So annoying that only one Flickr link works as a photo at a time per post. Sorry to spread them out.
The figure looks GOOD. Not great. There are some oddities consistent in LooseCollector/Executive Replicas I'm starting to notice.
Sculpting is really nice. The quilted texture of her uniform is done really well. Her face is very pretty, though I'm not entirely familiar with the source material. From what I gather on the box bio, she's half Asian, "born of an American mother". So I guess she's mixed race? That comes through in the sculpt. Paints are clean and appropriate throughout.
The articulation is good and functional. Still has single elbows like Sonja and Vampirella, but the range is good. Double knees, very good hip range, with thigh and bicep swivels, barbell neck and torso. Still has those thin wrists, which I had to heat up to swap the packaged open hands to the grip hands from the tray.
She comes with fists and another pair of open hands, two sai, two katana, and a bo with a blade at the end. And a head with no Kabuki make up. I definitely recommend heat before swapping hands. The head came off with gentle force, but I couldn't get the other head on without fear of breaking.
She's about the same size as Sonja, taller than Vampirella, and much taller than average ML females. I wanna see how she looks with any of my custom Grifter figures, because that's the ONLY time I've ever read her, is in a crossover miniseries with Grifter from the Wildstorm days.
I'm definitely not disappointed with this, as I kinda knew what to expect. I do wish there was some improvement over weird things like the ugly sculpt for the single elbows and the thin wrists. But the pros outweigh the cons. I think this is another solid entry from LC.
Yeah... I'm struggling a tad with the scale on these.Β Β With Sonja I wasn't too miffed because I just slid her over into my 1/10 scale and she looks great and fits in on that shelf because there's a lot of barbarians and swords and stuff.
Β
But with the more super-hero type comic characters I'd prefer to integrate them into my comic shelf displays and those are 1/12.Β Β So as good as I think that Shi figure looks,Β I don't think I can get her because she's too big for the other characters I'd want to display her with.Β Β Harumph.Β Β
Β
Maybe I'll feel differently when I get my Grendel in hand and want to back track to find her... but I don't know
She's a little taller than I want, but I think still an acceptable and passable height for 1:12 comic book figures. I pulled out my last Grifter custom (using the Old Man Hawkeye base) and she's about the same height as him.Β
I haven't stopped messing with her, but she poses like a dream. I'm really having fun getting her into graceful acrobatic ninja martial artist poses. Her hips and neck in particular have really good range of motion. The torso joint also works well to aid a lot of poses.
There are a couple other things I've started to notice. Her leg sculpt is really skinny. And her feet seem long, but they help with stability and balance. I still hate how the hands don't blend well into the wrists, but at least her grip hands have the correct up/down orientation for the hinges, so she can really achieve a good variety of poses with it.
She has a big billowy skirt, that I don't remember from the old Shi figure (I can't even remember what company made it, but it was 6" and had a decent amount of articulation). I was going to heat her to pop her torso to remove the skirt, because there's no clasp, it's all one piece all the way around. But I tried pulling the torso apart first and it popped off so easily, even easier than her head, way easier than her hands. Seems it was meant to be taken apart, so that the skirt could be pulled off. This increases her range of motion somewhat, but it was already good to begin with, and the sculpt of the skirt was so billowy, it didn't really block the hips. It just rode up, which also didn't look great. But I'll be keeping it off from now on.
flickr is still around?
Thanks for the review and pics Norm! That last pic is such a money shot. If I do get one, that will be the pose its staying at.
The old figure was made by Dark Horse Comics. I remember having an opportunity to buy a bunch of them (there was another Shi character made) for $2 and passed cause it would eat up my budget for the $7 Legends. It was fresh from seeing Zombihamma use that head for his GSXM Storm custom to which he described "that figure with a horrible looking head and weirdly sculpted neck"
My Shi figure also arrived last night. This is my first Loose Collector/Executive Replicas figure, and I pre-ordered it despite the fact that I have no familiarity with the character/comic - I just thought she looked cool in an Elektra/Psylocke sort of way.
I have to echo pretty much everything NORM said; his observations are spot on (as usual).
I like the figure, but I am a bit bothered by the scale. I like to mix lines in my display whenever possible, and the bulk of my collection is Hasbro, or stuff that I'm comfortable mixing with Hasbro, like Mafex and even some Mezco. It's going to be a little tough to fit Shi in, especially if she isn't in some sort of crouched action pose.
Overall, it's a solid offering, but I've been trying to cut back on my toy spending recently, and I'm not sure the figure is good enough that I will be up for paying this price of admission for another release from this line. It's a very solid figure, but the value isnt there for me at this price point. I can basically get a Mafex for this price.
But if you're a fan of the Shi character, I would say it's worth it for sure.

Shi hit my POL from BBTS. I'm not shipping anything until after the New Year. I'm not risking anything getting lost in the mail if I can control it. I was assured Shi would be normal size and not wearing any heels to me could have been done. It's not a big deal but still a deal however still looking forward to her.
My Shi arrived today from BBTS. Β I agree that Normβs review was spot on, and his recommendation to heat the heads before swapping them out shouldnβt be taken lightly.
I think she may be the best LC/ER figure released so far although I thought Critter was pretty good as well. Β LC seems to be trending upward with each release or set of releases, so thatβs good. Β You can through value out the window, though. Β Even at half the price, the value would be questionable. Β Having said that, a poor value does not equate to a bad figure. Β You can have the best action figure ever made, and there will be a price point where it becomes a poor value.
Norm, you mentioned a thigh swivel. Β Is that at the boot tops or the hips? Β I tried Β the boot tops, and they donβt seem to want to budge.
@xavion2023 The boot tops are where the swivels are. I think freezing is what helps on those joints, but you can always play safe with heat to loosen and pop them out if they need it. Mine are very fluid, didn't need temperature aids to move them.
@NORM Β Thanks! Β A few seconds with a hairdryer did the trick.
