There's two diff pics of Valkris with the Genesis Device and Control unit showing them to be two diff sizes; but I assume the packaged pic is the more accurate? I'd prefer the smaller size to be better compatible with the 18th Hiya Treks but that thing's scale doesn't need to be perfect either way. Anybody gonna want an extra Valkris figure?
So when playmates released their 2022 line I was inspired to start jumping onto Ebay to “re-build” my collection. I totally went down the rabbit hole and not only have a good playmates collection going but moved onto AA/DST. I’m almost all done with TNG era/Wrath of Kahn but moving into TOS I have a question: I know AA’s original 2003 releases were slightly smaller at 6in vs 7in due to an error…but what about those 2008 TRU DST “re-releases”? I know I’ve seen people say paint apps updated but I haven’t see any mention of scale? Reason I’m asking is I noticed a pic of TOS crew lined up(it was actually a scale comparison during a McFarlane Kirk review video)and the Scotty figure TOWERED over the other TOS figures. Did they update/“correct” the scale with the TRU’s?
@nottelling56789 Those rereleases were exactly the same as Art Asylum’s. Now the Next Generation one’s were way off. Picard looked like a giant with a diaper next to TOS Kirk and crew on the other hand!
Yeah, TOS and TNG are essentially different scales for the Art Asylum figures. TNG was closer to Marvel Select scale while TOS is more standard Marvel Legends scale. I think DS9 was TNG scale, except the figures that were from the episode when DS9 visited the Trouble with Tribbles TOS episode.
I will be curious how the Nacelle figures match the two different scales.
@nottelling56789 If I could send a comparison picture from my camera roll on my iPhone here I would. I’ll have to see if I can do that on the ‘ol laptop computer this evening. From what I can tell though, Nacelle’s figures are going to scale really well against other figures made by them. It’s great that we’re getting uniformed waves, because I would not want to display these next to figures from a different era. The aesthetics and design would clash, but they were very nice for their time anyway!
Amazon sent Hiya's Sulu earlier this week. He looks good - his face paint is much more naturally colored (like Scott & Chekov). Hopefully things continue to improve as they head into Strange New Worlds.
"Unofficial" update on (2009) Uhura - LTCave (formerly LockerToys), one of Hiya's distributor's, confirmed on one of their Facebook posts that Uhura is not coming (to their knowledge). They did not elaborate, but seemed firm.
Hopefully that doesn't cross over to the other crews with female characters. Strange New Worlds has a number of female characters who can share a re-used body (Number One, La'an, Ortegas, Uhura). Hoping perceived lack of body re-use is all that held them back with Uhura; and that we will see women in the line.
Unrelated - very confused we've seen an Original Series Kirk in the mix for the 1/18 Hiya prototypes. Everything we've heard from the licensing folks (Nacelle/Master Replicas) so far has indicated that the license is broken down as: a) Original Series through Enterprise (2005); or b) 2009 Reboot Films through current day Strange New Worlds. It seemed like Hiya had the second license...but guess not?
Thanks for the info! I'm most excited for the TOS characters in this scale, so hopefully that will happen. I have yet to see in-hand pics or reviews for Sulu or Scotty, so I'm a little on the fence for those two, but I'm plenty happy with Hiya's Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. Bummer about 2009 Uhura though.

Super bummer about Uhura, if true. I don't even know if I'd try and keep continuing the line if that's the case. I can't imagine the tariffs are going to help sales any, so that'll be just another excuse they can use to not produce her. I know Hiya doesn't really do multi-packs, but I'd pick up a second version of one of the existing characters (maybe a black shirt Kirk or cadet Spock or something) if it meant getting Uhura too.
I can’t shake the feeling we’re never getting Nero, Prime Spock etc. either and they are going to stick to “only reusable” bodies ie we’re never going to get anything other than similarly uniformed bridge crews. Honestly for me personally…kinda bummed I spent the $ on this line.

Shhh, don't say that. Don't get me wrong, I've thought it too, but we mustn't speak it into the universe. 😆 I'm instead choosing to be wilfully ignorant and go with my theory that maybe they just wanted/needed to recoup a little money with re-usable sculpts before they committed to unique ones (another reason why I think giving Spock the gray robes that the original figure had could've been smart, since I'm sure they could've squeezed another Vulcan member out of it). But like others have said, it's not like they couldn't have re-used Uhura's sculpt for another female crew member too, so I don't really know.
Considering all the unique sculpts and parts for the Godzilla and Kong lines (I know there's plenty of re-use there too, but still), I can't imagine more humanoid parts would be all that expensive for them. Aliens and Predator lines wereas the same way- lots of re-use, but enough unique parts to make each figure worth it. Guess it's just a matter of sales; I know the Kelvin stuff isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I'd have to imagine there's at least enough of a fanbase to keep it afloat; all of the released figures have sold out around me.
But like you, I'm kinda teetering on buyer's remorse right now, at least until they announce and release Uhura (since she could always be announced and just never released).
I'm reading this as them saying specifically 'no 2009 Zoe Saldana Uhura' figure, not 'no Uhuras or women ever'. Y'all can check my previous pages of yammering about why I've seen this coming; but I can't imagine it being a line-wide rule; just for that particular version of Uhura from those 3 films since that partiucluar uniform doesn't have a lot of reusability. I'm hoping they're kinda dumping the 2009Kelvinverse as soon possible anyway.
They should be able to get enough reuse of other variant female bucks to warrant an Uhura/Main Character Female for every franchise going forward, imho. SNW only has 3 dudes and like 7 women so it's hard to see how they could argue for a full crew of just Pike, Spock, M'Benga and maybe George Kirk and then Jim Kirk.
Hiya's work shows they do hear fan talk about engineering issues and such; let's hope they hear how much we do want the women of Star Trek in 18th because I for-sure certainly do. Do some figure-interactive shuttles and small vehicles! Do some diorama playsets, maybe build-a-bridges!
Before they do any of that stuff, they need to show me they will release a female. Now that I have new Trek figure options I was never going to buy Hiya anyway - plus, the released figs don't look good - but no Uhura is soooo stupid and not a mentality I'll support from any modern company.
Sorry for interrupting the Hiya conversation, but does anyone know when we can expect a size comparison picture for the Nacelle line? It says on my preorder that October is the release date, but I expect see photos many months before.
Just want to know if they will look good with my Star Wars figures.
