My wife has pretty much talked me into backing the flame set just for the burning knight. We both really like translucent toys and it does seem to be everyone's must-have figure of the wave so I'm not sure what my chances of picking it up on the gray market are, or if it would even be cheaper on the gray market without the dragon head and flames. I have a few soft vinyl toys for which I paid around $150, but this will definitely be my most expensive action figure purchase.
I'm pretty sure I'm going in for the fiery breath set for the same reason. I'm not sure whether or not I'll keep the dragon head. Probably not. I don't think I'll have much trouble selling it and covering most of the knight's cost.
One thing I found interesting in a Four Horsemen interview this week is that the dragon campaign isn’t that much different than a typical wave preorder. They see a good amount day 1 and then things trickle out for a bit. Their biggest days however are just before the preorder window ends. The dragon is pretty much following the path they expected.
I found this interesting because the rest of us really only have Haslab and Kickstarter information to go off of. We’re not aware how typical money up front preorder has worked out for the Horsemen but they do. I think the money being due at time of ordering vs everything at the end like Kickstarter or Haslab is a big difference in this campaign to others. The fact it’s still chugging along a few hundred each day during these middle days is amazing. It could fund this week if it keeps it up. Each Friday is payday for a lot of folks so it’s not surprising the weekend numbers were pretty good.
UPDATED NEWS!
Sooo, what happens if the wings fund but the dragon doesn't? "Yay!! I got big wings!!"
Sooo, what happens if the wings fund but the dragon doesn't? "Yay!! I got big wings!!"
They said in one of the Youtube videos that the dragon has to fund for the other two to be made.
That new unannounced 4000 unit item needs to be something akin to a saddle to mount the dragon knight on the back of the dragon. I don't get the point of a dragon knight who isn't riding the dragon he comes with. The synergy of a saddle amplifies both the figure and the dragon beyond all appeal either currently hold.
Whatever it is it needs to be an accessory for the dragon itself. A significant number of buyers don't care about some or all of the human figures, and I'm one of them. The burning knight is cool to stick in the fire, and the skeleton is great to put by the dragon's feet. But if Sir Benegarr can't mount the dragon he just seems weird. Why's he got that whole dragon motif going on if he doesn't ride one? 🤔
@tfitz they’ve said if the dragon doesn’t fund the add on sets will be cancelled. Considering the dragon is less than 500 units from being funded, he’s going to fund at this point. The inclusion of Sir Benegarr is a nice gesture to get us to that point quicker. Plus it looks like the Fiery breath could cross that finish line today.
Heh, I was just kidding. Mostly. The wings would obviously be cancelled, but the head/burning knight could def. be its own thing. But it doesn't matter as Beyithirr is def. going to fund.
It all depends on how they're doing the math behind the scenes or what their factory rates are like. They might be doing it in such a way that a portion of the dragon's profits are earmarked as funding for the fire head and wings, or their factory quote is contingent on a dragon going into production and would need to be requoted if it wasn't happening. Or, it's all a bluff and should one fund and not the other the company just has a decision to make, though I'm assuming the wings are definitely out in that scenario.
@enigmaticclarity another interview I listened to said they had considered a saddle at one point but decided against it as it would make the dragon a pet rather than a god-tier character they have him as in their canon. They anticipate making a dragon saddle eventually but Eric hadn’t sculpted one yet. That could still be it though. It’s seems to be the one thing really missing at this point as far as things to add to this package. I think some smoke that could plug into the dragon’s nostrils would be cool to add as a small addition.
Oh hey, the skellie horse arrived today, I'd forgotten I'd ordered it. I'm not really a Legions collector - I only have one other figure - but the horse is awesome and perfect for something else I have planned for my display so rather pleased with it.
I’m almost tempted to use mine as a left over dragon meal now lol. The Graveyard skeletons seem like good additions to the Ashen skeleton and zombie too. Maybe less fresh so they’ve had a chance to lighten up in the sun? Lots of dragon victim options now!
The dragon is now 91% funded thanks to a bump from including Sir Benagarr. The Fiery breath add on back is now fully funded with just over 1,000 orders. Hitting that stretch goal by the end shouldn’t be a problem now! The epic wings are 81% backed so everything is looking really good now. Once the dragon hits minimum funding things should get interesting as fence sitters will have to decide to miss out or jump in.
Less than 100 more needed as of this morning for the dragon to fund. Today could be the day!
This campaign has done so well I have little doubt that we'll see more dragons soon. Black, red, and ice are my guesses.
I hope they don't forget about those of us who would buy a smaller dragon.
