Considering folks had to purchase tickets to attend Legions Con on top of paying $99 for the exclusive two-packs, $135 doesn't seem too harsh to me. I'm just surprised they're up on BBTS so quick.
Pretty much sucks for anyone that bought multiples at Legions Con and thought they were gonna flip them for a nice profit.
Yeah, I don’t like paying $270 for the two sets, but I get it. I live on the West Coast so it would cost me far more than $70 to get to New Jersey, let alone get into the Con and have a place to stay for two nights, but at least with the price of the ticket you have other things you can do; look at the show floor, meet other fans, see the panels and prototypes in person… plus I gotta pay shipping, so it’s like a tax, on a tax, on a tax because I live on the better side of the country.
Still if the option was “pay a mark up or don’t get the bonus pieces at all”, then take my money every dang day!
Also no sympathy for resellers, all past LegionCons were available at LegionShop for a similar mark up (though shipping was WAY more than $4), the only LegionCon exclusive with bonus parts I don’t personally own is the Unknown One and that’s because I didn’t like the base figure and I’ve never been to New Jersey, so it’s not like this is the first time this has happened.
Dragon looks very cool. But I’m only getting one dragon and the color way for this doesn’t excite me as much as blue/ice dragon or fire/red. Arracaggor scratches my blue dragon itch. I’ll buy the eventual red version they do of that size figure.
Thwipp!
Hey, question for folks who do swaps with these characters - how tough it a pop and swap with the torso? I picked up the two-pack from BBTS because it came with enough alternate heads that it was super appealing, but I think I want to use the cloth piece on Gawrich as a cloak rather htan a skirt and see the figure ship with it already on his waist. Just wondering if I'm going to forever loosen his midsection by swopping it out when he gets here. (Pricy set but I could find a helmeted generic figure who could use an unmasked head swap for pretty much all of the other heads it includes. I'm an easy mark for the non-helmeted faces on 4H figures.
@docsilence I do a lot of popping and swapping with my 4H collection and I've never had any issues with the sockets getting permanently stretched or distorted, but I'm probably popping and swapping each figure two or three times. I can't promise it wouldn't be an issue after a dozen times, but those beefy joints are designed for that stress.
I prefer the hot water method for separating and reconnecting factory-painted parts, but I'll use a hairdryer when I've painted a 3D-printed part and don't want to get it wet or the figure has soft goods, although I've soaked the fabric and it doesn't hurt it. The joints should return to their expected stiffness when they cool back down to room temp. If you encounter any issues trying to reconnect any soft pegs, let the peg cool down and only warm up the receiving end of the joint.
New release for Zolocon next year. The green spectral effects only come with the show-exclusive variant.
@runestonecowboy thanks for the tips. I'd be looking at a one-time swap, maybe twice but not doing a ton of it so if I can get the torso off and on again just once I'll be good to go. I usually prefer hot water but don't want to water-damage the soft goods.
I find the torsos are either on there REALLY good or pop off too easy (the latter is rarer). Trying to put the tail on one of the dragon-men last night and could not get that waist joint to pop to save my life so I gave up, but he also has a fur deco on his waist and I was using the hair dryer method to avoid soaking the fur and messing it up. May try hot water on the dragon dude tonight since I really want the tail on him.
Man, does that Zolocon figure look nice. I'm going to have to track that bad boy down. Sheesh.
I skipped preordering the Beasts wave via the 4Horsemen themselves. I'm interested in four (maybe five) of the figures, but I couldn't justify paying right now for the wave. Even though it may have saved me $50-70 to do so. All of the normal waves have been easy to find at other retailers. And some even have 10% off sales (which negates the taxes I'd have to pay 4H) and have free shipping (again a 4H cost). Regarding shipping, preordering via 4H would have cost me $25 shipping. But they offer $10 flat-fee shipping for in-stock items, so even just waiting for the 4H to have an in-stock sale makes sense. Also, I think I have something like $1500 of stuff preordered via their site. They've gotten really backed up with their lines. I thought they were going to try and have shorter turnaround times from preordering to delivery but I don't think that's improved. I would have maybe used the pay in 4 installments option, but my credit card won't do those plans anymore.
So yeah...I'm just going to preorder a few of the figures I really want (Lion and snake guys). And then just wait for them to be in-stock somewhere with hopefully a sale. Or heck, pick them up at a convention to skip shipping and hopefully taxes.
I really thought I was in for the Lion based figure... but knowing he's on that oversized body - I don't think I want him that big. I don't know. Still debating him. The snake soldiers I went ahead and ordered, but that was really it.
I waffled on the beast folks and didn't end up ordering from 4H. I mentioned before that I had some issues with the proportions, especially the heads, and as I got further and further from the initial excitement, it tempered down into a mild interest. Still might pick some up if they get discounted down the line, but for now there are enough animal people coming out from Chinese studios and the like to keep my wallet occupied.
I liked the snake-folk, but given all the other stuff I collect I'm trying to limit myself to the more history-adjacent less-fantastical figures. Mostly knights and Roman stuff, so I just went with 2 of the Lion-faced pretorians. I like that I can use the unmasked heads that have hair for other figures to diversify things. Often I find myself buying Mythic Legions for specific accessories that come with figures and then resolving to find a use for that figure later or sell it minus the accessory I want. I did get one of the Hyena gnoll figures just because it seemed too well sculpted to pass up and I like the idea of having a werewolf-like figure without going into the beastly graduated size of the werewolves from other lines.
Overall I find myself cherrypicking more from this line and reminding myself I don't need to preorder vast multiples of something, and if I really like it I can pay slightly more later and army build, which by that time, mentally I'm on to something else and am contented with just 1-2 of something. Not everything's being army built but at the same time I'm not overwhelmed with stuff or stressing over budgeting and space.

JT - Love this. Good reminder that we can often just wait out that hyperfixation on a shiny new toy reveal, because there will always be something new to fixate on, and they all end up in storage as they get replaced by new "shinys" over time.
Anyways, for this wave, I grabbed the roman guy and the Gnoll figure.
I like the Roman head so I can sell my Leodysseus and Gorgo two-pack because the only thing I really liked from the whole set was the generic human head, and the roman dude has basically the same head, and you can still display him with the helmet so that's a bonus. Will be interesting to mess around with the new double joints, and if I don't dig the figure in person, I can swap some parts onto the barbarians from the Sons wave.
The Gnoll is just too good to pass up. I was on the fence with the Snake Soldier, but the big headdress really puts me off for some reason, and it can't be detached from the chest armor, so I'll wait to see what else they make down the road, and can always pick him up if I regret it. Will also grab the LegionsCon snakeman when they throw him up on the site.
Overall a pretty light order, but that seems to be the case nowadays for me, especially given that it doesn't make sense to go all-in then sell what you don't want for a slight profit because those days ended when they got more retailers on board. I'm still sitting on figures from Poxxus that I have to sell, and will have some from Necro all-in as well.

Ironically the snake guy was my third most wanted, but I came away with "It'll look great...in someone else's display." Increasingly I can appreciate only getting the stuff I really want and letting the "kinda want" and below tiers slide. As you said, it all ends up in storage at some point and then dumped on someone else once we're no longer in the picture. I've often heard action figure collecting of the modern era compared to the old men who went all out on their model trains and displays. It's all worth a lot of money until there's no one alive anymore who wants a model train that takes up their whole room, and then, like grandma's china, you can't find anyone to give it away to!
