I'd think it has more to do with creating a whole new sculpt more than anything. All of the rest of the crew have the same body, theyre using paint on the sleeves otherwise the sculpts appear to be the same (aside from the heads), but Uhura will need an entirely new sculpt.
@joshsquash729 I get the feeling we will probably get Carol Marcus from the sequel to the 2009 Star Trek so that’s a little extra mileage from that Uhura sculpt. They showed a sculpt of Spock in the Volcano suit from that same movie so it’s a good bet we see more than just from the 2009 movie.
One assumes that funky inner articulation under the shirt would need to be unique to the ladies, which is really the bit holding Uhura up, imho. My gut tells me they're waiting to see the response to the dudes before investing in the much-smaller number of women they'll get off that buck. I'd be surprised to learn Hiya's even considered the idea of making generic crewmembers; but I'd buy a 4pack of 3 dudes in the three shirt colors + a woman. Throw in some swappable heads for variety and I'd buy enough for every head.
And for me, I don't really grok Pegg as Scotty so I don't care about the fairly poor resemblance to Pegg. However, I do think he looks a fair bit like real Scotty's son playing him on STContinues, although the hairline is different.
Seven weeks since Hiya's last reveal of Scotty and still no Uhura. Do they plan to skip her entirely?
Wouldn't surprise me if they're either waiting to see how the line sells first, or waiting for the next convention to be able to show her off. It's possible they're still working on likeness rights, too, or figuring out the articulation? I'm not terribly concerned just yet, especially considering how deep some of Hiya's lines have gone; they're also not a company that's ever shied away from making female figures. She was a huge part of the films, I don't think they'd just outright skip her.
They also must know that if they skip her, people will skip this line. I'm not planning on getting these but all interest will be gone if they don't make Uhura.

I think the Abrams movies are just okay. My TOS purist friend likes to refer to them as 'kids playing Star trek on film' 😆. That being said, I'm so desperate for quality Trek figures that I'm really thinking about getting these. 3.75" is my favorite size for figures, and these look great and are very articulated. I've never bought anything from Hiya, so video reviews of these will make or break my decision. The omission of Uhura does seem odd, as she was so prominent to the Abrams storylines.
I got Super 7 Picard and Worf. Worf is easily the best of all their ST Ultimates in terms of likeness. Picard is next. But the paint apps are bad. They tried to do like a 5 o'clock shadow on him, that just makes his face look dirty.
I haven't compared the heights on these to the first wave of figures, but the articulation has all the same issues as before.
Same boat as many of you - perplexed we haven't seen Uhura announced (she essentially bumped McCoy and became one of the "Big 3" characters in the Abramsverse); and I'm not willing to preorder any of the others until I see her announced. I love the scale (its the scale of my childhood - I'm always going to love 1/18) & love the sculpts. But Uhura is a must.
Hiya isn't afraid of females, in general. With the Aliens line, the ratio was 2 females/4 males. And the Judge Dredd line has had 5 female releases (although 4 are variants of the same character). So hopefully it's just them tweaking Uhura's sculpt.
And echoing: would very much like to see Carol Marcus (although she may end up as Chapel in my display), as well as Pike and Khan from the second flick.
I’m not worried that Hiya won’t get to Uhura. So far they have showed everything they had prototypes of at last year’s SDCC except for “Volcano Suit” Spock. I really think Hiya could probably become a bigger player for action figures because they have announced several new licenses and they are showing pretty ambitious reveals. I’m really hopeful they will rollout products for other areas of the Star Trek Legacy.
I don’t think Hiya would do anything for Lower Decks. Playmates should jump on that because it would probably fit their style but I’m sure they will still be sitting on excuses. Maybe Jakks will grab that license because their Simpson’s line looks great. Lower Decks would look nice in that format too. The smaller 2.5” scale would be a great way to also see play-sets and ships!
I got both waves of Super7’s Star Trek Ultimates and I thought they look really nice. I didn’t love the price though. I think I would be really happy if Playmates could have made their Star Trek line a happy combination of 90’s Playmates, 2022 Playmates and Super7 Ultimates. If these Ultimates would have been 4.5” and $20-$25 that would’ve been exactly what I was hoping for! On that note has anyone seen the announcement about the Walmart Exclusive TMNT Remastered Turtles set. It’s said to be the 90’s sculpts with enhanced articulation and detailing. Kinda the same thing we were expecting for Star Trek. It’s probably too late but I would love to see them try this with Star Trek.
Please forgive my ignorance & annoyance for being a Trek novice, but I assume Playmates is done with the "origins-style" figures? I wasn't foolish enough to be hopeful for the whole TNG crew, but I was still hoping they'd do more than Picard/Riker/Data...
@tenime Playmates lacks the courage to represent Star Trek to consumers. In their cowardice they delegate this representation to a second party. Whomever this unknown “representative” is allegedly stated at Toy Fair that due to low sales Playmates was going to move away from action figures and continue roleplay and ships. This company has avoided customer relations and has continued to keep us in the dark. Also the team working on the ships and roleplay isn’t an inhouse team at Playmates. So it’s anyone’s guess what in the hell is going on there.

let’s see…
Kyle..
M’Benga..
Riley…
DeSalle…
then Uhura.
surely that’s soon enough, right? 🙄
Didn't see it until earlier today when I was randomly visiting their website, but DST finally acknowledged the Star Trek ships they're "still developing" in the AskDST they put up on March 4th:
James H.
Hello, I have to ask about the USS Reliant and the Enterprise C , is there any chance of this coming out, your quality is so much better then anyone out there, I always brought 2 of everything Star Trek just in case. Hope you continue. 🙂
DST CHUCK:We are still working on trying to find a way to make that happen, I have to admit the more time that passes the more worried I am that we will not be able to bring them to fans. But never say never.
AskDST #465 Marvel, Gargoyles, Star Wars, and more! - Diamond Select Toys
Sort of an expectedly disappointing response after, what, four or more years of silence? I get that there are details they more than likely can't share publicly for legal reasons, but it's kind of frustrating not knowing what the holdup on the ships is. I don't even particularly care about the Reliant, but the C would have filled a big missing piece to a lot of people's ship collections.
I asked this question to MSWord over in the General DST thread on this forum:
Over in the Star Trek Thread on this same forum someone shared a question that was asked in the Q&A with DST Chuck about the possibility of the Star Trek ships that DST was working on ever seeing the light of day. Chuck said the usual Never Say Never which got me wondering, Does the subject of DST ever getting back into the Star Trek license again come up at DST? Playmates really managed to let a lot of us down. Even if y’all wouldn’t get back into the action figure side of things I’m sure that in the right circumstances y’all could do something in cooperation with Hiya Toys whose 1:18 JJ Abrams Star Trek figures are really looking nice. I would love to see some DST light and sound ships to display alongside those and hey maybe if we’re lucky some modular light and sound bridge and other scenery sets scaled to those 1:18th figures!
