This one isn't really doing it for me. The soft goods just sort of flatten it out and make it bland, which I didn't feel about things like Red Death simply due to some of the detailing and color.
@prophet I would think Scrooge will come after the ghosts now. Each Stave or Chapter features a ghost except the last one, which makes the most sense to be Scrooge to represent that final part of the story. Plus after the 4 ghosts people will probably want Scrooge to go with them.
I bought two, she’s pretty as a stand alone character (I liked Dork Lair’s idea to give her wings and make her more of an angel) but have a near naked 2.0 base body in pale flesh is gonna be real useful for some customs.
Hope she gets reissued in the vibrant “Theme Park Haunt House” blue to match Marley, both because it would be fun to have all the ghost in a matching color theme but also because of how useful a blue base body would be.
Well, it only said Stave 1 but there are 5 staves in the complete story. So a bit reading between the lines on my part but there is a tease of more to come at the end. The 4 ghosts each have their own stave and the final one is the morning after. The last one seems the logical place to make Scrooge as there’s no ghost for the final part. And after having the 4 ghosts I think many would be wanting Scrooge at that point.
I brushed up on the book’s description of the Ghost of Christmas Past today and this is going to be an interesting figure. The ghost’s appearance is constantly shifting. Young to old, wintery themes to summer flowers on its clothing. I’m expecting a few swap outs now. This is the ghost that seems to differ most adaption to adaption so the Horseman can really let their creativity shine as they don’t have as clear reference points they need to hit like with Marley, Present, and Past. This one they can really make their own. It will be interesting if this is well received or polarizing.
Many have underestimated the bookish erudition possessed of the man called buttmunch.
Too often characters with multiple sets of arms are not depicted with proper supporting anatomy. Arms use shoulder, chest, and back muscles for proper support.
when these supporting muscle structures are left off, it looks odd. Sometimes the creator will remember to include this (i.e. Tars Tarkas of the John Carter of Mars), and it looks different because it’s not what we’re used to seeing. It is more anatomically correct though. In this case, a supernatural/ghostly character is more excusable being a “non corporal being”, is more excusable.
Xmas has a way of bringing out my inner curmudgeon so when everyone was quite confident last year that we'd be getting more Christmas Carol figures, I just couldn't understand how there could be enough of a market to support multiple action figures based on a Charles Dickens novella. I was like, "Who's next? Heathcliff? Miss Havisham?" But such is the unique marketability of Xmas.
I think it looks really cool. Seeing it makes me want a Kali figure really bad though. To go with the Hanuman. (I know different line; but really is it?) Also convinces me they really need to go head on into the Greek pantheon.
I think we're highly unlikely to get Kali as she's a major deity in an active religion with BILLIONS of members, but Hanuman seems fair game since he's more of a demigod and some scholars like to point out the parallels between Hanuman and Wukong, although that can be a slippery Campbellian slope all the way back to Enkidu. I'll bet the Horsemen would make a great Enkidu. Maybe in a two-pack with a brawny Gilgamesh so they can be wrestling bros!
Greek mythology certainly seems ripe with opportunities (they've already done Minotaurs) and doesn't have the same sensitivities that an active religion would. Sun Wukong and Athena Pallas are my deities of choice (the wisdom to channel my energetic monkey mind productively) so I would be obligated to buy an Athena figure to go with my Wukong.
Very elegant, beautiful figure. Underwhelming, though, especially with all the reuse. Is this just the Thraice head, modded three times? I would have liked at least a variant expression, like a speaking head, just something more expressive.
Not enough in the box to get me to pick her up, I think. Maybe the retailer version will be cooler. I do like that she could be a generic winter faerie queen, for people like me that aren't interesting in building out a Christmas Carol display. But it's also disappointing for people like me, because it looks like the next 3 drops will be Christmas Present, Christmas Yet to Come, and Scrooge... and we'll be waiting until 2028 for another winter holiday themed release, unless they double up. This could almost be its own sub-line.
I would love some fun Christmas Mythology figures... Jack Frost, a snowman, Santa's reindeer (a sled??), an elf two-pack, Nutcracker, Sugar Plum Fairy, Tin/Toy Soldier, Little Drummer Boy, Gingerbread Man... I could go on and on!
Well, more money for a dragon... 😎

I mean I see your point. Hinduism isn't shy about images of their gods, heroes and monsters though. They are quite into it. They are everywhere. I'm not sure how disrespectful it would be seen. I mean short of making action features and other silliness. If the image is respectful I'm not sure it matters much if the object is articulated or not. Mecha_Kali or Hydro attack Rama would certainly be disrespectful, but a classic representation like they did with Hanuman or the Egyptian gods doesn't seem against the grain of the vast majority of Hinduism. For example that tradition quite famously has a series of comics in the style of Silver Age Marvel comics about the lives and exploits of the gods which are beloved. But I certainly see your point.
There is a good deal of active worship centered on Hanuman too btw. Hinduism is a massive fabric. Devotion is a component of geography, ethnicity and personal preference. More so than some kind of canon status.
I would go deep on the Greek Pantheon, I would keep them classic with no anime swords or silliness like that. Would certainly be up for 10 or so primary Olympians, Medusa, the Minotaur, a harpy, a satyr, etc.
@hopethisworks I think the Horsemen are looking at this line to be around for a while. 3 more years of this theme will barley be a blip if it goes on for 25 years. Yeah, it’s not for everybody. I passed on Monkey King personally as I had no connection to the character but have picked up the rest. I think the line having that variety that doesn’t appeal to everyone every time is fine. Some beats will be hits and others not. A Christmas Carol has endured the test of time and still a tale told and retold every season so it’s a solid choice. My mother hates the story but it’s one of my favorites. I always like a good ghost story!
@buttmunch right, I know everything isn't for everyone—but this is 5 years total, 6 years since Santa dropped, until we break theme! Not knocking a Christmas Carol, I'd just personally be disappointed to pass for that long a period.
There is of course a chance that the other ghosts/Scrooge will be applicable to other setups, like a Ghost of Christmas Present that could also be a medieval Ogre-Wizard. Fingers crossed.
I find the elements of the Four Horsemen a bit clever.
The novel has specific references they tried to recreate. Multiple limbs and limited limbs are mentioned. The appearance of multiple ages reflected on its face at one time. The Ghost isn’t an angel. It’s a reminder. It’s unnerving. It is both fond memory and pain. I think they did alright.
Thwipp!

I tried posting three different times today and the posts kept disappearing. Each time I was going to say I bought it but was a bit underwhelmed. Like it felt off by around 10%. Couldn't put a finger on it. But the more the day progressed the more I have adjusted to really liking it. Sometimes it's hard to compete with your own imagination. Considering the elements of the book's description that are present, I think it's as good as any depiction when trying to include them in a realized and achievable figure.
They should’ve done the Ghosts of Christmas (Past, Present, and Future) as a 3-Pack. It would have provided an additional in-box display option (for those who like that sorta thing) and allowed them to move onto different Christmas characters moving forward.
They also could have potentially LOST a lot of sales with a sudden $200 or more set on a major shopping "event weekend" where people are usually looking for deals for gifts for other people.
@yolk @salemcrow
Both make good points. I don't think either one is more or less valid, and at some point I've agreed with both. Starting with Marley and then going with the Ghost of Christmas Past I think removes some of the question about who's up next year as they'll probably just go with the order in the story. I am excited for this one, and future ghosts.
