Target added a bunch of product both new and old I've never seen on the site before today. Hoping for a site-wide coupon within the next week so I can grab the Maiden set.
Don't have any useful speculation to offer, and who knows if it's permanent or an error or what, but Target seems to have dropped a bunch of NECA offerings from their website. I check it most days to see if anything new has come up with a simple "NECA" search, filtered for toys and listed by date. Previously, it always returned results in the 130s and 140s. This morning, it returned ... 21. Curious...

I really think that's where a lot of these mystery box items are coming from.

It definitely seems that way, from what I've seen. Which was to be expected. Were people thinking those boxes WEREN'T going to be leftovers of that nature?
My store hasn't received anything new from NECA for several weeks. Not even any reissued Christmas figures. I went to a different Target today to pick up some orders and checked their NECA section and it was even more bleak. Still nothing from the NECA Target Ambassador email to suggest anything is changing, but I would guess there won't be a head's up or anything, they'll just send an email one day ending the program. Or the email address will just get deactivated.
I don't follow why Target would drop the collector section. But then they already got rid of physical movies, so they seem to be working hard to make themselves as useless as possible moving forward. They may as well get rid of their toy sections in general, cause they don't try to even keep that stocked. I dunno.
NECA's Best Buy section is pretty damn robust, I will say, so at least there's that for physical places to get figures. The website has had a ton of stuff too, and seemed to follow release dates quite well.

I noticed on BestBuy's website when I was browsing just to see what cheap deals they have this time of year, that they've largely done away with not just physical media / DVDs and Blurays in store but also on the website as well. I don't buy a lot of movies, but the ones I like and might like to watch sometime during the rest of my lifetime I'll pick up, but it seems like most movies now it's either buy it right when it comes out or you'll have to hope it ever sees an Amazon sale because no one but the Dollar stores sell physical media. I have to say, BestBuy seems to have lot its way on understanding why people went there in the first place. Mine was selling electric lawnmowers, Squishmallows, exercise equipment, pretty much anything you can imagine EXCEPT physical films. And the videogame section is about a 6-8ft aisle on both sides and that encompasses the big 3 consoles. But don't worry because there's an aisle dedicated to all things Nerf and Legos.
Don't get me wrong, I'll occasionally use them for the odd McFarlane figure, but even Black Series and Marvel Legends is sparse if at all there compared to a couple years ago.
Yeah, NECA is pretty much the only reason why I still pop into my Best Buys occasionally. At least around here, they're the only ones who get in restocks of older items; it's how I got the Ultimate Big Chap, Ultimate Kessler Wolf, etc., and they've been the only one to get some newer figures in lately too, like Ultimate Frankenstein with the chair, Ultimate Jigsaw w/black robe, etc. Since I wasn't seeing him in stores anywhere and wanted him both for myself and as a gift for a family member, I ordered Ultimate Vincent Price for in-store pickup, and he's ready, so I'll go grab him today.
I popped into another slightly out of the way BB yesterday that's usually pretty well stocked, and their NECA section was looking a little barebones. Seems like they haven't gotten a new shipment in in a while, and it was almost entirely one of 3 TMNT things and a couple Holiday Chucky. It's always hard for me to gauge, because NECA has always been a bit tough to find around me here in NY, but almost any time I go anywhere else, stores like Target and Best Buy are usually full of them.
Best Buy is one those stores that doesn't have many convenient locations near me. They're usually stand alone or in a plaza full of party stores, dollar stores, and not much else. If they become the only reliable brick and mortar spot for NECA I'll basically be an online only shopper. Hopefully, if the Target deal is done then they just focus more on prioritizing online stores. Make the TMNT toon line exclusive to BBTS, if they must. I know they won't screw it up.
Picked up the Ultimate Vincent Price the other day. What a fun figure. Absolutely stacked with accessories. Almost makes me want to get a couple just to display him with the various heads and ties, but I'm leaving the default middle-aged head and ascot on, as that feels the most iconic. I love that the Raven can be pegged into one of the arms, and I love that he came with cigarettes. They're almost certain to get lost because of how small they are, but the included cigarette-holding hand is a nice touch to keep one safe. Body-wise it's nothing new if you have any of NECA's suited figures, but oddly enough he does feel a tiny bit sturdier, with tighter joints than some of the other suited figures, though I may have just lucked out in that regard.
I would lose my shit if they made a House of Usher Price figure. I think that is my favorite look he ever had.
@mr-potatohead House of Usher and Masque of Red Death would both be instant purchases from me if they did them!
It would be nice to see NECA pull an Elvira again and do multiple versions of the same actor (I know she's a character, but ya'll know what I mean). I'm not sure who would necessarily be popular enough to warrant it, but then again, I'm not sure if even Elvira herself is thaaaaat popular. Quite popular, yes, but she's still relatively niche compared to many other mainstream actors nowadays. Lots of folks I know know of her more than they know her. Point is, I think Price is as good as anyone, and think multiple versions of him could sell at least as well as her- that is, selling well, but I always see one or two on the shelf. He may not have the giant gazongas to help him sell, but he's enough of a legend, I'd say.
I hadn't realized until I opened the box, but in the box art flap, they have Price sat on the throne The Pale Man from Pan's Labyrinth came with, and now I kinda wanna pose him there, but ol' Paley just looks so good on it himself.
12 Days of Downloads are back this year. Up first, the Ben Cooper Kids. No Misfits kid might mean that thing got shelved which is unfortunate for me.

My USPS Informed Delivery says I've got a box coming from NECA. Gotta be the Universal Toony Terrors, and I'm nervous to see if they've corrected the Mummy error yet...
