Dr M'Benga, as promised. He's just Hiya McCoy with a pasted-on Marauder Task Force head and hands:
I basically laid my X-acto against McCoy's neck, facing upwards and cut his head away to just a neck cylinder; then trimmed the stump down in 1mm increments until it was about 3mm higher than the MTF's hair/neck line when laid next to each other using the McCoy cut line to match up against, then I trimmed the cylinder circumference down until it matched width of the outer 'crater' of the MTF head's neck socket. I didn't worry about crafting a neck ball to plug in so long as the crater had a good rim connection, and simply glued it in place. There's some ugliness along the back hairline but thankfully his hair color is dark enough I simply slopped enough black paint there to make it a non-issue. Any ugliness in the front side can be covered by the overhanging jaw so long as the ugliness doesn't go lower than the chin.
The Hiya neck stumps need a bit of shaving-out to maximize the head posability; but widening that teeny-tiny neck hole by simply 1mm adds a *lot* of head movement I'm very much enjoying. It's almost as big a change as when RAH Joes went from swivel-neck to ball-neck.
I used MTF's dark skin Ajani head: https://www.marauderinc.com/product-p/mtf-h9914-q.htm
I have even better plans! The ultimate in vanity actually. Lol Some years back I sent off for one of those 3D printed heads where you send a front facing and profile picture of yourself and they send you back a small 3D representation of yourself. I’m definitely popping that on a Red Shirt when Scotty comes out!
On the one hand, I'm ecstatic to have some 18th Trek figures that aren't the nadir of dogshit for the artform.
On the other hand, I'm crestfallen it's the shitty reboot movie versions of them (despite the pretty excellent casting for the roles the movies themselves are near-unwatchable crap) and then they all came out paler than Colm Meaney after a 6mo Antarctic expedition.
So yeah, for out-of-the-package play they're a bit underwhelming. For jumpstarting customs of the most-neglected gigantic-ass license in 18th scale they're a god-send.
Anyway, here's Lt Christine Chapel, Starfleet Medical Corp from my comboverse. I think I'm building up to a cross-time tale where all the crews are interacting for an extended time.
Nacelle is asking what characters we want to see in wave two at their [email protected] email. Time to give them a list!
I haven't sent a Star Trek wishlist into a company since Playmates in the 90s. And they never made Ogawa!
Mine was Tasha, Seven of Nine, Guinan, Chapel and Rand. Complete my old collection while easing me into a new one? Would probably work!
I hope Nacelle gives a good update on The Expanse figures soon - the last round of protos really had me worried at the quality.
Do you have any of Nacelle’s “Biker Mice From Mars” or “Sectaurs” figures? I have them and if they are representative of Nacelle’s overall commitment to quality and authenticity, Star Trek and The Expanse are in very good hands. I am not exaggerating when I say I can’t put these things down for long. The plastic used is very heavy and the articulation is smooth, yet maintains whichever pose you put the figures in. The articulation is very reminiscent of SH Figuarts and Bandai figures. I can’t praise it enough. The Nacelle figures do not have foot pegs but are very stable on their feet. True all their lines so far have been based around characters from cartoons but from the photos from NYCC and in YouTube updates with Brian Volk-Weis these are looking to be incredible. I can’t wait to have these in hand. They are truly going to be the definitive Star Trek figure in that scale.
I have a feeling the answer is no, but has there been any word from Hiya about them ever doing figures of any of the female Star Trek characters?
@sgtstinky This is pretty cool of them. I'll have to try and come up with a list and send it off to them... and do my best to keep it reasonable, lol. It's nice to see a company communicating with and understanding the fanbase as much as Nacelle has. I really hope this line works out for them sales wise.
I am unaware of Hiya Toys commenting on either Facebook, Instagram or X in regards to any questions from their customers. Our best bet is hopefully they will have representation at New York Toy Fair in March. I think Diamond Select had Hiya’s Star Trek product in their booth when the line was first introduced a while back, I’m not sure about the specifics but I know some of the other internet toy sites interviewed an unnamed Hiya Representative. It would sure be great to have a face and a name to go with for this company. Having Brian Volk-Weis communicate with us is certainly refreshing.
Anyone here as excited as I am about the Lego Star Trek rumors? I love StarWars Lego but I will most definitely get every Star Trek set created if this turns out to be true. I really hope a Lego Star Trek video game also becomes reality!
Hiya is the most garbage-tier toy company I know of for customer interaction. They don't even care enough to interact with customers by giving them any info on the packaging about who the characters are, lol.
My gut tells me Uhura's absence is due to difficulty adapting the engineering to Saldana's far-slimmer form combined with the paucity of women in the Reboot movies to even make instead of the knee-jerk 'racism' suspicion I'd had. There's her and Carol Marcus, and *maybe* Spock's mom; and she doesn't even share an outfit buck (and let's be honest in that Saldana and Alice Eve do *not* have the same physiques even if in the same cut of skirtdress). We're not gonna get Saldana Uhura simply because she's not gonna be worth the cost, imho.
I have high hopes for SNW women simply because the crew is mostly women and their uniforms aren't as snug-fit.
There is also Uhuru's Orion roommate
Andrew Duncan posted pics (not by him) of Star Trek: Lower Decks prototypes, and Star Trek: Picard, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds prototypes, on display at London Toy Fair. Company is Master Replicas.
Boimler looks great!
But the live characters don't look as good - mainly due to the legs/hips being terrible. A commenter recognized that the hips/legs on these prototypes are from the recent failed Playmates line - the weird "balls" at the tops of the legs are unmistakable. So hopefully the actual figures will have something better than what is on display today. (You can't go around stealing the legs off of another company's figures!)

Interesting. When I saw Master Replicas I assumed these were statutes again…(the pics aren’t loading for me)so I went to the Star Trek Figures UK FB page…and lo and behold these are articulated figures?! For everyone talking about the wonky looking hip/leg joints…I’ve seen others point out those are almost certainly from the 2022 Playmates line…so let’s put 2x2 together here…isn’t Master Replicas business model to make $ off defunct/leftover lines a la Eaglemoss? Are we looking at what we would have gotten out of Playmates wave 2-3 that MR got the molds/ok to release!?
