I really dislike when a line has two different scales. It gets confusing when you see announcements and pictures online and like Josh said, you always have the fear that one line will win out over the other and you will have picked BetaMax when you should have gone VHS.
With these so cheap I kind of want to go in on both. I prefer the 4" but I do like a good display playset like we will apparently get from the smaller ones.
Really excited to start seeing these pop up. It's a line that I think I'll be able to cherry-pick (or at least I hope). I'd get the family boxset if I thought they'd continue that scale, but so far most of the love seems to be going for the 6 inch line. I just know they're gonna give us the pets in the 6 inch line, but make us get another variant of probably Bart or Homer. Not the biggest deal at all, but there aren't many variants, beyond maybe Treehouse of Horror ones, that I think I'd really need; no Sunday Best versions or anything like that. (Actually, now that I look at it, it looks like Snowball II might come with Maggie? That just leaves Santa's Little Helper).
Still, they're nice figures, and the articulation doesn't even really seem to disrupt the sculpt or anything. They translate really well to full articulation. Saw pics of the (2nd wave? or second half of wave 1?) of 6 inch figures, with Lisa, Flanders, Wiggam, and someone else (I think another Bart), and they looked nice too. Flanders is one I'd cherry-pick, along with Ralph and Milhouse. Comic Book Guy too.
Heck, I'm already doing it. Simpsons is a property with too many memorable characters!
There is both a 5" and a 2". The Lisa, Flanders and Wiggams are 2". Wave 2 5" will include Bartman and I think Vampire Burns
Where is that blue Bartman?? Hope he's not an exclusive, if they even do exclusives. Really excited to see who is in the 5" Wave 2 and onward.
I want to make a Target trip just to see if I can pick up Bart. I love buying toys in the store, though it's so rare these days.
The fact that they're the same size as WoS makes me euphoric.
Agreed! WOS is one of my favorite lines of all time. I am also unsure how I feel about the added articulation, as I feel that these are the sorts of characters that work best in standard, uniform posing. At the same time, I saw comparison photos of the Homers, Barts and Ottos and was shocked to discover that, on aesthetics alone, I think I preferred the Jakks figures in every case. As a true devotee of the WOS line, I never expected to feel that way.
There were a few coloring choices in those early WOS figures that always slightly irked me (Homer’s greenish shoes and Bart’s pinkish shirt), so perhaps the coloring on these new ones was a big thing.
Im so excited for this line because I’ve really missed collecting complete sets. While I love so much of what is released these days, most figures (even Legends) are so expensive that I basically limit myself to favorite characters or -at the very most - core teams. My days of being a completist are seemingly over because there’s almost always too many figures in a series and each of them is pretty pricey.
But I can do thirteen bucks a figure on four figure waves. And, unlike with so many other properties, I love almost all the peripheral characters in the Simpsons and will enjoy collecting all of them. I think I’m going to start searching for my first one of these tomorrow afternoon!

I was a big fan of WOS, too and it's not even close for me. These are much better (It has been 20-odd years since WOS, so it's probably to be expected.)
Otto is such a vast improvement from WOS.
Can't wait to see future releases.
Also, I would temper expectations about finding these in stores at this moment if your Targets are anything like mine. Nothing new out at all with the action figure aisle looking more shabby overall than usual. (As Enigmatic Clarity often points out, Target has taken a turn for the worse lately).
I assume there's a toy section reset coming up soon, maybe this week?

