@trunks3540  I was just looking at my Taarna the other day.  A couple of years removed, and I don’t think it’s nearly as bad a figure as a lot of us (myself included) made it out to be.  I think we were just disappointed because of Loose Collector’s reputation as a customizer, the hand painted prototype vs the final production figure, and of course, the high price point.
The hand broke on mine as well, but I was able to fix it pretty easily, although I don’t remember exactly how I did it.  I think the fix was either posted here or in one of the review videos.
At the end of the day, it’s probably the best (and only) 1/12 version of Taarna we’re going to get, so if you’re a fan of the character, it’s probably worth picking up.
My issue is I'm not sure I can justify the price for just an "ok" figure that will probably break. Vampirella and Lady Death I like alot more then Taarna, and they didn't have as many qc issues as what I've read Taarna did, and I still feel like, at least for Vampirella, she was still a bit overpriced. LD was maybe $60, cause of shipping, so she wasn't as expensive. Maybe if they decide to reissue Taarna with better paint and plastic so she doesn't break I'd get that one. That won't stop me from getting Sonja though. I haven't heard anything bad about her aside from her feet. And that character I love alot more then Taarna. But the Hellwitch issues will make me not get her. Such a cool figure but too many problems for the price.
I just got Vampirella, and didn't have any QC issues either (but I'll always champion "just because it didn't happen to you, doesn't mean it didn't happen" as is so prevalent with humanity in general). I have the black wolf on preorder with BBTS, and am hoping the other three stay in stock long enough for me to spread them out (even with the payment plans, it's still a LOT).
And I will agree the finished look for the ladies is definitely softer than the renders. I don't know what they could do to rectify that.
Better skin tone shading in areas where it belongs. And for Vampirella she needs her eyes redone. They are a little too far apart. Sonja looks like she could use a bit of shading too like the render, as did Taarna. But as I don't have those (yet, for Sonja, cause i am 99% sure Ima get her), I can't really be the spokesperson for those ones. I just know what I saw in the reviews. Taarna looked awful, and no where close to what the proto shots were. Sonja looks better, but still a bit off, especially in the face. Vampirella has some shading which helps, but some of it looks a little closer to a sunburn (not a vampire reference lol) then actual shading, and not all in the spots on the render. And they all could use better feet. I'm not sure how to fix those, but all of them have heels, which is true the source material, but it makes them hard to stand, especially with how top heavy they are. It's mainly vanilla poses or they just fall. Even then, they still fall with tiny bumps.
Vampi has been fine so far *knock on wood* but LD has had a doll stand since I got her, because I didn't want to bother dealing with falls & needed to use the cape for my aesthetic preference.
Taarna has always just been sitting on her d@mn bird, so there's never been an issue there lol.
I had a cloth cape commissioned for my LD by Rebel10. It's glorious. A little bigger then I expected, but it looks and functions wonderfully. She even somehow managed to get a little gold skull for the front. The cape LD came with is... not so great. It limits her head movement and posability way too much. You would think with the price we pay for these, and how little we actually get, they could at least try to do a cloth cape, whether it be super amazing or not.
Taarna has always just been sitting on her d@mn bird, so there's never been an issue there lol.
My Taarna has always been sitting in the package, in the box it was mailed in so I can forget that I spent that money on something so disappointing. If I hadn't prepaid for Vampi and Sonja before Taarna arrived, I would have canceled them. Though they are a bit better than her, so I have them displayed (but not in prominent positions).Â
LC product will have to improve quite a bit before I ever make another purchase. I know LC is a tiny company, but just compare Darkwolf from Fazetta Girls with LC's Red Sonja and tell me the value for Sonja was there...terrible paint, dated articulation, soft sculpt and less accessories, and she cost more. Hell, look at the Savage Crucible stuff. LC needs to improve.
Â
@misterskeezler It's this sort of thing that makes me concerned for my preorder. I've never gotten an LC product before but I wanted to snag that Grendel. But I'm just not sure. The sculpt they show isn't quite a slam dunk for me. No butterfly, which seems odd on a character where that wouldn't hurt the costume at all.
And it's $70. That's a big chunk of change. Grendel seems like a low bar to clear with the simple costume and accessories, but I just don't know...
I've seen reviews of Sonja so I know the differences to expect from the proto shots. I still may try to wait for a sale though. $75+ is steep for an "ok" figure, especially when you see what the HACKS version is supposed to look like and come with for $50.
Dangit....  here I am trying not to get too sucked in to what Loose Collector is doing.  I was perfectly happy when he did his Liefeld partnership because I've never been a big Liefeld guy and could pass on all that.
Â
But today he casually drops a Captain Canuck pre-order on BBTS?  Sigh.   I'm a sucker for that kind of thing and have a soft spot for the Cap'n in particular.  Guess he got me again. Â
Â
The writeup for Captain Canuck says 6" (15cm). That's actually 5.9" So is he actually smaller than all the female figures he's made and he's too small for Legends? Weird, if true.
These preorders dropped on BBTS yesterday, it looks like? What do we know about Burning Hammer? We've got a guy who looks remarkably like Bruce Leeroy and the other is Beggar So from Drunken Master, so I'm hoping for a lot of other martial arts characters showing up here.
Got an email from BBTS telling me all the women in, so I should have them late next week.
@jhernandez As an aside, this review got me to preorder him. Can't wait for mine to come in. I got an email that there were some QC issues they're handling before the full order goes out, but I'm prepared for a big boy werewolf.
