@drawingturtle Thanks! It was super easy, mainly just some coats of dullcote, a bit of drybrushing, and repainting the eyes and claws. Then I just hit the claws, eyes and teeth with some gloss to make them pop. Took a couple of sessions, tops.
I like subtle paint jobs like that. It looks factory - just from a much more expensive factory! The drybrushing really brought out the quality of the sculpt. So much hasbro stuff just needs a little more paint to shine.
Is there a female character worth putting into this line? I'll admit, I'm not into D&D and am hardly aware of the vintage line of figures this is based on. But so far it's very male heavy, and I was curious to see if there was a possibility for expansion that would include female figures. I could always mix in a Mythic Legions figure if not. I don't keep these with Legions, I actually store them with my Gargoyles figures. Same company, similar aesthetic.
I mean... Super7 put this one in their first wave of D&D Reaction, so that's a start:
But there are definitely others as well. and considering the sources NECA is pulling from maybe something more like Skylla would be considered?
We've got most of the rest of those pictured announced for the line already, so she'd fit right in...
Those all seem like great options. I like the warrior looks, but also like the magic user looks. Either way, I hope some kind of female gets included in the line.
@normdapito I have a custom character I made using Tyris Flare from Storm Collectibles, and she looks great. I'm also working on a custom sorceress character based on my Baldurs Gate 3 character. I'll grab some pics later.
Mercion seems like a good choice for the line and maybe even one of the next two to get made. Although I suspect Melf will be the next good character.
Another female from the original line was Deeth.
Here's a super quick roundup of some of the figures I've mixed into my NECA D&D line. It's actually probably more of a general fantasy line that has the NECA figures in it. I gave Arrizak slightly longer legs so he was more in scale with Warduke. The Barbarian/Fighter female is a modified Tyris Flare, and the Sorceress is a custom mockup that's missing a lot of work (skirt, cloak, paint apps, etc). The figure riding the werewolf is a modified Xesray Vlattia.
I mainly just kind of enjoy putting together figures for a decent 1:10-ish fantasy display. I have a bunch of Golden Axe skeleton warriors, the Hasbro Displacer Beast and Beholder, both Xesray Minotuars, the Mythic Legions cyclops and Centaur, and a few of the Golden Axe dragons and ML horses. And the Moose, because why the fuck not?
@misterskeezler Dig it man!
I pretty much have the same thing going and am having a lot of fun putting together a roughly 1/10 fantasy shelf. Mine has become a bit more D&D centric with NECA's line, with legions figures, Conan, Darkwolf, etc.. sprinkled in
See for me... all of that gets mixed in to my MOTU Classics wall. All Fantasy and many sci fi tropes work in that fictional universe so it all gets mixed in as various factions without needing to create isolated or separate displays.
That totally works too. I don't collect MOTU, but I would definitely throw all of these figures in that display if I did.
I'm looking forward to the SDCC reveals for this line. We only had one new figure revealed last year, so it would be nice to see a bit more than that this time around.
Nothing in the booth so far. I'm not getting my hopes up.