A friend had a Target manager tell them they had "until the 28th" to get their reset done, and if you didn't see anything on the shelves, to assume "they don't have it or can't find it in the back" until then.
Target is a mess. I placed a pickup order Friday for the NES World Championship game. I went down before it was "ready" since the app said they only had 3 left so I figured if I beat them to it it's no big deal. No one in that store could find the game. Said they had someone else in there in a little while earlier and mentioned my online order as something they couldn't fulfill. I left and didn't cancel the pickup order as I figured they would cancel it soon and tried another Target who also couldn't find their stock. Then I get a notification on my phone for the first Target that my order is ready for pickup. I didn't bother to ask where they found it when I got it, but my son was happy our adventure ended in success.
And during my trip through Targets that day I came upon this line for the first time. Just Homer and Bart for the larger scale, and nothing but tiny Homers for the smaller one. I was going to get them, but eh? I just wasn't feeling it when I was looking them over. No rush of excitement upon finding them, no feeling of accomplishment, no joy at seeing them. They're fine, just not exciting. I don't know, I think I have some collector fatigue from shelling out money of late for other lines. I think I want to see what these supposed even more "deluxe" figures look like before committing to this middle tier. If the deluxe Homer is better than this one then I'll just regret getting this one. I think it's the dead-eyed expression that is killing it for me. And the scale is definitely unfortunate. My word, does Bart have a big head compared to Homer.

I don't blame you, this line is unlikely to fulfill Super7's squandered promise of collector-quality Simpsons figures nor do I anticipate anything close to the quantity of characters/variants we got with Playmates.
I'll probably still end up jumping into the line out of sheer Simpsons love though. there has been a lot of positive feedback right out of the gate; if sales are good maybe we'll see a few playsets for the 5in figures?

This was never going to be a "collector" line. Jakks doesn't do that. Yes, collector's get some of their other stuff, but it's primarily aimed at children, which is why you don't see a lot of promotion for their various lines.
I found the 2.5 inch scale family set and the playset at Target. I got both. It didn't have the 5 inch scale though. I think 2.5 kids will scale better with the 5 inch adults.
Saw these at Target today. Everything but the 5" Homer. They had two 5" Barts, but both of them had googly eyes. A QC issue to look out for, which was also a problem with Bart in one of the family sets. The 5" Willie and Otto do look nice. I like the idea of getting the whole family, including pets, in the 2.5" set. Individual 2.5" Bart comes with a skateboard and Lisa has a sax, but those accessories are not in the family set. I'm curious to see how well these sell. Simpsons really haven't had a toy presence in a long time.
Looking forward to seeing what else is coming down the road in this line. Hopefully, they show off at least wave 2 at SDCC. I don't need anymore lines to collect, but I do think this stuff looks good.
I agree that the sculpts are a bit sharper than WoS and the articulation is nice, but not enough for me to think about replacing the WoS given how much I loved collecting that line. But I am also very happy these are scaled to WoS as I will keep an eye out for any new characters (Maude Flanders, come on down...) to maybe add.
After trekking to 10 Targets in the past two days, I finally found one Homer and one Bart tonight. Unfortunately, I had to put Bart back because of the aforementioned eye issue. Homer is amazing, though and I will continue my search for the other three.
Having this makes me a bit sad that I no longer have most of my WOS figures, since the thought of collecting those makes me feel warm and happy. But maybe it’s a blessing, since I now have an excuse to buy this new set and hopefully feel something similar.
i will confess, it’s also making me consider getting some core WOS figures on eBay.
Images for the deluxe figures are now out. Homer is his Angry Dad/Hulk look. I don't need such a figure, but I do like how the angry portrait turned out which gives me confidence that Jakks can make more expressive figures. Now we just need them to make the heads swappable. That Radioactive Man is probably better than the Super7 one, an admitted low bar. Also, probably not a figure I need, but I like what they did with him. Vampire Burns looks okay. A Treehouse assortment is tempting, though I need to see the figure in person to decide if it's worth $25. Jakks is pretty solid at making figures in that 12-15 dollar range, but I don't know about higher than that.

I wanna know why radioactive Man is sculpted wearing a wristwatch. I went and checked the original episode (Three Men and a Comic Book), and from what I've seen he isn't wearing one in the comic this figure is based off of, nor is Rainier Wolfcastle wearing one when he's playing Radioactive Man, nor is Dirk Richter...
