@new-batman I’m kinda wondering about that myself. I’ve also been wondering if these are going to be exclusive to Target or if they will be wide release? Distribution has been really weird on these so far to say nothing as far as dedicated space on planograms for retail shelf space. It would would be outstanding if they could have a spot right by TMNT so that they can at least be noticed.
First look at the 6 inch line from Hiya.
Not bad, but hopefully they tweak the fit of the uniform.

Hiya showed off a 1:12 Kelvinverse Kirk.
...it...needs some work.
Except not one of those designs is new! There is literally no reason to hold them hostage.
That does make me wonder if it was Paramount that pulled the plug on Prodigy Janeway, though, since they pulled the plug on that show.
They're doing Disco Pike and Spock - weird. And doing Booker without a better Burham is odd, though I like Booker so that's fine.
But at this point it's just Seven for me. 🙂 I did find a clearance Picard at Target so I'll hang on to him, but Playmates has a LOT of commitment to show to get me interested in their line.
@schizm Not only are the designs not new but I am hearing reports that once again Playmates is not allowing photos of their booth at Toy Fair. I am seriously starting to think that Playmates has no confidence in their product. I was really trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but they clearly are just a bunch of damn clueless morons. If the embargo on product information is coming down from Paramount why are Hiya Toys, Exo-6 and every other license holder not bound by those same heightened restrictions? No this foolishness is all on Playmates.
Yeah, Pixel Dan reported that he was not allowed to photograph/talk about most of the TMNT display. Whether or not they have any Star Trek on display, who knows. The Target computer listing sounds promising, but this wouldn't be the first time canceled or unreleased figures show up in a retailer inventory system.
I'm really indifferent on Playmates at this point. If they release brand new characters (or versions), and I don't have to chase them down, I'll probably buy them, but I very much dislike the aesthetic of this new line, so I'm fine if it is dead. They should have stuck with the original style, or come up with a new modern style comparable to other collectors lines on the market today, but this mediocre, in-between approach they chose just leaves me cold.
One note of good news is that TMNT Donatello as Spock is getting a single-carded release. I will definitely grab this one. I bought the Walmart 4-pack just for this one figure, but I haven't opened it yet and I may return it.
@scottg10 I am right there along with you about not really caring about Playmates and what happens with them anymore. They apparently don’t care about our opinions or wishes for their Star Trek products. Hiya Toys is definitely showing a willingness to commit to a nice lineup. If they show the ship they mentioned previously and it looks decent and depending on price Playmates might just lose this license for themselves for a third time because they are just to full of themselves to be friendly and relatable to their customers. It’s unprofessional to ignore a customer’s interests in your product especially when they have taken time out of their busy lives to reach out to you. They have definitely soured a lot of people’s opinions of the company by having zero public relations skills.
More on Playmates Trek at Toy Fair, or lack thereof. I don’t know who this person is, but if true, nothing surprising here.
if you don’t have access to this Facebook group, the summary is no Trek at Toy Fair, the figures are not selling well and the wave shown at UK Toy Fair is in limbo, ships and props are doing better.

Because they made terrible figures and are completely to blame.
Figured that Target list was old info.
I hope someone who is there asks Playmates their reasoning behind re-releasing the first wave with painted faces. That was an interesting swerve and I'm curious their reasons for doing it.
If they'll deign to answer questions about RELEASED work.
@scottg10 Well that's a kick to the gut if it's so. TNG is the major missing thing in my overall collection.
I’m pretty tempted to not buy another damn product, ever from Playmates. They are not the company they used to be. After the cancellation of the 2009 I swore I was done with the company but I foolishly was willing to take a chance on them hoping that maybe they had learned from past mistakes and were finally going to make something we could be proud of. They phoned in this line and gave us some mediocre effort at best. It’s clear to see they abandoned us in their cash grab for TMNT: Mutant Mayhem but that is clearly not the TMNT of the 90s either. I think our patronage should be more directed to Super 7 and NECA. They actually welcome open dialogue with the fan base. Hopefully Hiya Toys as they become a bigger force in the collector community will be a success. I really think we should commit ourselves to getting Paramount to maybe get DST back involved in light and sound Star Ships and role play. I would really love it if Jazzwares could do for Star Trek Starships what they are successfully accomplishing with Micro Galaxy Squadron. I’m really ticked with Playmates right now.
@bgiles73 I'm calling the post mortem on Playmates. Do you have the new Playmates 1701-D? Is it out yet? I see it up periodically on Amazon but I'm not buying a ship model with a ton of visible screws on the underside like that. Hiya won me over with Keenser though! Probably be the only figure I buy from them but it looks like he can blend in with my SW cantina!
@zombief-body Hey welcome back buddy! I just ordered the D from Target and TOS communicator. I really begrudgingly ordered because I am holding out one last little bit of hope for a Wave 2……but yep Ol’ Doctor McCoy would definitely concur with your post mortem. As for Playmates, if ever in the future Star Trek becomes the brand….. Well I hope they tell them they can go straight to hell.
I would really love it if Jazzwares could do for Star Trek Starships what they are successfully accomplishing with Micro Galaxy Squadron. I’m really ticked with Playmates right now.
oh yeah man, if they can revive those old innerspace and strike force lines playmates did back then but better... i would buy them all.
