...Not 100% sold on that face. I know he will come with others too. Can't wait to see what accessories he comes with. So many options.
I kept hoping they'd make him. Always thought he'd make a good Mezco figure. Hopefully he'll be a standard release and not a MDX.
They also showed off Art the Clown, though this time he's covered in blood. Wonder if they're doing a variant or if we'll only get one or the other.
Got my 'pre-order processing soon' e-mail from BBTS for King Conan. Also:
Just watched a review of the Dick Tracy figures and it looks like they changed the suit to a navy blue from black, which is not what was depicted in the pre order photos.
Huge bummer for me and honestly kind of ruins the entire set. Mine are on their way and I’m not even sure I want to keep them.
Really weird decision.
Excited for Beetlejuice, must have for me.
My King Conan came today. Beautiful looking figure -- everything is really well sculpted, detailed, and painted. Articulation is good, with those new double-jointed elbows helping a lot with posing. All the accessories are really well done.
My only negatives are:
1) that the red cape sucks; they made the chain too long, so it just sorta flops and floats around on his shoulders. I think they should've added magnets to the little lion heads on it and added magnets to the vest so that it would sit better. They did add a wire to collar of the cape but it does little to help. The brown cloak is really nice, though.
2) The plugs they use to secure the vest and belt are a pain in the ass, like usual. Getting everything off is easy enough but trying to re-do the plugs is incredibly annoying.
Also, the instructions are kinda funny. Instead of using arrows to point to what goes where they drew in a person's fingers holding the items but the fingers obscure half of what they're trying to show.
I can't decide if I wanna display him as regal King Conan or grizzled adventurer Old Man Conan. Since I don't like the red cloak, I'm leaning more towards the latter right now.
King Conan arrived today. But first... about my previous Conan figure. It has now been over a year since I emailed Mezco and they said they'd send a replacement arm (or whatever their plan is, as if they actually have one). It's been somewhere in the neighborhood of a half-dozen emails, with their response always being that they're running behind and are 'working to get it to me' and that I could just send the whole figure back for a refund if I don't want to wait.
I've always declined and said I would wait. After a few months it was more just to see how long they'd be willing to drag this out before admitting they're never going to do anything.
A couple of weeks ago I sent another email stating outright that it's been a year and I'm guessing they're just not going to send me the replacement they promised. The response? Oh my god, if you guessed that the response was 'we're sorry for the delay and we're working to get it to you and if you don't want to wait you can send the item back for a refund' then you are FUCKING AWESOME at guessing things.
I told them I'll keep waiting. Lol.
They're never going to fucking send me anything. Mezco is fully populated by people that are either completely incompetent, aggressively deceitful, or both. So glad other companies are taking on Conan and other Frazetta characters so I never have to deal with these lying dipshits and absolute fuckstain of a company ever again.
As for King Conan; he's good. I honestly don't know how I feel about the double elbows. They're definitely uglier than the singles on the previous figures. But I don't think it's particularly bad or anything and the extra ROM is nice (although you do lose the inward motion of the elbow and have to rely entirely on the bicep swivel - which isn't always ideal for characters with big biceps and wide chests). All the new parts are, obviously, beautiful. As always, Mezco crafts a figure with enough variation in portraits and accessories that I wish they were cheaper so I could have more of them. In fact, I'd say it's bordering on pure insanity that they DON'T offer extra bodies for figures like Conan, where the main figure could support two or three more figures if you just had the body. But oh well.
I hate the chains and always knew I would. Not only do I actually think they look kind of fucking dumb, but I just never like real chains on action figures. The scale is always off, it never makes sense to me, and it actually either looks cheap itself, or cheapens the look of all the non-metal 'metallic' accessories like sword blades and stuff. I just.. don't like it.
Furry cape is fine. I feel like I get what they were trying to do with the red cape, but they did it poorly. I imagine the chain should be longer and the neck opening should be larger so that the cape sits more on the edge of the shoulders than around the neck, which would have spaced the lion terminals out and maybe forced them into a more natural position. I got mine looking okay, but not great. And it took way more fiddling than it should have and any slight change to his posture would require probably another ten minutes of fucking with the cape to make it look decent.
I attached my scabbard differently than shown, because I ended up not liking it how it was. So I threaded mine through the little dangly bit hanging off the belt rather than around the belt itself. The belt sits better that way and the scabbard is positioned in a way I like better. But honestly, neither are best case solutions; the attachment method in general just.. sucks. Like.. it sucks ass. SO much ass. Why not just make it a small belt and have him wear it like an actual sword belt? What's up with this half-measure that just looks kind of bad and is frustrating to put on? Or just have two belt options - one of which has an attachment point for the scabbard?
I don't know. Seems like there's a lot of ways this could have been done that would have worked and they chose violence.
I guess I should just be happy it's not another scabbard suspended from real chains hanging behind Conan's ass for some reason.
Overall, I like the figure a lot. It just has some typical Mezco-style 'why would they do this?' elements. For the price, I wish it were better executed, but it's still miles above a lot of stuff out there so what can I say. Ultimately, I am very excited to have finally filled out the space on the shelf that was always intended for this one.

I went through a similar runaround with Neca over the Channel 6 newsroom set I bought from them. April had a miscast arm that entirely fused her wrist and elbow joints. Tried for over a year to get a replacement, emailing every couple months. Sometimes they responded with a 'hang tight, it's coming!' and sometimes they ignored my email. Eventually, I gave up. I still have the busted arm April. They never sent anything.
Sounds like KD knows it's not coming. He just wants to see how long they'll keep up the dishonest charade.

The Collector's Conundrum. Hating a company with the power of Atomic Nerd Rage, yet still buying their product every couple of years. I am immensely grateful that I have not (yet) had to make these decisions.
Maybe they’re just waiting for another few thousand people to report the same problem so they can justify doing another run of arms, these things do take time.
Excited to pre-order the Blank already, but bummed he's a Mezco exclusive. I much prefer ordering these guys from pretty much anywhere else.
E.E. has been "processing" my King Conan for 5 day now. Money's long gone from my account. Come on, EE!
Just watched a review of the Dick Tracy figures and it looks like they changed the suit to a navy blue from black, which is not what was depicted in the pre order photos.
Huge bummer for me and honestly kind of ruins the entire set. Mine are on their way and I’m not even sure I want to keep them.

I watched two videos that really made the suit look navy thanks to their lighting, but I have the set in hand and it's hard to tell if it's navy or black under regular lights. His hair, tie stripe, and shoes are a jet black, so that contrast is the only real indicator. Otherwise, I wouldn't have noticed. And since I can't imagine displaying him without his yellow coat, I'm okay with the fabric, even if I'd also prefer it darker.
Was caught up and missed the Blank Pre-order. Ugh. Anyone know if Mezco waitlists ever convert?
