enough preorders to move forward.  These could end up being cancelled.  Animated D&D figures are a niche, and certainly a number of people had their itch already scratched by Hasbro.  Super7 cancelled some Disney, Power Rangers, and Star Trek figures due to low preorders.  I can see the same happening here.

I think I was pretty clear about what I preferred and why.   I don't want realistic looking figures -  just not overly cartoony looking.    My main collecting interest is  MOTUC and Thundercats Ultimates.   I want figures that match those.    These figures won't.     That's why I'm let down.    That's all.

And "animation-inspired" doesn't have to mean slavishly animation accurate.   While it is something they leaned into with other Hasbro stuff -  G.I. Joe and Transformers -  I thought that was partly to differentiate their product from the stuff Hasbro was already putting out.

Just doing larger figures that look basically the same as the figures Hasbro just released seems like an odd choice to me.

They don't look too much different to me.

And, keep in mind -  this from Super7 is just a render and not the final product, so may well look shinier and more plasticy than this picture.

Their Reaction line has D&D looking figures from the the early edition Monster Manual, Player's Handbook, etc. I like them and would be up for deluxe versions of some of those "characters". More so than the 80s cartoon. Could be that I am that age, or it could be I'm more of a 70s air brushed Wizard on the side of a van guy than the 80s sugar cereal and cartoons kinda guy.

Best just to ignore him. He tries to be funny or or posts replies opposite of what others do just to get reactions out of people.

I'm interested in the shadows and possibly the skeleton guy. I am fine with what Hasbro gave us as far as what I was going to display. I skipped the traffic cone Venger and Dungeon Master, but otherwise the marked down Hasbro figures I got scratch the itch for me as far as the kids go.
