@bgiles73 As a 37 year-long TMNT collector, that is the best description of Playmates' incompetence.

@tenime Yep, I have been a longtime buyer of their products too. They just don’t have any kind of a clue there anymore. Seeing how they have dumped on us Star Trek fans, I really don’t know if I want to commit to their Voltron Anniversary toys that they’re releasing soon. They are liable to give you the four lions that make up the arms and legs and cancel the line before we get the Black Lion!

@bgiles73 That's a bummer for those of you collecting the figures. I took a pass once I saw they were 5" scale, I'd have been in for at least my favorites from each crew if they went 6" or 7".

I am happy to see them continuing the ships. I missed the initial releases of them back in the day and have always wanted large, affordable Star Trek ships, so I'm loving my TOS Enterprise, will probably buy the D when I some extra cash, and I'm looking forward to the A and Defiant, assuming they get made.

Off topic but isn't that Voltron just the classic version they released during the Netflix line?  I managed to get all 5 of those lions clearanced at Target very shortly after they released.  The only line Playmate's hasn't dumped quicker than ST is Voltron!

It might be. I only recently learned about the Netflix Series and those Playmates Toys. I somehow missed both when the series first came out.

Wow. Sad ending, and even sadder addendum at the top, but what a collection. The 9" Tasha right in the middle of the shelf is one I would buy. I bet he's got a DST 7" scaled one in there, too. There are lots of customs - I think I see a Playmates Nurse Ogawa, which is the #1 character I used to write in to them to produce, using the cards. 🙂

Finally opened the new Playmates Enterprise D I got on sale a month or so ago.

The stand is CRAP.

The vertical part won't stay connected to the base almost at all. Any repositioning of the ship and it's in separate pieces again. Also, not painting the underside of this particular ship, when that's pretty much always visible and looked at from below, is super cheap. And I know this was noted previosly, but not even sculpted the neck? WTF?

It was nostalgic to open and mess with, and the lights look great, but what a letdown. Unless I glue this stand together I can't safely display it where I wanted because it's going to fall and take half my display down with it.

Star Trek (2009) Exquisite Super Series Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy 1/12 Scale PX Previews Exclusive Action Figure Gallery Image 11

missed the mark on the likeness here. Their other 6 inch scale heads are amazing, not sure what's going on.

Yikes. That's bad.

Still no Uhura? I'm really bummed Playmates didn't put out any Lower Decks merch now that that show is on the way out. Those characters would have lended themselves well to Playmates aesthetic.

Then again, we'd probably only get three of the four cast members.

I’ve spent the better part of the day comparing the new Hiya Toys Karl Urban/Dr McCoy to movie stills from the 2009 movie and I think what’s throwing it off is that 60s hairstyle. The clean shave look is definitely not a look too often thought of when it comes to what I’m sure a lot of us attribute to the actor either. I kind of see a resemblance to Steve Buscemi in both the 2009 movie and these Hiya figures representative to that movie. For the sequels I find that they moved away from that Deforest Kelly hairstyle and Karl Urban looks more like what we are all used too. In that light I think both the Mini and 6” figure look pretty spot on, especially when you blow the pictures up considerably larger and can see teeth in the mouth that aren’t easily noticeable in the pictures. Also compare the sculpts to stills of McCoy as the shuttle craft is about to board the Enterprise.

I see Amazon shows that 4” Kirk and McCoy from Hiya Toys will be ready to ship May 22. I’m really looking forward to having these in hand soon. I hope Hiya will have a lot more to reveal at SDCC in a couple months!

@bgiles73 Yeah, I'm anxious to see some online reviews of Kirk and McCoy Been checking youtube almost every night to see if anyone has gotten them early. I really hope they dig into TOS or TNG, or at the very least Strange New Worlds characters.
